Chapter 44
Chapter 44
Sirens were heard from the distance, making me step back and look at Wesley in panic.
He grabbed Lindsey by the wrist and muttered something I couldn't quite hear. I saw how she nodded in understanding and rushed to Chase and me. "Hurry, get inside the car with the rest of the members. They will take you to their hideout. Wesley and I will take care of the police," she instructed us, and we nodded.
Two guys motioned for us to get inside one of the cars and we complied, quickly jumping into the backseats. Blue lights could be seen getting closer by the minute, and the car rushed out of the place through another exit.
I glanced out the window as we sped off and watched how some other men threw my unconscious mother inside the same car Steven was in. I visibly grimaced and shook my head in sadness and disappointment. I turned to Chase to find him already looking at me with sad eyes. When I frowned at him, he only placed his good arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer. My heart warmed at the gesture as I nuzzled my nose on the crook of his neck tiredly.
He tensed slightly under me but relaxed a second after, tightening his hold on me. Someone cleared their throat awkwardly in front of us and I moved my head to glance to the front. The man driving was blushing slightly, and I smirked.
Who would have thought that a buff man in a dangerous gang would blush because of a teenage couple?
"I'm sorry, Boss. We're going to arrive at the destination you ordered me to take you to," he spoke in a deep voice. I couldn't help the bark of laughter that escaped my mouth at his formality. He blushed even more as I kept on laughing, and Chase let out a small chuckle from beside me.
"Such formality, damn. Cut the crap, there's no need for such a thing. Plus, calling me Boss makes me feel way too old. Call me Amelia, it's much better," I said with a smirk.
He opened and closed his mouth for a second then just nodded. A minute later, we arrived in front of a huge gate that belonged to a mansion in the outskirts of town. Four men stood in front of the gate, wearing black attire and holding an M-15. I nodded in approval at their choice of weapon as one of them neared the driver's side.
"Hey man, Steven lost the bet. Seems like we've got a new boss now," the man behind the steering wheel said and pointed to me. The one with the gun glanced at me and I shot him a smirk, raising an eyebrow challengingly.
He held my stare for a moment and stepped back, motioning for the other men to open the gates. Soon enough, the huge gates opened and the driver advanced forward inside the property. Chase let out a low whistle at our surroundings. I would've too if I wasn't worried about more important things. I couldn't deny that it was a very beautiful building. With its tall brick walls and well-maintained rose garden, who wouldn't love living here?
Me, of course. I hated roses. I know; I'm such a paradox person.
"Welcome to your new home, Amelia," the driver said just as a woman opened the door for me. I eyed her warily and stepped out while the two other cars parked beside the one I just got out of. People gathered around and I felt Chase's presence behind me. Three men hoisted Steven out of the car he was in, along with my still knocked-out mother.
He growled at the men holding him while they glared at him. Everyone turned to me expectantly, as if waiting for my orders. My mouth felt dry as I looked at every single person around me. There were around fifty people or more, to say the least. Steven smirked as he took in my reaction to the many people I haven't seen before.
I recognized some of the faces, but just barely. I pursed my lips in a thin line and straightened my back, taking a step forward. "Place this man in a room and guard it properly. From this moment onwards, I have been declared your boss. I suggest you do not defy me. Even though I am just an eighteen-year-old girl, I can kick your ass. Don't test me," I warned.
Chase chuckled behind me and I rolled my eyes before joining him. "Seriously?" he mused.
"Nah, not really. You're all fine with me as long as you don't challenge me or try to kill me. I wasn't kidding about the kicking-your-ass thing," I clarified. People exchanged curious glances and I rolled my eyes. "Alright, the part about putting this man in a room and me being your new boss wasn't a joke. Get moving."
The men quickly went into action and pulled Steven inside the building. I walked toward the man holding my mother and frowned a bit. I guess I tend to do that a lot around her lately. "What should I do with her, bo—"
"Amelia," I corrected.
"Right, Amelia." He cleared his throat. "What do you want me to do with her?"
"Put her to bed," I said and caressed her cheek. "Have someone check her wounds and any other injury she may have. Don't let her leave the room once she wakes up. Treat her nicely and feed her well. I'll decide what to do with her later."
He nodded and carried her off inside the building after Steven. I sighed and turned to the man who drove us here. "What's your name?"
"Victor," he answered.
"Great. Victor, you will be my third in command from now on. You will also be my guide around this huge place. It's not the same as last time, so I certainly don't know where everything is."
