one?
"(y/n), I really don't care what you do, just go out. You're 18 years old, I don't give a damn what you do, but anything is better than staying cooped up in your bedroom watching those cartoons and listening to your strange music!" Your mom pushed you out of your apartment and closed the door behind you.
"But mom!" You banged on the door, groaning in defeat. A light bulb suddenly went off in your head. "But mom! I don't even have my wallet! Can I at least come in to get that?" You asked. You smirked as you heard the door unlock and you walked right into the door and your purse was dropped in your hands.
"Goodbye." Your mom said, slamming the door in your face once again.
"Mom!" You cried, but she ignored you. You let out a sigh and reached into your purse, pulling out the spare pair of headphones you always carried with you and plugged them into your phone.
You scrolled through your music library, looking for your favorite song from your favorite band. You put it on full blast, stepping out of your complex and into the stupid freezing cold of New York.
You're walking down the populated streets, occasionally throwing some dance moves you've practically memorized from your favorite song's music video. Some people looked at you like you were a weirdo or just simply ignore you and walked around you.
But you didn't give two shits because you knew for a matter of fact that they were the weird ones and you were the best (hooray for self-positivity).
As you continued walking, you noticed a shop that you've never seen before. But then again, who were you kidding, you never go out of the apartment apart from school, so.
The orange glow of the store allures you and your start walking towards it, looking at what it was.
"Got Books – Café, book store and lounge." You hummed, intrigued. When was the last time you picked up a book that wasn't school related?
You opened the door and the bell tinkled above you. The smell of ground coffee beans and old books filled your nose and the warmth welcomed you in. The store seemed relatively empty, even the checkout desk was left unoccupied.
You decide to browse the book store, going towards the section that contain your favorite genre of books. Your eyes skimmed the covers, until one of them got your attention. You picked it up, looking at the front and back cover.
"Ah, you like these?" A voice came from besides you and you jumped out of your skin almost, dropping the book.
"You scared the hell out of me!" You cried as the person next to you laughed. He had dark brown hair that looked fluffy enough to touch (but you don't do that because you're not a fucking creep) and an adorable ear to ear smile. His eyes were a heartwarming brown that stared into your soul whenever he was handing you the book your dropped.
"It's a really good book, one of my favorites." You took the book from his hands, your fingers brushing. "Sorry about scaring you."
"What are your favorites?" It slipped out of your lips and you couldn't stop yourself. Way to go (y/n).
"I like poetry a lot, actually." He looked towards the bookshelf, swiping a small bit of dust that was collect on a shelf. "But I'm a complete loser at it."
"I'm sure you're not all that bad." He laughed, looking down at his feet. "Come on."
"What?"
"Try me." He laughed, giving you a closed eyed smile that made your heart stutter.
"Uh, roses are red, violets are blue, you're not supposed to challenge me at poetry, so how about that coffee shop?" The two of you laughed.
"Okay, I'll have to admit, you swooned me and convinced me to some coffee." He motions you to go ahead and you actually do swoon because he's so gentleman-like? Prince-like? Keep your pants on, (y/n).
The two of you made it to the coffee shop within the book store and you ordered a latte. He ordered something else that was warm and he motioned you to follow him. You reluctantly did.
He led you to a warm corner where there were beanbags everywhere. He plopped down onto a beanbag and so did you.
"So what's your name? Do you work here?" You asked. He nodded.
"My name is Jinyoung. But you can call me Junior." You hummed.
"Interesting name."
"What about yours?"
"(Y/n)."
"Sounds like... A beautiful plant that the bees would swarm around." There was an awkward silence and the two of you burst out into laughter.
"You know, you're really bad at this." You say, wiping a tear from your eye.
"I know." He chuckled. "But just because you're bad at something doesn't mean you can't keep trying." That phrase made you think and you couldn't help the blush that was rising up your cheeks for any explicable reason. You were going to say something but the bell at the front door tinkled, signaling that someone had arrived.
Junior stood up and excused himself, you muttering a "sure, take your time" as you were left on your own. The warmth you had originally felt upon entering seemed to disappear along with Junior, smiling radiantly from the front of the store.
