Infiltration

Everyone was assembled in the main room in three minutes flat, ready to discuss business. Mirage had spread out blue prints of Necron's headquarters out on the table.

"We've established that Bastian is being held on sub level 7 in cell 343." Said Mirage.

"Which is here." He circled a spot on the map with a pencil.

"The sub levels are only accessible to guards bringing in prisoners. The elevators are guarded, ID is necessary." Said Mirage.

"But there's a ventilation system." Said Oracle, looking at the map.

"Here. You can access it from outside."

She took the pencil from Mirage and circled a spot on the west side of building.

"From there you can climb through the shafts and get into the room contains cells 330 through 350." She said.

"The ceilings are thick metal, they won't be able to hear you in the vents, but still stay quite. Don't go until night has fallen, there aren't as many Bounty Hunters around the place to see or hear you." Said Oracle, handing the pencil back to Mirage, who looked at her with a slightly shocked expression.

"Well, it looks like we have our plan." Said Moonshine.

"How many of us are going?" Asked Thorne.

Mirage turned to his team, looking at each of them.

"Thorne, I need you to carry the equipment to break Bastian out. Moonshine and Oracle, I need you to stand guard. Desertfox I need you to guard the outdoor access point. Phoenix, you're the smallest one of us, so I need you as well."

Phoenix crossed her arms at being called small, but didn't reply.

"The rest of you, watch the base. Necron could decide to attack at any moment. They know where we are now."

He shot a quick glance at Oracle before turning away from the group of Rogues.

"I want to be ready to leave in ten minutes time."

With those words Mirage walked out of the room and back out into the rain, leaving the others to get ready. Oracle followed Mirage.

"Am I allowed to get my sniper and assault rifle out of my ship?" She asked.

"It won't take me long."

"Yes, but go quickly." He said.

Oracle nodded and ran to where her ship was still in stealth mode, her feet splashing through the puddles that had formed on the rough asphalt road.

When she got to her ship she quickly retrieved her assault rifle and sniper, carrying the rifle and slinging the sniper over her shoulder.

When she got back to the room where she had first found Mirage everyone was there, ready to go.

"Is that a Nightstalker Sniper Rifle?" Asked Desertfox, walking over to Oracle.

He reached out to touch the weapon and Oracle caught him by the wrist, holding him in a tight grip.

"Yes, it is, and it's mine. Don't touch it." She growled, letting Desertfox go.

The other Bounty Hunter put his hands up in mock surrender, walking away from her. From out of the corner of her eye she saw Mirage smirking slightly.

"He's always wanted one of those." Said Moonshine.

"It's been something he's been working for."

Oracle turned towards where Desertfox was still looking at the sniper.

"I would give you one if I had another one, but this is only one I have, and it's... special." Said Oracle.

Desertfox nodded.

"I know. My sniper is also special to me." He said.

"It's a Starseeker model, so it's only a little older then yours, reliable, though not quite as accurate."

"Alright, we need to head out." Said Mirage, pushing off the wall.

"It's getting close to complete darkness."

They all nodded and followed Mirage out to where six speeders waited. They each settled onto one of the sleek black vehicles and powered them up, the low humming of the vehicles filling the air.

"Come back." Said a voice from behind them.

It was Coyote.

"We need you. All of you."

"We will." Promised Mirage.

Then the six of them disappeared into the night, everyone following behind Mirage. With his helmet obscuring his face Mirage looked... different. He looked more serious, more intimidating. The fact that you couldn't see his eyes or facial expressions made him unpredictable.

Oracle wondered if that's how she looked to people. If she looked intimidating with her helmet on and her face hidden. She wondered if people wondered if she was after anyone and that's why rooms fell silent when she walked in.

If people wondered if they were the ones on her list, if they wondered what she would do next.

Oracle looked up at the lightning-lit sky, rain flying past her in streaks, the cool wind blowing around her.

I'm part of a team now. She thought, looking at Mirage, then to where Phoenix rode alongside her, eyes forward, face determined.

Desertfox was to behind Oracle to her right and Thorne was behind Phoenix to her left. Moonshine brought up the rear.

Is that how they see all of us? She thought.

