Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Hours had passed by.
There was a sudden uproar of heat in my lower belly as if I was a female wolf in her breeding cycle. I had been thankful day and night for not being a werewolf even though it was in my stronger genes to become one. It infuriated my father when he realized I couldn't shift or become a werewolf like him.
Worse, he blamed my mother for her and beat her to pulp for weeks after my thirteenth birthday.
I flung the window open and took a glance at the bottle in the corner. It was in place and it hadn't broken yet, but the odd scent was now reeking in the air around. Thankfully, it wasn't in my room.
I blamed the spell for the heat inside me. It created a connection between me and the marked men—a rather sexual one.
The light had left the skies and the moon had risen. It was five minutes before eight when I went out of the royal court and into the gardens where I hoped Callan would be waiting for me. When I reached, he wasn't anywhere.
I sighed and waited near the lush tree before sending a text to him, telling him I was here and waiting.
I began to contemplate what I was doing here, especially after the last surprise he had given me yesterday night. My screams were still echoing in my ears. What was he going to do this time?
Something, a cloth, came over my eyes and then over my mouth. I didn't even have a moment to understand. Before I could scream, I became silenced and blinded. Strong, tough hands came around me, tugging me away. Thoughts raced in my mind while my heart trembled in my chest.
"Shh. Be quiet." Callan said in my ears before parting his hand away from my mouth.
I swallowed my scream, "What are you doing?" I demanded to know.
The cloth on my head and eyes tightened along with the hold over my wrists. It wasn't just him. There was someone else. Dion. It should be him.
They forced me to walk on my feet. I tried to reach for the cloth over my eyes, but my hands were restrained. I saw nothing ahead except for darkness. The only sense I could use was my nose to smell as we left the gardens and headed elsewhere.
"Where are you taking me?" I repeated and every time I asked, I was silenced.
The voice of a car's engine roared in my ears. A hand came over my waist before I felt it shove against me. I fell into the car. My chest rose and dropped. The same hand wrapped around my thighs, pushing my legs into the car as well. My back pressed against the seat.
My heart thumped in fear as my hands, finally free, reached for the blindfold, but before I could take it off, I felt another hand around me.
"Don't take it off," Callan said, "Not until I say so." I could hear him only inches away from me, his warm breath trailing down my cheek and neck.
"What are you doing with me?"
"Just wait, little witch." He held my both hands in his one and pulled them down, toward his legs.
I didn't fight. The engine of the car spurt even louder as the wheels began to turn. In only a few seconds, I felt the car moving across the bricked road near the royal court where people had their cars parked.
My head moved left and right in both panic and fear.
"Take the left, go straight from the woods, and turn off the lights," Callan said, loosening his grip on my hands for a split second only.
My brows furrowed. I tried to look through the cloth, but couldn't see anything at all. Scattered breaths left my throat. What was happening to me?
"No one's going to know. Don't worry." Dion responded, from a distance. It sounded like he was seated in the front of the vehicle while I was behind, with Callan.
Were they going to kill me?
When I thought about it, I began to panic even more. His hand clamped around mine. I pulled my legs up, pushing him back from my feet and hoping to free myself from whatever he was thinking of doing with me.
"Come on, little witch. It's not like I'm going to kill you or something," He said, his voice frustrated as he grabbed my feet and held them back from meeting with his face. "Use your feet again and I'll tie them."
"What are you doing with me? Take this off my head!" I exclaimed, back all the way to the opposite side.
The car began to move quicker across the road. I could feel the world flashing by, and the sudden jerks as the wheels moved over small rocks and other things on the road. Where were they taking me?
He grabbed my arms and forced me back up on the seat.
"I thought you were a bit more courageous than this. Does it scares you that you're here, with me, now?" He asked, taunting me at the same time.
I pursed my lips tight and said nothing. He chuckled and sat back. Dion continued to drive and I couldn't see where. Callan wouldn't let me take the blindfold off, not until we were driving on an extremely bumpy road where every movement forced the car to tremble and shudder.
It was sometime later before the car came to a complete stop and the cloth over my head and eyes came off.
I quickly looked around, taking in my surroundings which were far less sinister than I thought they would be. There were trees everywhere and the car was parked in the middle of nowhere.
Dion shot me a glance from the driver's seat, "This is not all." He grinned.
They both stepped out after killing the engine and slammed the car door. I hesitated before going out with them. What if they knew I was working with Alexandria? My gut told me many things, but I doubted they were going to harm me.
"Come on, we are going to show what goes here at night." Callan reached up and placed his hand on my back, forcing me to move.
My teeth rattled as it became colder and colder. We moved further inside the woods, I hope they were. I couldn't hear any howls from a distance which meant we were nowhere near the royal court.
Suddenly, lights sparked in front of me. Callan pushed his hand further, bending me down along with himself. We all crouched at once, behind a tree.
Callan's eyes became firm on me. I opened my mouth to say something but his hand crept over my face. "Shh," He whispered, "Not one word."
I didn't say anything after that. My attention shifted to the scorching campfire being burned only a few meters away from us. There were a few people around the fire, walking in circles, chanting something.
Witches.
They were witches and they were practicing black magic.
My eyes became wide. It was the first time I had seen someone actually do black magic in front of me and it was wild. The energy was dangerous and it was surrounding all of us.
"Do you know what we are doing here?" Callan asked, his voice low as it could get.
I shook my head, "They all are witches."
"Yes, and I meant to kill them," He responded with a wide smile. "And do you know who sent me here?" I didn't—I was clueless. "The Queen. She wants me to kill them and bury their bodies before daylight so no one knows that these witches have done black magic. Can you take it?"
A small gasp escaped from my mouth in surprise. My knees brushed against the dirt beneath and I sat down, surprised. This is what Alexandria made other people to do. She didn't get her hands dirty, even when she could've.
Callan's face and posture was relaxed along with Dion's as they both watched the witches continue with their chanting.
I stared ahead, looking at them while knowing they were going to be dead in minutes.
