Chapter Fifty

THIRD POV

"Thank Merlin it's a Friday." Severus had to fight to keep his scowl intact as he watched the NEWTS level students trickle into his classroom. It didn't help that he could hear his little classical music connoisseur giggling in his office. "Do you think Harry is safe? What with Snape looking after him and all." He barley heard the whisper, but it sobered the Potions Master immediately, his scowl melting into a sneer. The girl's friend quickly shushed her, sending a quick, panicked look at the teacher. Unaware that they were being listened to, they continued in whispery tones. "You don't just say something like that, Parvati! And didn't you see how he fed and protected him in the Great Hall? That had to account for something." The girl, Parvati Patil, hummed in thought before she gasped. "What if he's using Harry?" Severus didn't like the emphasis she put on 'using'. Draco, who had been listening in as well, stiffened in his seat at the implication, shooting glares at the two Gryffindors.
A few moments later, The Potions Master has to bite back a growl as both girls turned to look at him in contemplation. "I don't know. I could see him being the type, but he also kinda looks like a virgin." The vampire felt a mix of pride and embarrassment in his gut, but ignored it as he cast a look at his watch. Seeing that it was time for the start of the lesson, Severus cleared his throat and flicked his wand, making the classroom door slam shut. "Turn to page six hundred forty-seven. I trust I do not have to say anything more?" The Potions Master dared anyone to say anything, quietly taking pleasure in their fear.
"Well, what are you all waiting for? Get started!" He swished his robes as the vampire turned to stalk back to his desk, gracefully sinking into his chair as he sneered, seeing them all running around like chickens with their heads cut off. One would think they were little first years, rather than seventh years, with the way they acted.
Severus' disdainful thoughts were sharply cut off as Fang chuffed, eliciting some shushing and giggles from his karus in the office behind him. Before the lesson had started, he had made sure that Harry had all the toys and treats to play with Fang to last them until the class was over. It had made him feel guilty to have to shut his submissive in like that, but thankfully, Harry had understood the reason he couldn't leave the main room, as Potions was a very dangerous subject and needed to be supervised at all times. And with that thought in mind, the Potions Master stood up and began to make his rounds, making comments and point deductions here and there, and taking extra care to pay close attention to the two Gryffindor brats that thought it was okay to speculate on a teacher's sexual acts. He also bit back on several sharp comments aimed towards Neville, knowing that being obnoxiously rude to one of Harry's actual friends would not be looked on kindly by said submissive.

"Hey Fang, do you want to play with this?" Reaching into the small box of toys, Harry grabbed a random one and brandished it in the air, waiting to feel Fang's muzzle or paw. It was a little game they had started, muzzle for yes and paw for no. Telling Fang in a way he would understand had been challenging, along with the fact that he couldn't really hear anything, just vibrations, but he had figured it out using his mage sight. The Nature Lord gave a small giggle as a wet nose tickled in his hand, and he then tried to figure out what the toy was. While it was in his hands, Fang must have grabbed it, as there was a tug on the other end that nearly dropped Harry to the floor. "Ah, tug of war then? May the best one win." Vibrations echoed through the floor as Harry tried to unbalance the large dog by tugging at random intervals and varying strengths. He giggled as a weight pulled the toy- and him- down, causing the little submissive to fall onto Fang's back. A small shriek of laughter escaped him as the dog then started to move around. The Nature Lord clung to Fang's neck as he began to run, and this was the precise position that Severus found them in.

A small chuckle came from the Potions Master as he looked into his office. Harry looked up when Fang stopped suddenly, and half-smiled when he saw an aura that looked like his subdominant's. "Professor Snape?" 'Dittany.' A full blown smile replaced the half-baked one as the submissive slipped off Fang's back, giggling. Severus shook his head fondly as he looked at the state of his office. It actually wasn't as dreadful as he thought it would be. There were barely any treats left and most of the toys were scattered about, but no accidents had happened and none of the things on his walls or desk were messed up. A quick flick of the wrist and the toys and treats were all back in their box, stored under his desk. The vampire smiled as a small growl escaped Harry's stomach, and Fang tried to investigate. A blushing submissive gently pushed his great head away as another growl worked its way free. "Is it about time for lunch?" The hopeful look on Harry's face made Severus' cold heart melt once more. A quick glance at his watch revealed that lunch would indeed start in fifteen minutes. The Potions Master furrowed his brow a bit in consternation. It had taken him longer than he thought to put everything away and begin theorizing which potions to change to fit his purpose for his karus' recovery. 'Yes, shall we?' Harry giggled before an excited gleam appeared in his cloudy eyes. "Fang, to the Great Hall please!" The dog nudged into the Nature Lord, allowing him to grab the leash, and then he began walking towards Severus. The vampire tilted his face into a scowl, but offered his hand to his karus. Fang walked up to the door and it magically swung open, most-likely due to Lady Hogwarts' influence. The small group made their way through the castle easily, and Severus was impressed with the cowardly dog. What soured his mood though, was all the whispers that seemed to follow them through the corridors. Harry seemed to pick up on it too, as he gently squeezed his hand in reassurance. The vampire was silently awed that his karus could lift his mood with such a simple action. That really was one of the purposes behind submissives, a way for nature to keep dominants from going out and killing anything that so much as looked at them wrong. Severus had to fight down the urge to smirk as he thought over Harry's idea of taking over the world. Tom didn't want to, but there was no doubt that they certainly could. Tom Riddle, the 'Voldemort' everyone either feared or worshipped, Draco Malfoy, the Lord to a politically powerful and rich family, Harry Potter, the famed Boy-Who-Lived, and himself, if anything, a well-known Potions Master and nightmare to all Hogwarts students. A 'power pairing' if Witch Weekly ever managed to accept that their top bachelors were already spoken for.
