~Chapter 3~

Screaming woke you from your sleep. You'd been asleep less than an hour and chaos was already breaking loose. You bounced to your legs and ran towards Frisk.

"Frisk!" You called. "Frisk say something!"

"(Y/N)! Help!"

You followed the voice. Frisk had wondered away far enough to meet the floating platforms that spanned the water mass of Waterfalls. He was running with the phone in hand, barely dodging the spears of greenish blue. Your legs carried you inhumanly fast.

"Undyne stop! Don't hurt him!" You yelled, gaze snapping towards the armored attacker.

She looked at you and snarled, soon turning it into a malicious grin. "Two souls means Alphys can have one for experimenting." She mused.

A spear appeared from below and you jumped. It cut deeply into your leg but the pain seemed numb as you ran towards Frisk. He was slowing down but the spears were still relentless. You closed the distance to about three feet when you saw blue glow beneath him.

"Frisk jump!" You screamed.

He looked down with wide eyes. You shoved him away from the light, putting you just above the arising spear. Even though you twisted enough to avoid a fatal blow, the spear left a deep gash on your cheek. Your recently replenished HP was now down to 2/20. The continued bleeding in your leg made it even worse.

Your gaze fixed in Undyne once again. Your voice came out more pleading than threatening as you spoke. "You can have my soul, but do NOT touch Frisk if you want to survive Undyne."

She froze when I said her name. "Ha! I'm guessing Papyrus told you about me?" He bragged.

You shook your head. "I just know how to get info."

Sans was still on the phone. You glanced at it to see Sans panicked expression. "Kid? Come on, hold on just a little longer. Someone will come help you..."

You grinned with bloody teeth. "False hope ain't gonna do anything for my HP Sans. Temporary hit points don't exist."

Frisk looked horrified by you bloody form. You looked after Frisk and motioned for the phone. He handed it to you and as you took it, you threw him into the air. A spear skewed, where he WAS, at an angle so it hit you square in the gut. Blood spilled over you lips and you put your attention back on Frisk.

"Go to Hotlands and find the lab. A dinosaur like monster lives there and she'll probably helped you. There a keycard in the pocket of my coat. Use it if the building won't allow you."

"(Y/N) you're hurt!" Frisk cried.

"Well you can't help me by staying and dying. Go!"

Frisk was shocked still a moment but soon turned and ran. Behind you Undyne had jumped on to the platform and was making her way towards Frisk. You grabbed her leg with a hand, the other cradling your puncture wound.

"Undyne stop!" You coughed, blood flecking the floating platform. "He's only eight."

She tried to shake off your arm. "So? It's you two that are keeping us from our dream."

"What's keeping you from your dream is one human soul. It looks like you already have a dying human on your hands, so don't even DARE go after Frisk."

Undyne laughed. "What are you going to do about it?" She asked.

You hadn't ever known her before the monsters came to the surface, it scares you seeing her so... Cold. You shook in both pain and terror. "I-I'll kill you. Tell me Undyne, how old is Monster Kid?"

She froze. "Leave the innocents out of this. You don't have any righ-"

"How old is he Undyne? Eight? Maybe nine? What if roles were reversed? What if the humans were the ones trying to kill to get out of the Underground? You'd be where I am, dying. Would you not plead with me to spare him? Tell me Undyne."

Her snarl softened and she fell on to her knees, lifting you by your arm so you were at eye level. "I'll spare the kid, but I won't protect him. Got it? Once you're dead, he's on his own."

You coughed blood, splattering her face in the red flecks. "Then I guess I'll have to avoid dying a bit longer." Memories of the people back in your dimension broke your heart. "Besides, I can't leave them alone. My family's waiting for me... I have to get back."

Undyne seemed confused by the words but I didn't have the strength to explain. Instead, names started spilling as fast as my blood.

"Frisk..."

"Papyrus..."

"Toriel..."

"Asgore..."

"Alphys..."

"Sans..."

"I'll make it back" *huff* "dead or alive..."

Dark consumed your vision. Worry for Frisk still lingered, but it was eased by Undyne's promise. Even though she had anger issues and was overly aggressive, she always kept her promises. Cold black consumed you with its warm hold.

"Gaster!Sans, I.... I couldn't do it... She was so.... So determined to protect the kid... To GET back somewhere. She listed all of our names and I can guarantee she hasn't met us all. And besides-...... It's dishonorable to kill someone when they're down."

The words had an echo that rocked your skull. It hurt to no end but you couldn't do anything to help it. Undyne's voice was prominent and painfully loud.

"Why didn't you just let them bleed out if you wanted their soul?"

