Chapter Twenty-Four
Heartbreak filled the minds of those around Laurel and Zachary. As a void was made between the two.
~~At Zachary's Head Quarters~~
Sam sat on the couch with everyone like usual. Except this time instead of watching the television they were too busy watching the door to Zachary's office.
He went in there last night and sat down in his chair. A place he hasn't sat in for the two months that Laurel was here.
"Should I go check up on him? Or should I just sit here like the rest of you?" Tom spoke quietly as he woke up.
Everyone stayed quiet and turned to him for a breif moment. Nate shook his head slightly.
"Just leave him be. Time is the only medicine I can prescribe." Chris said as he walked to the door. Only the sound of heavy breathing of an angry and frustrated person could be heard.
"No. Time is a horrible medicine. Time only makes things worse. What he needs, truely, is us. He needs to get her back one way or another."
Sam stood up proudly at his response while the others gave him blank stares.
"She did lie to him." Masoch said from his spot on the couch. "But she did love him too."
Tom snapped back causing Masoch to look down in shame. "True. Very true."
"So is it settled?"
With a nod everyone stood up and put their hands together in the middle of their circle.
"Plan get the girl back is a go!"
"Chris, please don't ever say that again..."
~~Laurel's Home~~
Sofia sat in silence with Laurel. She hasn't said a thing yet, wondering if her friend would notice her presence.
"Laurel?" She called in a whispered tone. Her voice though appeared twice as loud because of the heavy silence.
The brunette said nothing. She turned with red puffy eyes to look at her. Her hair a mess and, for once, not in a ponytail.
Sofia could hardly recognize the girl she had grown up with.
"What?" Her raspy voice responded not even caring what her friend wanted to tell her.
"I'm not going to ask if you're okay, because I know you're not. I'm just going to wait on you to say something. Anything, that will help you. Just say the word and I'll do it."
With brown eyes Sofia looked depply into her friends.
"Then please leave me alone for a while. I don't like pity. Everyone here pities me. I hate it." She replied as if life itself had just been screwed over.
With a sigh Sofia walked out the room with determination set in her mind.
She walked around hallway after hallway. Twisting and turning until she finally managed to get to Mr. Aquilla's office.
Knocking she waited until his usual grim voice sounded out with a simple, "Come in." As told she opened the door and closed it behind her with a small 'click'.
"What do you need Sofia?" He spoke, hardly looking up from his papers. "I need you to get off of your ass and fix this mess."
He looked up a that. Never in his life had he expected Sofia of all people to cuss directly at HIM.
"Fix what?" He replied only to watch as her stance changed into a tenser one.
"You daughter has been in her room crying all day. What do you think! She obviously liked the guy if not love him! And he obviously doesn't know about the rules!"
Mr. Aquilla had indeed felt bad about taking away his daughter, but the Ruso's didn't follow all of the rules. Laurel could never be with a guy like that.
"Sofia. I can't fix anything. She'd get hurt either way. They wouldn't last as a couple. One raised with the rules and the other a free stallion. It just doesn't work out in the end."
She gave me a glare but said nothing.
"The only way she could possibly be hurt would be to never explain to him what happened."
Sofia walked out fuming with anger. No only was she angry for her friend, but for being so stupid and allowing it to get this far.
Sighing he went back to work and attempted to ignore the guilt building up in his heart. Key word; attempting.
"She's right you know." He looked up to see his wife and her long hair loose from its usual bun.
"I know, I just finally got my daughter back, I don't want to loose her."
Sighing Isabell stood up straight and walked around his desk. "Then why is she holed up in her room a sobbing mess?"
A look of guilt crossed Louis' face as he looked down at his papers.
Sighing Isabell sat on his desk removing his papers in the process.
Louis looked at his wife guilt washing over him in the process. That was always something tht she did to him.
Whenever he did something stupid or mean, just one small glance at her and he'd be on his knees begging for forgiveness.
"Then what should I do. I don't want her to get hurt. He doesn't follow the rules, she does. The only thing that kept them together was the fact that she had nowhere else to go."
Isabell glared at her husband ashamed of the fool he was being.
"No. On the contrary he could show her how to loosen up a bit, how to not follow the rules all the time while she teaches him how to step back and follow the rules to keep people safe."
Another sigh left the couples lips. It was going to be a long day of arguing.
~~Sofia's P.O.V.~~
I walked straight out of HQ and towards the place Rodrego was at.
Honestly, I don't think I love him. We were so caught up in the forbidden romance that we didn't even think about what we were doing.
However, out of all the people in the world, he would be happy to help me.
