POV Alina

I couldn't breath. It felt like someone was closing my windpipe and that my eyes were bulging out of their sockets. Some seconds later, some air came into my lungs again. My breathing was still rapid, but I could manage. I slowly took a step forward, cautious for any harm. The policemen's eyes showed no mercy, not even the slightest sign of it. I whipped on my left foot to my right foot. I wanted to run away, but I just couldn't. It was like my feet were glued to the ground. Yarah still looked at me with a fearful glaze. Her light brown eyes peered in the direction of my blue ones. The policeman who stood before the others, took a step forward and put his taser away into his pocket.

"May I ask why you've stolen something from the market?" His voice sounded deep and rough. His looks showed not to mess with him, but I was  stubborn enough to role my eyes and say:

"Thousand of people steal. You can't arrest them all. After all, I'm a minor. You can't put me behind bars." The meaning of my stubbornness was to sound confident, but my voice sounded anything but that. I trembled and stuttered, what was not supposed to happen. The policeman tapped on his angled chin.

"I can't put you behind bars, that's right. I am very aware of that. But who says I can't just send you to the royals?"  That sentence totally shocked me. He wasn't going to send me to the royals, was he? He couldn't do that, he was probably just trying to scare me. Or isn't he? The royals were cruel and reckless. They didn't  care if you were a child. They never do. The name already points it out: they were from royal blood. They lived in a big castle. My mother died because of the royals. She accidentally caused a fire within the city, because of some stupid cooking fault. She left the house to get some more supplies for her famous self made food: Relansi. A mix of rice, peppers, potatoes, tomatoes and squid. It was my favourite food; it always smelled so nice, plus it was very easy to make. But unfortunately, after my mother died, I didn't eat it anymore. I just couldn't. She died because she forgot to turn the cooker off, which was the consequence of making Relansi. After the accident, the house went up in flames, affecting other houses too. The police was immediately called and they took my mother to the royals, where they brutally executed her for killing five human beings. I was forced to leave her without saying goodbye. It was a day that has been imprinted in my head forever. A day I could never forget.

"Please sur, I'm begging you. Don't take me to the royals. I was just buying a present for my father's birthday." It seemed like I had hit a soft spot. The policeman's glaze softened for a moment, but hardened right after.

"I will take you to the station, where you can explain me the whole thing." I nodded my head, happy that they weren't taking me to the royals. I mouthed a sorry to my best friend and left together with the policemen. Let's get this over with.

"So, you're probably wondering how we've discovered that you're a thief." I bit my lip, preventing myself from making a sarcastic comment. I shook my head vertically. The policeman who was questioning me pointed to the camera's that were placed in the corners of the room. He was smiling like a maniac, proud of his discovery.

"That beautiful thing helped me. You see, they aren't normal camera's; they can see right through you." He was smiling even more- if that was even possible. His eyes were screaming danger, but still, I stayed completely quiet and didn't dare to move. What did he mean with that? How can a camera see right through someone?

"They can see through your soul." He didn't have to say more. I knew exactly what he meant now. I should have known sooner, after all, he was smiling like a crazy person who just found out that aliens were real. I didn't blink. I didn't even breath. All I did was looking at the man with a dull expression. The man grinned at me, pointing his big, fat and shaking finger at me.

"I know who you are, little girl. I know what you are. You can't hide from the truth. This is destiny, this is what god would've wanted. He would've wanted me to found out that you're not who you say you are. I was chosen for this! I- I- I- just know it. It is my faith to kill you." After those words, I was sure of my suspicions. This man is absolutely insane. I bit on my nail while closing my puffy eyes. I needed to get out of here, before things get out of hand.

"Sir, are you okay? I think you've mistaken me with someone else." I said innocently, twirling a strand of hair on my finger. The man laughed, shaking is head no.

"I'm pretty sure I'm not, Alina Maranov." I stood up from the chair I was seated on and looked at the man with big eyes.

"How do you know my name?" The crazy guy rolled his eyes, tapping on the table with his head in an odd angle. His eyes were slowly becoming black, veins popping from his eyes. Blood was pouring out of his mouth, splashing on the ground. He looked absolutely horrifying and I was sure that he wasn't human.

"I know everything about you." He jumped towards me with an inhuman speed and grabbed my collar with his big hands. He moved a little closer to my face and opened his mouth, showing his long, purple tongue. It felt like I was paralysed. I couldn't do anything but watch. I tried to wrangle myself out of his grip, searching for a sharp object, but there was nothing here close to me, except for a strange looking book. His tongue nearly reached my chin. I closed my eyes, hoping that it was all just a bad dream. Suddenly, I heard a loud thud. I opened one eye and almost fell backwards. The man- no, the creature, was laying on the floor, dead. I looked at my hands and then back at the lifeless body. Did I do that? I kneeled before him. His eyes were wide open. They weren't black anymore; they went back to his normal dark brown eyes. You couldn't see the black veins anymore, nor the blood on his mouth. Was it all just a hallucination? I began to panic. My breathing became more rapid and my heart was beating loud, too loud. Did I kill an innocent man?

I ran out of the room and I didn't stop running, until I reached the woods. There was one single question that was really haunting me:

How did I kill that man?
