Chapter 30

Chapter 30

After my little stunt of almost breaking Danielle's arm, Wesley had been keeping an extra eye on me whenever I trained with her or Kenneth. He knew about what happened between us, so he didn't completely blame me for it.

I did go a little overboard with that though, even I had to admit it. I wasn't exactly in the right state of mind at the moment, and their appearance didn't help with my anger at all.

The next day while training, I was a bit more relaxed. Almost breaking Danielle's arm helped me relieve some of that anger I had toward them. That didn't mean I was over what they did, because I was certainly not. Danielle's excuse for what she did was irrational, which made me angrier at her. Luckily, I haven't lashed out at her, or Kenneth, in such a harsh way again.

I made my way to my current motel room and fished the key out of my pocket. I unlocked the door, and it opened with a small creaking sound, making me frown a bit. Brushing it off, I switched the lights on, then closed the door behind me quietly. I went to shrug my jacket off and hang it on the coat rack when something rectangular and white caught my attention. I furrowed my brows and crouched down, slowly grabbing the envelope from the floor.

The envelope had nothing on the front, no scribbles, nothing. I narrowed my eyes at it and opened the envelope quickly, snatching out the folded piece of paper inside. I unfolded it and sat down on my bed, looking at the words printed in the middle of the sheet.

Everywhere you go, I will follow. I'm like a shadow, visible in the daylight yet invisible in the darkness. You cannot escape from me, for I follow your every movement. I know where you go and what you do. You should be careful with who you trust. Even much more careful in who you fall in love with. I will see you very soon, Clark. Watch out.

P.S. It's a shame your mother made it out alive. I guess I'll spare her life this time.

-E. C.

There it was again, the unknown person who killed my stepfather and almost killed my mother.

I crumbled the piece of paper in my hands and threw it at the wall in frustration. I grasped my hair between my fingers and took a deep breath. Whoever this person was, they knew where I was staying at the moment, and that alone gave me goosebumps. I stared at the now crumpled piece of paper on the ground and sat down, my mind running over the possibilities of who that person might be.

The possibilities were slowly shrinking down until only one person remained. It couldn't be, though. It didn't coincide with the initials on the paper...yet again, if that person meant any harm, they would most likely go undercover.

I punched the wall instinctively out of frustration and ignored the pain of protest that shot through my hand. I sighed heavily and grabbed the paper from the floor, then threw it on the nightstand beside my bed. Quickly grabbing my duffel bag, I stuffed my things inside, preparing to leave tomorrow. This time I would make damn sure that nobody knew about my location.

Nobody at all.

I pinned Wesley to the floor and held him as best as I could. It was not easy for a girl like me to hold down a buff, six-foot-tall man. The fact that he was in his mid-thirties didn't quite help me at all. He struggled against my hold, but I didn't dare falter. I asked him last night to train alone with me before anybody else got here to train as well. It required me to skip school, and who was I to deny such an offer.

Wesley managed to get out of my hold and pushed me back. I stumbled, but luckily didn't fall, and received a punch to my side instead. I groaned and held my side for a moment before leaping at him. He prepared himself to receive the tackle, but I quickly read his movements and smirked a little. Instead of tackling him, I jumped and kicked his chest, following it with a right hook and an uppercut. He managed to block the right hook, but wasn't fast enough to block the uppercut as my fist connected with his jaw.

That was the major advantage of fighting against a buff guy. They might be strong, but they were certainly not fast. That alone assured a victory for me. Speed always won against strength.

He was about to move, but I grabbed a handgun from my waistband and instantly pulled the trigger.

"You're dead. I win," I said, and Wesley chuckled.

"I'm lucky that we're training with unloaded guns," he commented.

I grinned at him innocently and put the gun back in my waistband. It was only a matter of minutes until the others arrived, so I had to drop the façade. I was running out of time.

I glanced over at Wesley as he was taking a gulp out of his water bottle. I flicked my butterfly knife open and quickly charged at him from the back. He heard my footsteps and turned around to face me, and I took the chance to press the blade against his throat.

"Lily? What the hell are you doing?" he asked, and I only pressed the knife deeper, close enough to cut his skin. He winced a little and stared at me wide-eyed.

I quickly pulled the crumbled piece of paper out of my pocket and shoved it in his face. "Mind explaining this?" I asked through gritted teeth and he furrowed his brows in confusion.

"What the hell are you talking about, Amelia?"

"Don't play dumb with me, Wesley. You're the only one who knew where I was staying at and you're the only one I tell everything to nowadays," I said with a glare.

