Chapter 3

Nicki's POV

Just as I got out of bed, I heard the door slam. Rose... Her angry outbursts had become an everyday occurrence, but it has never happened in such a short period of time. I quickly pulled on some adorable jeans and a flowy white short sleeve shirt. With a slight touch of makeup added, I walked out of my bedroom to a worried-looking father. Honestly, Rose never got hurt, and she was sixteen, she was fine! I grabbed a plate and brushed past my dad as if nothing was wrong. As I started to munch, however, he made a funny face at me.
"What?" I asked him innocently.
"You know that your sister is upset. Why don't you care? Atleast try to help a little!" He exclaimed, frustrated with me.
"Fine, fine. I'll try to talk some sense into her... What happened?"
"Just go out there and ask her yourself."
With a huff, I walked out into the cool morning and began my search. I sniffed the air for that foul smell of chlorine water. Her two favorite places to go were the beach, and the attic, but the latter could already be scratched off the list.
"The beach it is," I sighed. I hated the beach. It was so wet and sandy. "Rose!" I called out."Rose!" Then I saw her, curled up on a rock near the water. She seemed to be sulking, amd I couldn't understand why she would be mad on her birthday. I hated when there was a problem that I couldn't answer. "Hey, Rose." I said softly. I was pretty far away from her, but I knew that she could hear. "What's the matter?"
"Nothing! Nothing. Everything is just peachy." She started, with a twinge of sadness on her voice.
"Aww c'mon, I'm not stupid, what happened?" Rose immediately broke down into tears, and I knew that it was another one of her mood swings. That was two strong emotions in a short period of time, so I knew a vampire, or something of the sort, had to be involved, thus, mom was to be blamed. I went over to her and held her gently in my arms, even though it killed my dear nose, and surely hers as well. The feeling of my arms around her was enough. She gathered her act together, and told me about the call. I was overjoyed to hear that mom was finally talking to us again, but I knew how much Rose must have hurt. I'm usually not very good at reading people's emotions, but with my sister it was second nature. When we were both ready to face the day, we walked home to go hang with her friends. I would not get to see my friends until the first of September.
