I don't know why I snarl, why I bare my teeth,
Why the rage comes up from somewhere beneath.
I'm a good dog, I swear, I try to obey,
But the bite is the only way I learned to stay.

That love is sharp, that trust's never clear.
So I bite, I growl—it's all that I knew,
But deep down inside, I just want to be true.
