BrackenPaw woke up from his nightmare in cold sweat fretting about his family was ok. He sat up in the apprentice den. There were fifteen apprentices including him. He was glad to see the golden and tabby pelts of his brothers and sisters. Then IcicleEye WitheredRose and ViperTeeth Called for him SilverPaw and RedPaw to get up because they were going on a border patrol. BrackenPaw went and got up His friend other then His brother and sisters SilverPaw and RedPaw.  They joined the Warriors as they were going to check the border along Fire Clan territory. The forest broke away and they were walking along a wall like line of boulders. Then some wattle bushes appeared as they grew in red dust they walked along the edge of them. BrackenPaw noticed that there were some thistles there that had never been there before he went to tell the other when twelve Fire clan cats jumped out of the thistles. Suddenly all BrackenPaw's training flew out of his brain and he immediately attacked claws unsheathed. He realised that there were the two apprentices he saw at the gathering.  He hissed at them and lunged at them away from the gray warrior he was fighting. He slashed across the gingers eye and grey cat with white stripes. Out of no where a golden canon hit him and he fell straggling on the ground. He feebly tried to bat away the golden warrior the golden warrior was just preparing to give the final blow. When RedPaw started scratching at his flank. BrackenPaw wriggled away and began limping he looked at his back leg soaked in blood and yowled in pain. He went over to help RedPaw but was to late the fire apprentice lay broken on the ground. He heard the call of IcicleEye witch rang out loud and clear "Retreat!". BrackenPaw backed away into the bushes he was glad to see SilverPaw was not lying there broken on the battlefield like RedPaw. He saw that they had cut away four of the fire clan cats. The fire clan cats retreated into the bushes leaving those who could not follow behind. He saw they had left three alive healthy injured cats behind including the golden warrior.  BrackenPaw whispered into SilverPaw's ear "there is no way we could have taken down or injured that many cats". SilverPaw twitched her ear "your right" she whispered back then she hissed "who was helping us then".  ViperTeeth interrupted "we are going back to camp to notify WhaleStar of this". BrackenPaw thought quickly "actually BlazePaw asked us to get some mint while we were on border patrol". SilverPaw nodded and went along with BrackenPaw's story. ViperTeeth snarled "fine be careful we don't want to lose anymore cats".
