I was sitting in the waiting room at the hospital, watching the bulky boxed TV that was playing the news. A whole night had passed and Doctor Collins informed me that KL had finally eaten the food I had bought her yesterday, which was a relief. The room smelled of bleach and rubber gloves, a typical smell for a hospital. As I was watching the television, it was talking about the plane crash that KL's parents were in. I tried to watch it, but I just had to shut my eyes. I could not imagine the pain that KL had to endure right now. We're both only teenagers. The fact knowing that you're not going to be able to have your parents there for your high-school graduation was horrible itself. Then to think about all of the other events that she will have to go through without her parents by her side made it even worse. To personally know that KL had such a close, loving relationship with her parents and then know that they're gone out of her life in an instant was just horrible. Her parents were all out great people, and they most definitely did not deserve to die. Unfortunately, as much as we can't understand why things happen, they just do and we have no say about it.

Everything that KL has ever known has just crashed down around her. This means that as she's falling, I have to be the one to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart and put them back together. As her best friend, I will make sure that I keep her safe. I will let her vent whatever she needs to vent out. I will be her shoulder to cry on and her journal to write down all of her secrets.

It wasn't until Melody opened my eyes that I actually admitted to myself that I might actually have feelings for KL. Every time that my mind managed to wander off to that thought, I always just disregarded it and said that I was just being silly. Now that I actually took the time out to think about it, I feel as if the words that Melody had told me were right. She knew all along that I had loved KL, and I was stupid enough not to see it. Reflecting back on this, I felt really bad. I can't believe she had really felt like I neglected her and didn't love her. Deep down, I know that Melody and I really had something special, but what's done is done.

Looking back up at the television screen to see if the time was on the news channel. I saw that it was 5:09 PM. I couldn't help but wonder when they were planning to release KL. After all, one could get pretty restless when being here for three days straight. Of course, I would never admit that to her because she really needed me at this point and time. Tired of sitting down, I stood up to go to the cafeteria to get something to eat. As I began to walk down the main hallway, I saw Doctor Collins and KL walking toward me.

" KL!" I happily exclaimed.

She looked so pale and tired. She shot me a weak smile. " Hey Seth."

I looked up at Doctor Collins who was standing next to her. " So is she going home today doc, or is she just taking a stroll?"

" Actually, she's good to go home. All of her vitals have returned to normal, though her energy is depleted and her anxiety level is a bit high. I believe that this is due to the certain circumstances that have risen in her life," he nodded toward me, as if asking if I comprehended what he was saying. I nodded back at him, saying that I did.

He looked at KL. " May I have a word with Seth for a moment?"KL nodded at him and began to walk off to the waiting room.

The doctor looked at me. " I believe that you two are pretty close, correct?"

I nodded. " I'm her best friend."

" Well due to the loss of her parents, she has no one to watch over her. Keep an eye on her for me please. I don't need her passing out again when nobody's around."

" I will most definitely watch over her doc."

" Good, then. I hope you are a man of your word," He said while proceeding toward KL. I followed his lead.

" Miss Kiyano," the doctor spoke. " I need you to go ahead and get some rest. Drink plenty of fluids and make sure to keep some vitamins flowing in your system to keep your energy levels up. Alright?"

KL nodded. " Thank you."

" You're welcome," he said with a warming smile. Then he walked off down a hallway.

Standing in front of KL, I ruffled her hair.

" You ready to go now?"

" More than ever. I don't want to live in the hospital," she said while smiling.

" Alright then, let's go."

KL and I reached my car, and I ordered some Chinese take out for both of us before we took off. I ordered her favorite for her, General Tso Chicken without the spicy stuff. I then ordered a chicken wing dinner for myself. As we drove in the car together, we blasted the radio up and started singing to every song that came on. We both sounded like idiots, especially when there was a red light and we were singing along to Miley Cyrus's party in the USA. Let's just say, I got a little carried away in the karaoke moment and the guy in the car next to me looked quite disturbed.

When we reached the Chinese place, I left her in the car and went to go pay for our food. I came out with our food in hand, and handed the bag to her to hold while I drove to her house.When we reached her house, she took the Chinese food inside and put it on the kitchen table. We both opened the plastic lids to our meals and began eating away.

I looked at KL, and to bother her I said, " You know, you should really give me one of those chickens."

She spoke with a stuffed mouth, " No way! You ate my Chinese leftovers last time AND you ate the rest of my leftover pizza just this weekend."

" So...," I said.

" So you're not getting any!"I chuckled.

" You're so stingy."

" Says the one who has a whole plate in front of him and is trying to eat my food!"

" That's not being stingy that's-"

A big booming noise came from inside of the house. We both shut up, and both forgot that we were playfully arguing. We were both focused on what in the world made that noise.

" What was that Seth?" She asked me, her amber eyes widened with fear.

" How am I supposed to know? This is your house," I responded. The sound continued to ring loudly through my ears.

KL stood up from her chair and slowly began walking toward the direction that the noise was heard from. I had no choice but to get up and follow her.

" What are you doing? Are you crazy?"

" I was just-"

Loud noises filled the atmosphere and bright flashes nearly blinded my eyes. All I could make out were these loud, repetitious sonic booms  that left my ears ringing to the point where I felt like I was going to go deaf. I pulled KL close to me and ran behind the island she had in her kitchen. We both got down and used the island as cover. I put a hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming. We were both being shot at.

This was no game to play. This was life or death, and I couldn't lie, I was feeling very shaky. I heard footsteps, as if heavy boots were walking across the floor. It was as if the person's footsteps were mocking us. Every step taken was in perfect beat to the other. If you listened closely you could hear it. One.....Two......One....Two...... My heart was practically beating out of my chest. I heard the clicking from reloading the gun.

" Kitara-Lily Kiyano, you cannot hide anymore from us. We know who you are and what you are capable of," the person who was trying to hurt us said. His voice echoed through the silent room. It created an eerie feeling.

My anger level raised to a whole new extreme. I would give my life for KL. She was my best friend and I loved her. I wasn't going to let some murderous person take her away from me.

A yelp escaped KL's lips as I looked over to my side. The man was right next to her, a gun dangling from his hand. He looked at me with a smirk on his face. His eyes glowed a bright red which caused the knot of fear in my stomach to squeeze even tighter. He had brown hair that hung over his eyes landed just beneath his ears. He pressed his gun to my head, I heard KL scream, and I took a deep breath in as I prepared for my fate.