Unpredictable, dangerous, and intimidating?

She sighed, looking up at the towering skyscrapers that surrounded them. They were getting close to Necron's headquarters. She needed to be focused and ready to do her part.

Mirage dropped back so he was next to Oracle.

"I need you to switch your COM to a channel called Nightfarer." He said.

"The channel password is Rogueshadow." He said.

Oracle nodded, bring up the channel on her Heads-Up Display. A keyboard came up and she typed in the password with her eyes, the technology in her helmet tracking what letters she looked at.

Once that was done she told Mirage.

"Can you hear me?" He asked, his voice coming through loud and clear.

"Yeah." Answered Oracle.

"Good. This is how we will communicate with one another." Mirage said, pulling up in front of the team again.

"Alright, drop your speeders here."

Mirage pulled off into an alleyway filled with old boxes and dumpsters. The team of six made the parking job look intentional, so no one would question why they were here.

They probably would anyway, but this way it wouldn't look as conspicuous.

"The vent entrance is on the West side of the building." Said Mirage.

A blue navigational marker appeared the vent was located.

"We get in, find Bastian and get out. No side business, stay out of the way of any guards or other Bounty Hunters. With luck they won't know he's gone until tomorrow morning." Said Mirage.

"Copied." They all said in unison.

"Alright, Thorne and Phoenix, go. When you get there, Thorne open the vent." Said Mirage.

Oracle watched as Thorne and Phoenix quickly crossed over to where the vent was, dashing across the open space, staying in the shadow.

"Opening vent now." Said Thorne.

"Moonshine, Oracle, you go next."

Oracle nodded, getting into a crouching position, and seeing Mirage nod sprinted across the gap, staying in the shadows.

Her black armor blended in perfectly, rendering her invisible to anyone watching from windows or from the building.

They made it safely to the building and found the vent cover safely hidden behind a bush. They all watched as Mirage and Desertfox crossed next and came up to them.

"Oracle, go first, then Thorne, then Moonshine then Phoenix and Moonshine. I'll bring up the rear." He said.

Oracle nodded, laying on her stomach and crawling into the vent. The metal was smooth under hands as she crawled through the vent. Once she was far enough inside she got on her hands and knees, a much more comfortable position.

Oracle felt like she had been crawling for hours when she finally came across the gap. The vent dropped down to the lower level of the building, and you could easily slide down the sides and make it down safely and quietly.

Oracle oriented herself so that she could brace her arms and legs against the walls of the vent and then slid down the smooth metal. She slowed her descent when she neared the bottom and then dropped to e metal lightly.

"You can go Thorne." She told him.
She crawled forward and heard Thorne drop in behind her.

The team repeated this process a couple of times before they reached sub level seven. Oracle checked the marking on the vent. It said Sub 7, so she was at the right floor.

Now she could begin the search for the cell number.

Oracle looked through every vent covering she passed, glancing at the numbers painted on the hallway floors.

There's 280-300... 301-320... there it is, 321-350.

"I found it." Said Oracle.

"Good, I'll take it from here." She heard Thorne say.

Oracle crawled forward to let Thorne get through to the vent and heard him begin to take the bolts off one by one. When the vent cover was off he slid it forwards to Oracle and she slid it in front of her so it was out of the way.

Thorne then went through the gap, dropping to the ground and quickly scanning for guards.

"Clear." He said over the COM channel.

Oracle went next, her heart ponding in her ears. She dropped to the floor and stood, going over to stand by Thorne. She looked around at the cells.

Each one and a metal door with no way to see out of it. She guessed that there was a bed, a small toilet and sink and that was it. After all, these people were prisoners.

"Alright, which way?" Asked Mirage, turning to her.

"This way," she said, turning to the left. She walked down the concrete hallway, looking at each of the numbers painted on the doors.

The lights in the ceiling flickered and the sound of their footsteps echoed off the walls.

"Here." Said Oracle, stopping in front of cell 343.

"Thorne?"

Thorne nodded and set to work on the lock, getting it open quickly. Mirage shoved the door open and walked in.

It was strangely silent. Oracle walked in behind him and saw... nothing. The cell was empty.

Bastian wasn't there.
