Chapter Fifty-Five

THIRD MULTIPLE POV

What was Dumbledore's aim with this? Severus scowled deeper and stewed silently as he sat in on a faculty meeting pertaining to the vampire attack just yesterday. The crazy Headmaster smelt of annoyance and satisfaction as the professors were all throwing questions at him on how he could possibly let the vampires stay in the Forbidden Forest when it was so close to the school. Severus personally wished to murder the man. Allowing the coven to reside next to their wards without telling the staff was one thing, but not allowing him to go out in search for a captured pupil was a lot worse. Who knew what his little submissive could be going through right now? Feedings, torture, or...
Severus grit his teeth silently as Dumbledore waved his hands in an apologizing manner. "Yes, yes. I will make sure to inform you all of any more creatures in the forest if they pose a danger to the students. I am truly sorry for the incident, but even I could not have foreseen the coven of vampires to be so close to our wards. An old man makes mistakes you see." The professors laid off for a few moments in shock, seeing the age lines prominently on the manipulator's face for perhaps the first time. "...Yes, well, you should have at least told me as well, Albus. As the Deputy Headmistress I should have known, and I am not getting any younger either." Severus had to stop his smile, Minerva really wasn't falling for anything the old coot was trying to pull anymore. It was somewhat... refreshing. It did nothing to ease his inner conflict though, as his inner creature was roaring to be let out so he could find the thrice-damned vampires that dared to take his mate, old man's permission or no.
"Headmaster, what will we be doing about Mr. Potter?" Minerva visibly drooped, her head hanging down in guilt. She obviously held herself responsible for the Golden Boy's kidnapping.
Dumbledore sighed, combing one of his hands through his beard in an unconscious gesture. "It would seem that the best course of action would be to calm down the student body first. A great many of them were nearly bitten by the attacking vampires after all, and I think they will be too concerned about themselves to notice if one student is missing. We can get Harry back tomorrow night." Sprout, Flitwick, Minerva, Hooch, and Poppy all stood up in outrage, though Flitwick hopped up onto his chair as well. "Headmaster, you can't be serious! By that time Mr. Potter may be dead!" Poppy looked like she might just curse the old fool right there, even though she had sworn not to hurt others in a mediwizard oath.
"If he is not already then there stands reason that he will still be alive by this time tomorrow. Harry is a strong boy, he will survive." Many of the professors looked uneasy at the prospect of leaving a defenseless child with deadly creatures, as they should. Severus didn't like the manipulative gleam in Dumbledore's eyes.
"As much as I hate to say it, the sacrifice of one is for the better of many. Harry would understand, the bright, selfless boy." Severus nearly growled when he noticed the resolve in the teachers withering away. They knew Harry always put others before him, but that didn't mean they could simply leave him in the hands of vampires. His submissive needed to be saved, damnit!
Dumbledore must have seen the changing emotions in his audience, as he unholstered his wand and gently flicked it, causing a small trinket- a glowing pocket watch- to float over and into his outstretched hand. "This, is a monitor. I have enchanted it to blaze red whenever a Gryffindor is in critical condition. As you can see, Harry is not currently in terrible danger." Severus could smell the lies in the old fool's lemon-scented breath, and couldn't stop his nose from crinkling in disgust. "And I am to assume that the Gryffindor house is the only one you care to keep such precautions on, Headmaster?" Dumbledore turned his twinkly eyes to the irritable vampire and waved his hand to the shelf the pocket watch had come from. There were four more objects softly glowing and pulsating with light. "Not so, my boy. I have monitors for each house, and one for you all as well." Again, Severus smelt the lies, and he wondered what the devices really were for. Maybe only Harry specifically? He would need to look at them later.
"May I have a replica of that pocket watch them, Albus? I would think, being the Head of Gryffindor, that I should have a similar warning device as well." Sprout and Flitwick both nodded their heads, and Severus sneered lightly, knowing what was expected of him. The Potions Master wouldn't need one anyway; he had wards surrounding the Slytherin common room to tell him things like that.
"If you wish. I will have to order them from the Goblins then." Flitwick narrowed his eyes in suspicion as Sprout and Minerva retracted their requests. "I apologize, I hadn't known. Here is no need to get them for us then, Albus. We've functioned so far without them." Flitwick nodded his head slowly, but the half-goblin knew that the enchantments were not of goblin heritage. The trinket was goblin made- true, the enchantments- not in the slightest. The Headmaster surly hadn't thought him such a fool? Putting the suspicion in the back of his mind to ponder over later, Filius turned his attention back to Dumbledore.
"That is quite alright. It is settled then, we will search for young Harry tomorrow night. And as for right now, we appear a united front to calm the students down." The old man stood up and plopped the watch into one of his many robe pockets, pushing in his chair and dropping an amused, twinkling gaze onto all the professors still staring at him from their seats at the table.
"Well? It is dinner time, is it not?"
