Chapter 51
Chapter 51
"Alexandria's going to know that we are involved in this," Dion said. "It's only a matter of time." He planted his hands on the wooden table and continued with a hint of fear in his eyes.
With my mother no longer in Alexandria's hold, she was going to figure out everything—which meant we didn't have much time. She was certainly smart enough to know Callan and Dion had a part in taking my mother away from her captivity and she was also going to know about the dead guard they had killed.
"Thankfully, we don't have any family to worry about." Callan chuckled as he folded his arms across his chest.
He wasn't wrong.
"But when I returned to court after my run, I overheard Claudia," Dion glanced at me, the worry in his eyes only furthering. "She's going to come after you soon enough for killing her brother and that's something you have to be careful about. She has a strong pack behind her and she must've told most of your extended family about what you did."
"Who the fuck's Claudia?" Elijah interrupted.
My jaw went tight as I glanced at him. He was seated with a drink in his hand and his leg folded over the other one while a faint grin continued to linger on his face as if he had won a victory when in fact, he was the one whose cock hardened beneath me. His attitude was a little softened since the whole event that occurred upstairs in the bedroom. But I still despised him and nothing was going to change that.
"No one you need to know about," I turned my attention back to Dion and said, "Claudia doesn't scare me. It's fine. She won't be able to do much."
He nodded and somewhat agreed with me.
"She's right, Dion. Alexandria's our biggest concern right now. She's going to know soon about her mother's disappearance from her captivity and then she's going to come for our heads—"
"She won't kill any of us," Elijah rose up and approached the table. "She needs us to undo the curse on her so she won't do anything. The most my mother will do is try to get her." He raised his glass and pointed it in my direction.
"Why?" Callan asked, his tone demanding and possessive.
"Because she has a different magic within her. It's unheard of. Therefore, she has my mother's attention and my mother still needs to know who are the other two who carry the mark. Something tells me another witch cannot find us," He explained while batting a glance at me. "Or else why would she have a twenty-something girl chasing us?"
"What kind of magic?"
The atmosphere in the room changed. It became chilling cold suddenly and I wasn't sure if it was just me.
When Elijah touched me and tried to take my magic, he found nothing within me to take.
"I'm not sure..." he trailed off, clearly lying. He knew what it was but he didn't want to tell me, or anyone else inside the room.
"Vivian," Callan turned to me, his eyes piercing into my soul. "Will you be fine here?" His question wasn't about whether I wanted to stay here or not, it was about me—if I was willing to against Alexandria and stay away from her.
I nodded, "I'll be here."
A warm smile stretched over his face as he found belief in my words. I didn't want to lie to him, not after he had saved my mother from wherever she was. Hurting him was the last thing on my mind. I wanted to be over with this, and I wanted to go far from here, or maybe not.
I tore my gaze away from Callan before my heart began to flutter again. Dion held my attention next as he questioned about the whole event and when it was supposedly going to take place.
"When I met Alexandria first, she told me to find the four cursed men by the end of winter, before trees began to flourish. Since King Stephan put the curse, it must be his hundredth anniversary that would break the curse which lands on—"
"January 13th." Elijah spoke.
"It's still far," I said, easing my own mind. There were two months left before his anniversary, enough time to reverse it all. It was still unknown what kind of doom was going to enter the world if Alexandria broke the curse, or what would she become. "I can find a way to break the curse. I just need time for it to figure it out."
"Are you sure you can?" Dion asked me with doubt in his voice. "King Stephan was a notorious king, and we all know that. He was far more powerful than anyone in existence and he lived for over four-hundred years."
I had some knowledge about King Stephan's reign. He had been the greatest king that went down in history, far better than Alexandria could ever be. She didn't rule as he did. Her rule was more about suppressing power and deception. She cursed everyone who did black magic and beheaded witches—her own kind—left and right.
Breaking a curse King Stephan put was nearly impossible. I was out of my mind to even think I could do it, but I had to find a way.
"I'm not sure," I replied. "But I can surely try to."
"Don't keep hopes." Elijah mocked in the corner while pouring another drink into his glass before sitting down.
My hands tightened at the thick edge of the wooden table while my teeth clenched. He glared at me and I returned the obnoxious stare.
"There's no harm in trying," I said, loosening my hold on the table. I wasn't going to let him reach my last nerve, not a man like him. "And if it works, we don't need to do anything after that."
"But she would know, wouldn't she?" Concern spread over Callan's face.
I bit the inside of my cheek and nodded, "She would."
"She'll come after you."
"I can run."
He turned to me, his worry lines deepened over his forehead. "She'll find you, Vivian."
"I'll keep running." That was something to be worried about later on, once I could manage to break the curse.
"For eternity?" He quirked a brow at me and I went quiet.
My eyes narrowed to the ground as I realized that there was absolutely no way out of this. Even if I did break the curse, Alexandria was going to destroy me and if I didn't, they were going to be sacrificed in a ritual.
Callan slipped his arms around me before pulling me into his embrace. I pressed my eyes tight shut and hugged him back. I was ought to be doomed one way or the other.
"It's fine. We'll figure something out," He slipped his fingers into my arm and held me tighter before pulling away. "Don't worry, I won't let you die." He kissed the side of my cheek before we parted ways.
Standing against the entrance door of the house, I looked outside, finding the sky dark as the night and some light drizzle which made it colder. Dion shifted before leaving for court to keep tabs on whatever was going on there, especially with my father's family.
"I'll bring you some clothes by tomorrow evening." He placed his hand against my face and said.
"Please," I shivered under the cold and wrapped my arms around myself. "And see me soon before I go manic here."
He chuckled and shook his head while his thumb brushed over my cheek. "You'll be fine. Safe."
"Will you be?"
"I believe so. If what Elijah is saying is true, Alexandria won't come after me or Dion. We'll be safe from her until it's time to break the curse."
"I don't believe anything he says." I rolled my eyes at the thought of him.
He was nowhere near me right now and I could finally breathe some more before spending the rest of the night in here, with him, all alone.
"He has knowledge far better than us. Take his help, you'll need it."
My skin prickled as we continued to talk about him. "I rather die." I whispered, my voice low. He wasn't here, but he was still somewhere in the house, probably listening to us.
A moment of silence stretched between us as we gazed into each other's eyes. Callan leaned and gave me a soft kiss on my lips. The world blurred and I only saw him. My heart drummed in an uneven beat as my eyes flickered over his face.
There was something meant to be said in the silence, but he didn't say it and neither did I. Without another word, he left the house and I stayed back, still trapped and unable to leave unless someone wanted me to leave.
I watched him and in a matter of few seconds, he disappeared into the dark night.
My soul continued to crave him.
Let's see what Elijah has planned for her next... ;)