He gave me a bewildered look and narrowed his eyes at me. "You think I would write something like that? Those aren't even my initials, to begin with," he exclaimed.

"Why would you put your actual initials if you wanted to stay unknown?" I asked rhetorically.

"You seriously believe it was me, Amelia? Just why the hell would I ever do that?"

"You have many reasons to do something like this. To almost kill my mother to get to me!" I yelled in his face.

He glared down at me, and before I knew it, he grabbed my wrist and smacked it against his knee making me lose my grip on the knife. The butterfly knife fell to the ground, and Wesley pinned me against the wall forcefully. I was about to kick the butterfly knife away, but he was quick to grab it instead. He blocked any way I had out and pulled my head back by my hair.

I bit my lip to refrain myself from groaning in pain as he pressed the knife against my throat.

"Trust me, Amelia. If I ever wanted to kill you, I would've done so in the blink of an eye," he whispered angrily in my ear while I struggled against his grip.

"So why haven't you?" I challenged.

"Because I am not the one behind that letter. Get that idea out of your head," he growled in my ear and I bit the inside of my cheek. He was right. Knowing him, he would've slashed my throat the moment he grabbed that butterfly knife.

"Well, isn't this a compromising position?" A voice asked from the other side of the room, and both Wesley and I turned our heads to the person.

Bad decision.

The blade cut through my skin and I yelped in surprise, feeling the familiar stinging of a wound. Wesley immediately let go of me and threw the knife away, staring at me in concern.

"Amelia!" Chase gasped in shock, and I pressed a hand against the open cut. It stung when my fingers made contact with it and I groaned in annoyance. Lucky for me, it wasn't a deep wound, so it wasn't anything severe. Chase was by my side in an instant, a first-aid kit in hand and worried eyes casted upon me. Where the hell did he get a first-aid kit so fast?

"Oh my God!" Danielle gasped, and Chase instantly treated my wound.

Wesley was frowning down at me and I sighed, looking away from him.

Once Chase took care of my wound, I stood up and looked at Kenneth. "Thanks for the sexual comment," I retorted sarcastically, and he scratched his head in guilt. I shook my head and muttered a thanks to Chase.

He hadn't questioned my actions lately, and I found that quite suspicious. If anything, he would be bombarding me with a million questions.

"You were lucky it wasn't deep. If it was, it would've been pretty severe," Chase pointed out, and I nodded once then walked to the middle of the room.

"Gather up," I ordered, and everyone did so. I went over to the table where the knives laid on top and put them all away carefully. Everyone took a chair from a corner of the room and sat around the table as I crossed my arms over my chest.

"You shouldn't move your head much, wouldn't want to make it worse," Kenneth warned, and I rolled my eyes at him.

"Thanks for stating the obvious, genius," I deadpanned, and he stuck his tongue out at me.

"What do you want to talk about, Amelia?" Chase asked in curiosity.

"Someone slid this under my room door yesterday," I started, throwing the piece of paper on top of the table. "Whoever this person is, they know where I'm staying. Which means that we're being watched, if not only me."

"Isn't that the same person that left the message when we found your mother?" Chase asked with solemn eyes, and I nodded grimly.

"That would be correct. The only person that knew where I was currently staying at was Wesley. That's why you walked in on us in a 'compromising position'," I said, and gave Kenneth an annoyed look then pointed at my treated wound. "He made it very clear that it wasn't him."

"What do you suggest then?" Danielle asked.

"I have a plan in mind, but it's not at all safe. We will need as many people as we can get," I started.

"What is this plan of yours?" Kenneth asked.

"First of all, Wesley, we will need your men for this. It's a matter of time until this unknown person gets bored of the letters and starts with the private calls and sudden visits. Lindsey will be of much help with tracking this person down."

"Lindsey?" Chase asked.

"Yes. She is an old friend and was a partner of Wesley when he was still working for the CIA," I said, and Chase's eyes snapped towards Wesley in awe.

"You worked for the CIA?" Chase asked in bewilderment, and Wesley smirked smugly.

"Didn't see that coming, did you?" Wesley asked him, and Danielle chuckled at Chase's expression.

"That's a story for another day," I interrupted, and they all turned their attention back to me.

"Alright, spill it already," Danielle said.

"So, this is what I have in mind..." I started, and proceeded to fill them in with the details.

I could only hope for this to go well.

What could this plan of Amelia's be about? Also, Wesley being part of the CIA? Damn...that's quite something to take in. I hope that you all enjoyed this chapter! Feel free to vote and comment xx