"Wait, if he is your third in command, who is your second?" Chase asked.
"You, of course." I smiled. Before he could say anything, I continued, "Now, Victor, take me to the meeting room. Tell everyone to gather there in twenty minutes."
"Yes. Amelia. Follow me," Victor said.
I grabbed Chase's hand and pulled him with me, almost chuckling at his bewildered face. Victor showed us the basics of the house and proceeded down a corridor. An all-too-familiar one, to say the least. That was when it clicked. This was the same house I was taken to when I got kidnapped. I never noticed how big it actually was. I guess that was what being kidnapped did to you.
We stopped in front of some double doors and Victor opened them to let us in. The room was huge, with at least four tables that fit twenty people and a desk at the very back with a very comfortable-looking chair behind it. I let out a low whistle and walked toward the desk with Chase trailing behind me.
"Please spread the message around, you may leave us alone," I said to Victor and he nodded, before stepping out of the room and closing the door behind him. I turned around and leaned against the desk, looking at Chase. "What did Lindsey tell you about the wound?"
"Um, it's nothing to worry about. She only told me that I should get a sling as soon as possible to avoid moving my arm around too much. It might reopen the wound," he explained softly.
I gave him a slight nod and caressed his cheek softly, afraid to cause him any more pain. "I'll get you that sling as soon as everyone gets here," I said. "You will be alright. Everything will be alright. We're almost at the end of this nightmare, I promise."
"I know," he mumbled and smiled a little. "I believe you will bring an end to all of this."
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and gave him a soft kiss on the lips. He immediately responded, and I closed my eyes to savor the moment. After a minute or so, a vibration in my back pocket distracted me and I broke the kiss. I furrowed my brows and fished the phone from my pocket to find a text pop up on my lock screen.
"What is it?" Chase asked.
"It's from Lindsey. She said that we've got the police off our backs for the time being. I'll send her our location, so she and Wesley can come here," I said. I gave the time a quick glance and noticed it was almost one in the morning. I sighed and sent Lindsey the location of the mansion since she probably didn't remember how to get here.
I saw Chase sit down behind the desk and motioned for me to sit on his lap. I smiled a bit and chuckled before doing so.
In about five minutes, people started pooling into the room. They started filling the tables one by one until there were about five chairs unoccupied. Most of them gave me curious stares, while a few of them were glares.
Eyeing the room one last time, I began, "You all must be aware of the slight changes that have been made. For those of you who still don't know, my name is Amelia Clark. I am your new boss from now onward. And yes, I am, unfortunately, Steven's firstborn. We made a deal about a week ago, and he lost--meaning that he had to hand over his title to me."
"So what now? We have to follow the orders of a midget like you?" a woman sneered at me, making me glare at her.
"I'm pretty sure that's what you do when the title has been handed to a 'midget like me', Bimbo." I sneered back. "I need someone to inform whoever is guarding the front gate that a man and a woman by the names of Lindsey and Wesley are going to arrive soon. Be back as soon as you send the message."
"Yes ma'am," someone said, and soon enough, they were out the door.
"Enough of the formalities. You won't have to call me ma'am, miss, boss, or whatever. Just call me Amelia. This guy right here is Chase," I said, motioning to Chase who waved awkwardly with his good hand.
"Excuse me, um, Amelia," a different woman spoke up. "Sorry to interrupt, but before this whole thing happened, Steven told us to hold captive a woman...what should we do with her?"
"Do you know her name?" I asked.
"No..." she trailed off, and I sighed.
"Victor, bring this woman here. Handle her with care, please. Try not to scare her off even more than she might be," I ordered, and he immediately walked out the room. Just as he left, Lindsey and Wesley came in with the guy that left to send the message.
I surely needed to learn their names...
"Lily, Chase!" Wesley exclaimed, and they walked forward to us.
Lindsey hugged me and immediately went to give Chase a sling while I introduced them both to the rest of the gang. Before I could continue my speech, however, a shriek caught our attention and Chase's eyes widened.
"Chase!"
"Mom?"

Behold the new gang leader! Do you think the new gang members will accept Amelia as her new boss? I surely hope so, because if not, things won't be so pretty. Why would Steven keep Sophia locked up inside that mansion? She's innocent of all this. Anywho, vote, and comment your thoughts and what you hope to happen in the next chapters! Best regards xx