"It.... It didn't feel right. When I can kill them in an actual fight, I'll finish them. The proper way. Besides, the kid'll need them. Maybe Asgore will want to get them himself anyway. I'll place a report..."

"Huh, you're getting soft Undyne."

"Ha! Haven't you already had three chances to get her?"

"First time they talked their way out. Second time they ran. Third time they had the kid on their hip."

"And the first two times you couldn't nail them?"

"..."

"Ha! And I'm going soft."

"Shut up Undyne. I'm gonna go get the kid from Alphys."

"Fine, I'll stay here."

"Nah, go home. Papyrus is here."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, Papyrus can handle them."

"Okay. She ya bonemeal!"

"Bye fish lips."

Then there was silence. From the conversations, you were able to deduct you hadn't died. But you still couldn't tell where you were. Feeling returned to your fingers and images started appearing in your vision. Your sight was returning slowly but as the images appeared, so did the pain of your wounds.

A groan vibrated in your throat as you panned your vision left to right. Your muscles were still too heavy with stinging pain so the most you could see was whatever reached within your peripheral vision and directly in front of you.  The sight didn't give you much explanation. A plain white ceiling, the edge of a couch on one side, rooms peaking the peripheral on the right.

Another painful groan racked your body and a tear peaked in your (E/C) eyes. Heavy footsteps followed a creaking door and you heart skipped.

"Who's that?" You rasped.

"Don't speak, human. You'll risk spitting up more blood." The voice was both familiar and foreign. It was too quiet, too calm.

"Papyrus? Is that you?" You asked.

"You heard me human. Reframe from speaking or risk more damage. Your HP is already dangerously low."

You closed mouth a felt a boney hand slip under your back and push lightly. "I'm going to help you sit up. I have some food that will help you replenish."

It was less him helping and more Papyrus lifting you into a sitting position. You felt dizzy and wobbly as you scanned your new perspective. The copy of Papyrus sat in front you, one gloved hand offering a plate of something.

You took the plate shakily and lifted a fork if it. The aroma was mouth-watering but previous experiences with Papyrus back home made you cautious.

"You can eat it. It's not poisoned or anything." The other Papyrus said.

You laughed dryly. "I know it's not. It's just weird eating your food without finding a surplus of glitter to make it glisten."

He raised a brow in curiosity. "I've never cooked for you, or any human to be exact."

"Not this version of you, but my Papyrus did..." Your voice faded as you took a bite of the food.

It tasted good with glitter. It wasn't spaghetti either. It was a cheesy pasta that you hadn't had before. You ate slowly so you wouldn't mess up anything internally. A cup of water sat on the table opposite to you.

Other Papyrus watched you eat in slight fascination. "See something you like?" You teased quietly.

He seemed to zone out, now snapping back to attention. "Sorry, I was... Thinking."

You nodded solemnly. It continued like that until a sharp snap broke the air.

"Get off of me!"

"Relax kid, I don't bite."

"(Y/N) told me not to trust you."

"Heh, that's common sense. But I actually got ya to take you to your friend (Y/N)."

"(Y/N)'s alive!"

Little footsteps preceded Frisk as he burst through a doorway to the right of you. He looked at you and his eyes lit up. "(Y/N)! You're okay!"

You shook your head and grinned weakly. "I wouldn't say okay but I'm breathing."

Frisk jumped towards you and wrapped his arms around your neck, careful not to touch your wounds. "Geez Frisk, don't choke me." You teased.

He giggled and plopped down into the seat next to yours. You offered him the plate you'd been picking off of but he just placed it to the side. A heavier set of footsteps drew your attention away from Frisk. Gaster!Sans walked in from the same room and smirked at you.

"Hey beautiful, looks like Papyrus got ya sitting up now."

"Shut it asshat. I don't wanna hear it from you right now."

"Geez, dove's got an attitude."

"I'm NOT your dove bone boy."

Frisk out his hand comfortingly on your knee and you ripped your eyes away from the skeletal jackass. It was funny to think that if you had met on different terms you might be friends.

"Sans, what did you do to make the human hate you so much?" Other Papyrus asked.

"(Y/N), not human." You interrupted.

"I apologize. What did you do to
(Y/N)?"

"I didn't do anything." Gaster!Sans said cooly.

"If you call attempted murder by Gaster Blaster nothing." You hissed.

"Come on, you dodged it."

"Barely! And you almost hit pooch-pile."

"Sans! Why did you attack (Y/N)?!"

"She was somewhere she wasn't supposed to be."

"You saw my clearance!"

"Except neither Alphys nor I remember authorizing it!"

