Chapter 12
Neither of us could comprehend what we had just heard.
How was this possible?
We'd left the B&B and drove straight here, yes admittedly some strange stuff happened there but I thought both of us were okay since we left.
"We have to go down to the police station." Jade and Andrew got up and left the room with Anna and her partner.
A black fog cloud appeared and hovered in the room above us.
I looked at Chloe as her head slowly turned to face me. I noticed her eyes had again turned into two black empty sockets. From them a thick tar like substance ran down and stained her cheeks. I was losing my best friend again. Walking out of the house she obediently followed like a lost dog.
Ahead of us they'd all gotten into Jades car, they were obviously headed down towards the police station.
I grabbed onto Chloe and pulled her into her car, we were going to follow and find out the meaning behind this.
After ten minutes of driving we reached the police station, it seemed close to where the village was. I could have sworn I passed a turning which led to it. It felt odd that no one could see or hear us. It was as if there was an unbreakable barrier in place between. Surely we couldn't really be dead? Maybe I had truly lost my mind and all of this was a nightmare.
As they spoke to the officers I couldn't help but overhear how our bodies had been found.
According to the inspector Chloes eyes had been gouged out, her neck broken but I seemed spotless with only a few bruises.
The cause of death was still unknown.
Sitting down in the reception area I went over the nights events. The village must be real. We stayed there and witnessed terrible things.
I didn't think my imagination could be that vivid and twisted. Chloe was sat staring into space. Her eyes had returned to their usual state. Surely my mind was playing tricks on me.
"I don't understand what's happened. All I remember is being at the B&B and then at Jades. Where is everyone?"
"It doesn't matter where they are because they can't see or hear us."
The realisation that we weren't alive anymore slowly sank in. I felt hollow and lifeless. Chloe was looking at a map on the wall of Dorchester and the neighbouring villages.
"Where we stayed should be around here. Because look there's the petrol station we went to." She pointed it out.
"You're right, it's as if it was never there." The map dated back to 1970 so it should be located there.
Leaving our living friends inside we exited the station and stepped outside. But we weren't outside the station anymore.
We were standing in the middle of the village in front of the statue of Louie Howard. Looking down at us it looked lifelike. A deep and gurgling laugh escaped it's lips before it turned back to stone. Turning round we faced the B&B.
The voices were clear this time, "Return to find out the truth."
A strange red glow appeared to seep through the windows.
I tried to inhale the cool night air but my lungs didn't seem to work.
Taking a few steps foward I looked at Chloe. "Time to find out how we died."