You decided, screw it, you're gonna go up there and act completely casual and get the warm of Junior back (hopefully).
You stand and you go towards the front, seeing Junior talking with a group of boys.
"Oh, (y/n), I'd like to introduce you to a couple of my friends. This is Mark, JB, Jackson, BamBam, Young Jae and Yugyeom." You blushed – Not only was Junior introducing you to his friends, but his friends were also super hot.
"H-Hello." So much for acting completely casual. They all gathered around you, bringing you into the conversation they were having.
"So any plans for tonight?" JB asked.
"After closing, I had no plans." Junior replied with a shrug. "Why?" The boys turned to look at you.
"(Y/n), we're going karaoke'ing tonight. Come with us." Mark suggested.
"You don't even know if she has anything planned for the rest of the night." Junior defended. All their eyes were on you and you were beginning to feel the heat rise to your cheeks.
"Well? Do you?" Mark asked.
"A-Ah, well... I..." You didn't have anything planned for the rest of the night. You were actually just gonna lay in bed and binge watch your favorite show again. "I don't, I just have to tell my mom that I'm going out with some friends." Some of the boys cheers and Junior remained silent, only smiling and making eye contact with you. You blushed, scrambling into your purse for your phone, calling your birth giver.
"I don't care what excuse you make, you're not coming back inside."
"Mom."
"What?"
"Is it okay if I go to a karaoke place with my friends?" There was such a long silence on the other end of the phone, you thought your mother had hung up on you.
"Yes, curfew is at midnight." And she hung up. You were so surprised, your mother wasn't usually so lenient on letting you out, but if she gave you until midnight, midnight it is.
"So, what's your choice Cinderella?"
"When the clock strikes 12, I have to go home."
"Holy shit, she really is Cinderella."
"So let the princess be. I'll meet you all at the karaoke place?" Junior said, motioning his head to the door. The boys nodded, looking at you.
"You coming Cinderella?" They asked.
"Um, I think I'll accompany Junior. You know, so he doesn't get mugged walking the streets of New York alone." You tell them, praying that they wouldn't notice the blush.
"Aw, come on." Mark tried to convince you, but one of the other guys elbowed him, sharing pointed glances at you and Junior.
"We'll meet you over at the karaoke place, Junior and (y/n)." JB called, exiting the book store with the other boys in tow.
"So you're going to protect me from muggers?" Junior teased, looking at you with gleaming eyes.
"I-I could!" You countered. He nodded, disbelieving. You just hoped he wouldn't guess that you have a newfound crush on him.
"I know what it is." Your heart almost dropped. "You just don't want me to go alone." You let out a small sigh of relief.
"Yeah... That's it." You mumbled. "When does the shop close?" You asked him.
"Thirty minutes."
"Ah." It was kind of awkward for the two of you to just stand there, so you went back to your favorite book section, picking out your favorite book and back to the beanbags Junior had taken you to.
You were so into your book that you didn't notice that the lights at the coffee shop turn off and the lights of the book store dimming. You continue reading until it was difficult to see, looking up with a tsk.
"So, do you want to go to the karaoke, or would you rather stay?" Junior asked standing against the shelf, seemingly watching you read.
"O-Oh, I'm sorry." You stammered as you got up.
"It's alright. But I was seriously asking. Do you want to go?" You hummed, looking down at your book. "You can borrow that if you want. Just don't lose it." Your eyes sparkled in the dark and you held the book to your chest. He smiled and the two of you went to the front.
He offered you your coat and you wiggled into it, smiling. "Thank you." He gave you a soft smile and you couldn't help but blush.
"Ladies first." He held the door open for you and you stepped out into the New York cold. Your breath fogged in front of you before another cloud of fog joined you.
"Ready?" You asked and he nodded, leading the way.
The karaoke place wasn't too big, but it had a handful of very nice employees and customers. The group that they were joining was loud and lively, but apparently were usual customers.
"Hey Cinderella!"
"(Y/n), you came!" You chuckled as they turned their attention to you.