"I see my lovely girlfriend has come to me." I was greeted as soon as I walked into the bar he would meet me at.
"Rodrego not now. I need help." I shoved him off as soon as he tried to kiss me.
"Fine, geez. Ya date a girl and she never wants to kiss you again." I rolled my eyes and sat down in a booth.
"It's about Laurel." He sat down and went wide-eyed. "Is she pregnant?"
I looked at him and began to stand up. "No you idiot! She's in love! And her father took her away from him because his group doesn't follow all of the rules."
He contemplated what I said before speaking.
"Number 1; if you wanted to break up just say so." I Looked down slightly ashamed of myself.
"Number 2; Don't call me and idiot." He pointed at me with a raised eyebrow.
"Number 3; I'll help you." I sighed in relief.
"But remember that I'm no longer your boyfriend, sorry."
"No it's okay. Honestly, it's a releif." I said as I sat back down in the booth.
"Here's what we need to do. He had elites with him right? Did they look sad, mad, happy, what?"
I raised an eybrow and thought for a moment trying to remember.
"He did. Five I believe. They seemed fairly mournful." Rodrego smiled at me.
"Bingo."
~~Zachary's HQ~~
Chris knocked on the door to Zachary's office again. This time he seemed to be loosing patience, very uncharacteristic of him.
"Zachary! God dammit open this door!" He yelled causing everyone to drop to the floor.
Chris NEVER yelled. EVER.
"I'm your leader. So I order you to leave me be." Zachary replied his voice hoarse from lord knows what.
Before Chris could retort a knock sounded on the door across the room.
Nate, being the closest opened the door only to be shoved aside by a fairly angry and highly annoyed female.
"Is this Zachary Ruso's HQ?" The men looked at her warily not saying anything. "I'm not a cop. I work with Laurel in the Aquilla group."
They sighed a little in relief before speaking.
"Yes this is the Ruso HQ. Zachary is currently locked in his office and refuses to open the door."
"My name is Sofia, now step aside." Listening to the petite female Chris stepped away from the door watching as she charged and kicked it down.
Inside was a mess. One of the chairs was knocked over and papers were EVERYWHERE.
"Zachary Ruso! Show your face right now or you'll regret it!" Said man was in his chair facing away from the door.
"I'm right here." He said as he spun his chair around.
"Good now listen. Laurel HAD to lie. If she didn't then you would've more than likely taken her back home where she was told she would HAVE to marry Rodrego. However, it was a set-up. Our rules state that any female whom is next in line for a mafia group must survive 61 days, or 2 months, on their own. We didn't tell her that. So think about it."
And think he did. Zachary already felt bad enough, but this made him feel worse.
"Then what should I do?" He asked looking as his team slowly assemble behind the blonde.
"I looked into some of the rules, was she offically apart of the group?"
Zachary looked up quizically, his red eyes becoming less subtle.
"What do you mean by offical?" He asked with a small bit of hope.
"Well, did she join you on deals and have input in ongoing tasks." Sofia said pulling out her phone and doubling checking herself.
"Yes. She saved our lives once or twice."
Sofia smirked and nodded her head. "Then the Aquilla group has kidnapped a member of your group sir. Whatcha gonna do about that?"
A smirk formed on his face as he rushed over to the blonde.
"Thank you."
"Actually, you don't need to make any plans because I already did." Sofia said with a smile as she removed his arms from around her.
"I like this girl." Tom spoke as he draped his arm over her shoulders leaving said girl with a blush on her face.
~~Laurel's Room~~
Rodrego walked in her room as if he owned the place and plopped right down on her bed holding a pint of icecream.
"Get out." She said not even looking at who it was.
"But I brought you icecream!" He whined holding out a spoon. Looking away from the window she looked at him her puffy red eyes brightened a bit remembering all the times she beat him up.
"Thanks." Laurel said as she stood up and walked over to her bed. Without a second thought she took the spoon in her hands and sat on her bed.
"Here ya go." He said as he gave the icecream to his oldest friend. She opened it up and allowed some tears to escape as she began to eat the chocolate icecream.
"Sofia told me to grab chocolate. By the way we broke up. Not that it would interest you much. It was a mutual understanding, no tears shed." Laurel looked at him and felt worse.
Why couldn't she get an easy break up?
"Hey no more tears! I mean come on, I get being kidnapped sucks but he'll come for you. I gotta go now, just wanted to come and see how you were doing."
Before anymore comments were made Rodrego got up and left. Leaving behind a very confused Laurel.
What are these people planning?