You growled and threw your head back. "Frisk, can I have my phone?" You asked.

Frisk nodded and fished it from his pocket. Small cracks spanned the screen but not to an overly concerning point. You checked the missed calls and sighed. Sans had called you repeatedly with a few calls from Toriel, Frisk and Alphys in the mix. You sent a text to a group chat, explaining everything.

(Y/N): Hey guys, I'm sorry I couldn't respond. The Undyne here was in rage mode and I was preoccupied. But this Frisk is okay. Other Papyrus wrapped me up. Though I'm 90% sure this Undyne will kill me when I get back to fighting condition.
Sans: (Y/N)! I swear to god if your die over there I'll show all of them a BAD TIME!
Frisk: Shush Sans! Right it's only Gaster!Sans and other Undyne that have attacked her.
(Y/N): You filled them in completely?
Alphys: Of course! They were really worried. >.<
(Y/N): Thanks guys.
Toriel: We're looking for a solution as fast as we can.

You grinned at their reassurance and suddenly fell back into the conversation.

"(Y/N), is it your friends you're talking to? I can't help but notice how you smiled talking to them."

You nodded. "Well the only real friend I have over here is Frisk, and that's because Frisk is probably the most accepting person ever to exist."

Other Papyrus grinned. "Well, now you have two friends over here. I, Gaster!Papyrus will be your friend."

When the word 'Gaster' left his mouth, you furrowed your brow. "What is with that?! Does everyone's name start with Gaster here?"

"Nope. That's just us toots." Sans replied.

"I swear to good! Use my name or don't talk to me!" You yelled. The sudden outburst laced your gut with pain and you threw an arm around it.

"Why?" You said in a quieter tone. "Why do you have Gaster's name before your own?"

They seemed to be uncomfortable with the topic. Even Sans turned away oh-so slightly. "Ain't that a bit of a personal question?" He asked.

"I don't give a damn if it's personal. Back home Dr. Gaster is a personal friend of mine and I wanna know why you have his name!"

Papyrus looked at you in confusion. "Gaster is still alive in your world? With a physical form and everything?"

You shook your head. "He's not 100% alive, but he is enough so that I can speak with him. After monsters got out of the Underground and I came to work with Alphys, we made a way so that we could Gaster. Frisk had to find him for us but it was worth it. What happened here? Where's Gaster?! Maybe he can even help me outta here since he thrives in the void."

Sans walked towards me, his face dangerously close. The smell of smoke and leather filled my senses.

"Gaster isn't available for public speaking in those world. If you need to speak to him, you ask me or Papyrus."

"And why is that?"

"Sans," Papyrus interrupted. "Let me explain."

Gaster!Sans looked at his brother briefly and backed off. Papyrus repositioned himself in front of me. Frisk laid his head on your lap and your brushed his hair absentmindedly with your hand.

"(Y/N), when Sans and I were younger, we had Gaster around. As you probably know, Gaster was both our father and the king's royal scientist. When Sans and I grew old enough, Sans before me, we worked with our father. In one experiment, we were trying to create an artificial soul so that we could escape the underground. In an accident, each of our souls were exposed to an explosion. Gaster's being the closet, was immediately broken and propelled back. In the explosion, Gaster's soul blew into ours, Sans and mine. The conditions caused our souls to fuse, so despite his lack of body, he lives on within us."

You took a moment to process the information. "So you're telling me, that... Dr. Gaster... Is living within your bodies, like in your head?"

Papyrus nodded. You growled and balled your hands into fists. "That's fucking fantastic! Just swell!"

Frisk patted your leg. "That explains the differences in you too. I can't even call you by your names because they're too familiar to my home."

"Huh, so what are you gonna call us then?" Sans smirked.

You glared at him. "You, I'll keep calling Asshat. But you," you pointed to Papyrus, "I will call G Paps."

He laughed. "Good name (Y/N). So far I haven't heard that one."

You grinned. "I'm the naming one back home. Mostly because Alphys always ties her names back to anime."

"Wait, if you're gonna call me Asshat, why can't I call you by a nickname?" Asshat asked.

"Because my friends can use nicknames. And that would be (N/N). You however, are not my friend."

"Oh c'mon, can't shoot me down already."

"Sure I can, I just did." You retorted.

Frisk giggled before adding a loud 'OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO' to your statement. You laughed and patted Frisk happily. "Frisk, you're awesome."

"I know I am." He smiled.

Gaster!Sans sighed and headed towards the door. "I'm going to Grillby's. Call me if ya need me."

Papyrus nodded and turned back to me. "So (Y/N), you've heard my life story. Let's hear about yours."