"Well, I was invited so I couldn't decline." You replied. You continued small talk with the group of guys, some you haven't even seen before, until one of them wrapped their arm around your shoulder.
"Hey, you wanna drink?"
"Sorry, I can't drink." You declined politely.
"Aw, why not?"
"I'm not old enough to drink." The boy scoffed.
"It's okay, no one will know."
"U-Uh, I-I..." You started getting nervous as the boy started to pressure into drinking, handing you a cup with a strong smelling drink.
"She said she doesn't want to drink, don't force her to do something she doesn't want to do." Junior came from behind you and took the cup out of your hands and put it on a table. "You know what, I think it's better if I were to take you home." He said, putting his arm around your shoulder and ushering you out.
The two of you walked out, the cold seeming to bite at you stronger than it did before. You let out a shiver and a few seconds later, you felt a new warmth wrap around your neck.
"You can borrow my scarf." He spoke quietly. You blushed, thanking the dusk and scarf that hid your blush. It smelled a lot like the book store, the old dusty pages along with the coffee beans and something that was purely him. "I'm sorry about my friends. They're kind of pushy at times."
"It's alright." You managed to say. You were still rattled at the fact that they were trying to pressure you to drink, but Junior saved you.
"They didn't mean any harm, they're just trying to have fun." You admired how Junior tried to defend his friends, but also defended you in front of them. "How old are you, by the way?"
"I'm 18."
"You're a baby." He teased and you gasped, puffing up your cheeks.
"I am not! I bet you're an old man!" He laughed.
"I'm 21. Not that old that I could still be your boyfriend." He winked and you stammered for words, making him laugh more.
"Roses are red, violets are blue, even if you were the last boy on Earth, I still wouldn't date you." He laughed and he put his arm around your shoulder.
"Aw, c'mon (y/n), don't be like that."
The two of you kept throwing bad poems and puns at each other until you arrived at your house. It wasn't exactly midnight, but-
"I'm glad I got to meet you." The two of you stood in front of your apartment door.
"You're making it seem like I'm never going to see you again." You said, confused. He shrugged.
"I usually get forgotten about." Your non-existent heartstrings were tugged.
"Well, it's okay. I've got no life and I'll be able to visit you often." Wow... "Besides, that means we will be able to hang out." Today would be the perfect day to throw yourself out the window. Flirting with such a handsome guy, surely he was bound to be frightened way.
"That would be nice." He smiled, to your surprise. "So, I'll see you again soon, (y/n)?" You nodded.
"Of course! I'll see you tomorrow." There was an awkward silence between the two of you as you stood before the door, waiting for something to happen.
"Good night." He smiled.
"God night, Junior." You smiled back.
The next day, you rushed home after school and began rushing out when your mother stopped you.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, where do you think you're going?" She asked. You glanced at the door, before looking back at her.
"Out?"
"With?"
"A friend? I'm doing my homework with them." She stared at you for a couple more silent deadly seconds, so long that you thought she was going to say no.
"It's about time."
"Hey!"
"Be gone child." With her dismissal, you bolted out the door, down the stairs and into the soon to be snowy streets of New York. School was let out early, due to the weather forecast of the upcoming snow. Even then, that wouldn't stop you from visiting the book store.
You were in front of the bookstore and the door opened just as you were about to push, making you fall in, but someone caught you.
"Hey, it's Cindy!"
"Cinderella!" Your heart kind of sinks to your stomach because you don't know what you felt about some of these dangerously handsome looking boys.
"We wanna apologize regarding what happened last night. A couple of the group members were already buzzed and none of us knew that you weren't of age. Junior told us earlier today."
"You were talking about me?" You asked, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Yeah, he was just talking about how much of a pain you were and how he wished he never saw you again."
"Oh haha, my feelings are hurt." You said, putting your hand to your chest in mock pain. They all shared laughs then said their goodbyes, some having to go home and others going to work. You told Junior you were going to go to the beanbags to do some homework, so it didn't seem like you were that desperate to see him.
After several sips of your warm latte and a couple questions of your homework, you felt someone's eyes on you. Even though your music was loud, you were still very in tune with your surroundings. "You're creeping me out, stop." You called out, lowering your music. You heard a soft chuckle and Junior came out from in between the bookshelves.