The hand enclosing his tightened its grip, causing the vampire to store the daydream away for another day and turn his thoughts back to the present. They were stopped near the doors to the Great Hall. Fang was growling softly, and Harry was frowning, being able to feel the vibrations flowing up through his hold on the leash. Severus scowled darker as he realized that the young Weasley was walking down the stairs towards them. "Snape, cut the bloody shit. Get away fro-" The redhead cut himself off with a girly scream as he tripped on an uneven step and fell down, right into a precisely-placed hole. Severus smirked as the sound of the boy's wails echoed dimly from the hole until it resealed itself. Anyone else who had been going to the Great Hall at that time stood still, staring at the Potions Master in fear. "Well? Carry on!" Severus snapped as he whipped his robes and stalked through the hall, right up to his spot at the teachers' table. Fang happily followed, nudging Harry into his seat. Grumbling quietly to himself, the vampire ran a hand over the dog's head in thanks before relaxing himself as best as he could into his stiff wooden chair.
A few moments later, his stiff wooden chair wasn't so uncomfortable. Glancing around, it heartened Severus to see that Harry was trying to sneakily slip his wand back into its holster. Keeping his amusement to himself, the vampire helped his karus secure the wand with its strap before leaning back into his seat again. Harry sent a small, sheepish smile at the Potions Master in return, causing the dour man to internally shake his head fondly.
Severus spent the rest of the day giving unpleasant lessons to the dunderheads of Hogwarts and figuring out possible ingredients that would fit in the potion to allow Harry his hearing and sight back as he listened to his little mate play with Fang in his office. He had felt a bit guilty about it until Draco had stepped in to help, having a free period between classes. And if it sated the veela's desire to cuddle with his submissive as well, then let it be known that he didn't wear the colors of green and silver for no reason.
When classes were finally over and dinner had been devoured- sadly, the Weasley had reappeared- Draco, Severus, and Harry reluctantly settled into a large loveseat in the professor's office to call their dominant and inform him of what happened. Severus had tried to put it off as long as possible, but there really was no excuse anymore. Draco shifted a bit uncomfortably, especially knowing that Tom would not be pleased. The fact that it happened and they did not inform him right away were both strikes against the vampire and veela.
After a few more minutes, Draco abruptly sighed and dug it his compact mirror, cutting off both sets of nervous thoughts. "Let's just get this over with, yeah? He'll be more mad the longer we wait." Severus hummed lightly in agreement as he swiftly took out his own compact mirror, turning to watch Harry shift a bit and furrow his brow before a look of quiet triumph prevailed on his features, pulling out his own mirror. A small quirk of the lips was Severus' response, while Draco leaned over and gently pecked his petit on the cheek. A dazzling smile was their reward as Harry flipped open his mirror, trying to set his mates at ease. The only way they were going to stop worrying was if it over with.
