-Chapter Nineteen-

Van Helsing stared, "Who are you?", asked Van Helsing in the dark. His eyes darkened and he tensed as he heard the voice.

"I'm afraid that won't work on me", it said calmly almost with a hint of humor in it.

The voice responded to his question, "Reverend", she replied.

Van Helsing narrowed his eyes. Even with his enhanced sight he still couldn't see who it was. Why was that? This was not right. His hairs were prickling on the back of his neck and standing on edge.

"If you're Reverend then who is it that you work with?", asked Van Helsing testing the theory.

"Snyder, for now, normally I hunt alone", replied Reverend easily without care.

Van Helsing still wasn't convinced he was wary. He wagged the cross bow, "Why are the horses reacting this way? Something tells me I shouldn't trust you", he said.

Reverend smirked, Van Helsing could feel it. Reverend pushed up from against the tree and walked forward slowly only to lean again against the final tree now it full view illuminated by the moon light. Smirk plastered on her face with crossed arms.

"That's because it's only natural to not trust the highest in the food chain", said Reverend.

Van Helsing looked her up and down, "Your-",

"Alive?", tested Reverend. "Yes", she finished after a slight pause. She leaned the hatchet against the tree the dull blunt blade gleaming. It was cleaned.

"You left it", was all Reverend said.

Van Helsing stared not knowing what to say, he didn't drop the cross bow. Reverend just shrugged not really caring and looked at her nails examining them a bit bored about the dullness of his conversation.

"What kind of a vampire are you?", asked Van Helsing.

Reverend shrugged, "Just a vampire, I'm afraid I can't precisely answer your question", said Reverend with a sigh.

"How in the world are you just an ordinary vampire when you didn't get burnt up to smothering ashes!?", snapped Van Helsing.

Reverend raised her head, "Sunlight burns and catches fire, but it doesn't kill.....or it hasn't yet", replied Reverend.

Van Helsing grunted lowering the cross bow. He realized it was no use and despite his wolf instincts he was still man and could think for himself rather than let the animal take over.

"Well, you can go on back inside. I'll be out here", said Reverend waving him off.

Van Helsing raised his eyebrows, "If your a vampire who hunts other vampires then why is coming inside a problem?", asked Van Helsing.

Reverend sighed, "I don't like four walls", she replied dodging his question.

"Ah....More of a camper then", replied Van Helsing nodding.

"Would you like anything?", he asked awkwardly. He was being friendly. It was awkward asking a vampire if they wanted something. He had hunted them for over sixteen years and here he was now asking one if they wanted something.

Reverend shook her head, "Generous of you but no, I'm fine", she replied.

Van Helsing looked at her. She did look completely unharmed. Unfazed. It was as if nothing had ever happened. Friar would be all over this asking how and why. If he were here at least.

"Oh look what we found", laughed a voice.