"How did you know?"
"Sixth sense." He chuckled and you smiled, looking down at your homework. It was your most hated subject and you had been spacing out in class today too.
"Need help?" He asked as he picked up a beanbag and plopped down next to you.
"You know this?" You asked.
"My favorite subject actually." He flashed you a smile and began to miraculously explain to you. You couldn't help but admire him as he explained your homework to you, almost zoning out, until he looked at you. "Got it?"
"W-What, oh, yeah!" Pull yourself together, oh my god. He gave you a smile and you noticed how his cheeks rose, squinting his eyes slightly.
You had to admit, he was cute. Or handsome. Either way, you were swooned. It was hard to focus when you had such a cute tutor. He helped you with almost all your homework, until the last couple of questions. You quickly learned that if you answered a question correctly, he would reward you with a smile that would make your heart melt.
"It's starting to snow harder." He mumbled, looking towards the front of the store. "You should probably start heading home before the snow traps you in."
You packed your things and you were putting your jacket on when you remembered his scarf.
"Junior, your scarf-"
"Keep it. You need it more than I do." He took the scarf from your hands and wrapped it snuggly around your neck. "I wrote some extra problems at the end of your homework, be sure to look over them, okay?" You nodded with a blush.
"Okay. You should close up shop too. Don't get trapped in by the snow."
"(Y/n), don't worry about me. Go home, look over the questions. I'll be fine." He ruffles your hair gently and sends you on your way.
You got home, welcomed by the sounds of your mother watching her favorite show. Knowing she wouldn't notice that you were home until after her show was over, you went to your room silently, tossing your bag onto the bed.
You were inclined to pick up your laptop and watch your favorite show, but something made you pick up your backpack and look into your homework. You did a couple of questions and you grew tired, not to mention bored, fanning through the next couple pages, until you found a note.
"(Y/n), if you gotten this far, you've either made me proud or disappointed me. Let me know." A ten digit number was listed, followed by a smile and a signature.
So before you got in trouble by the neighbors below, above, next door and your mother, you shoved your face into a pillow and screamed. You rolled and rolled for some time, so much, you fell of your bed. That noise was enough to have your mom come into the room with a tsk.
"What's wrong? Are you dying?"
"Mom, it's-"
"If you're not dying, I don't wanna hear it." After a couple seconds of silence, your mother gave a nod and left you alone to your weirdness.
You were quick to grab your phone, carefully putting the number into a new contact and saving it. What were you going to say? Probably embarrass yourself because that's what you're best at. Okay, keep calm, keep calm and send a cool text. Cool.
"I'm a disappointment." Sent. Wow. Way to go, you did so well. Out of embarrassment and excitement, you toss your phone to the end of the bed, not necessarily expecting a reply any time soon.
Just like the trash you are, you get caught into your favorite show, disregarding your show for a couple hours. It wasn't until you noticed your phone's notification light blinking that you realized you had a message. You hopped onto your bed and rolled, swiftly unlocking your phone.
"Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Honestly,
I expected it out of you." Received. You couldn't help the stupid laugh that past your lips.
"Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Be honest,
You think you're slick, don't you?" Sent. You locked your phone, not expecting a reply soon, but the vibration startled you.
"Yes." Received. You smirked but your expression softened.
"Did you get home safely?" Sent.
"No, I got stuck at the bookstore."
"WHAT?" Sent.
"Take of your boots and coat, I'm kidding." You stared at your phone longer, unsure on whether to believe him or not. "I'm home, don't worry."
"SIGH. Good. You had me worried." You began to take your boots off, tossing them to the side.
"You really were getting dressed, weren't you?"
"Yeah, so what?"
"You realize what time it is?"
"Oh shit." ... "It's 1 am."
"You should really be asleep."
"That sounds like a good idea actually, I might take you up on that." There was a few moments of silence and you decided to get ready for bed. Once you got settled into bed, you noticed you had a new message.
"Good night (y/n)." The message brought a smile to your face.
"Good night Junior."