"Hello Poppet, why haven't you been picking up recently? Did something happen?" Delisted with the fact that Harry could see an outline of Tom's face through the magic of the mirror, another dazzling smile erupted on his face. He hadn't known how much he missed all of his mates together up until that moment. "Hi Tom! I want to ask you to open your mind and stay calm, okay? I'm fine, but Draco and Severus have something they need to tell you." The naga furrowed his eyebrows in confusion at the balant disregard for his question and at the words that his precious had said. "Why do I need to keep my mind open? Something has happened, hasn't it?" Dread filled Tom's stomach as he saw Draco and Severus' faces fill with guilt while Harry didn't respond to his questions at all. "And it happened to Harry. Severus, tell me." Severus winced at his dominant's steely tone. "It was during my NEWTS potions class. They were brewing the Draught of Living Death when Weasley somehow got ahold of Angel's Trumpet and sabotaged Harry's potion. I warned Harry, but the reaction was immediate and he was covered with the concoction. After being in a coma for three days, he woke up blind and deaf." Tom surged to his feet and roared, anger consuming his entire being. How dare someone harm his mate?! How dare they take away his sight and hearing?! Bits of plumage and scales erupted along the sides of Tom's body while his face became sharper than it naturally was. Harry whimpered as Severus and Draco winced. "Animus, your animagus is showing." Tom's sharp, red eyes shot to Severus', but he simply took a deep breath, shaking his head, and willed the partial transformation to go away. "I'm sorry. It was Weasley you said?" Draco nodded his head. "Yeah, but we think Granger was behind it too. She seems to be Weasley's leash." The naga nodded, his fingers steepled in thought. "Dumbledore was the motivator behind the attack, no doubt, but why would he want such a thing to happen to Harry? Did he expect 'Voldemort' to find out about the Boy-Who-Lived's weakness and attack, or did he want someone else to see him as helpless?" There were a few moments of silence before Draco jerked lightly. "Maybe it has something to do with the DADA Professor? Something always happens to Harry where the new professor is concerned, and my creature instincts go crazy every time I have class with him." Tom hummed while Harry reached over and gently rubbed his forearm, sensing the veela's worry. "That's a very good point; I never realized that before." A small chuckle came from Severus' throat as he thought about his karus' track record. "Yes, Harry has the most unfortunate luck when it comes to the defense professors." There was a moment of silence where Tom inspected Harry, and lightly tilted his head to the side in inquisition. "Why does our little mate seem to see me?" Draco lightly mussed his petit's hair as Severus responded. "For whatever reason, Harry still has his mage sight, and thus, is able to read magical residue. He can see the magic in the mirror I would guess, as he can see the words I write under the flagrate spell." Tom's slumped shoulders lifted a bit, as his expression lightened minutely. "That's brilliant. Has he managed to deduce whom is whom using it?" 'Karus, can you tell who is around you by their aura?' A slight tilt of the head and soft shoulder shrug was his response. "Yes and no. I can tell when it's you or Draco or any of the professors, but I wouldn't be able to tell if it was, say, Thomas Finnegan or Pansy Parkinson, as an example. I think it's because I don't know their personality." Harry shrugged again while Tom nodded his head thoughtfully. "That would make sense as to why he didn't know it was the young Weasley earlier today when we were confronted outside the Great Hall." Draco gained an alarmed look, turning his head to inspect the little one closely while Tom continued to watch Severus. "Confront?" Severus nodded his head. "Yes, Ronald was trying to make me stop taking advantage of Harry, as he seems to be running off the assumption that Harry doesn't know who I actually am." Draco scoffed as he relaxed back into Severus' left shoulder, gently petting Harry's head. "That buffoon wouldn't know the difference between a fork and a spoon if you hit him with them, seeing as the pig never even uses them. The only reason he's not been held back is because of that worthless know-it-all Granger." Tom and Severus both chuckled at their mate's spitfire attitude. "Calm Amos, nothing happened to Harry." Draco huffed and grumbled to himself as he slumped farther down in his seat. Harry smiled lightly and gently reached over to reposition Draco so that his head was in the submissive's lap. The veela relaxed into his petit's lap as soft hands nimbly carded through his hair. "But how are you, Love?" The vampire gave an unneeded sigh and smiled tightly up at Tom. The naga swore he saw a sheen of tears in those onyx eyes. "I am as well as can be expected." Tom felt his shoulders slump. Dumbledore was keeping him from his mates, and there was nothing he could do about it. "Oh, my sweet..." Severus struggled to keep his emotions in, and so when Harry placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, the vampire scooped two of his mates up into a large hug, trying to keep himself from bloody tears.
Tom sighed as he felt guilt settling even deeper into his bones. He knew it would be hard on his mates- especially so for Severus- if he let them go off to Hogwarts alone, but now that Severus has to take care of, not only Draco, but Harry as well, the subdominant was bound to feel unbalanced. There was nobody but Tom for him to lean on, as he was a naturally closed off vampire to begin with.
Another sigh racked Tom's body as he got up from his desk chair and released his magic, intent on going to the training room to try to work off some accumulated stress, but was forcefully stopped by his magic as it summoned a calendar to hover in front of his face. "What-" Tom cut himself off as he realized exactly what his magic was trying to tell him, a slow smirk forming on his face as he set up a plan. "Why, thank you. I think that will indeed work splendidly." Tom opened the door to his office and swiftly walked towards the nearest fireplace- there was work to be done.
