Chapter One

Third POV Limited

Harry hummed a tune quietly to himself as he weeded the garden, just as Aunt Petunia had told him to do that morning. He honestly didn't mind this chore, it was a kind of soothing regularity for him. He kept humming, gently using his magic and his fingers to coax the roots away from the beautiful plants, smoothly pulling them out of the cool soil. The breeze brushed Harry's bangs softly as he worked, taking away some of the terrible heat from the beating sun overhead and the baggy clothes that he was forced to wear. Still, sweat beaded his brow and Harry thanked Merlin that he was already done with all the other chores of the day, except for dinner, of course.
An hour later, Harry let out a sigh as he leaned back from his kneeling position. He had finally finished weeding the garden, and, throwing a glance up at the position of the sun, just in time to make dinner as well. Harry gave a small smile of satisfaction when he looked over his wonderful garden, and stood up to all the cracking of his joints. He quickly brushed himself off, secretly using magic to fasten the process, and walked inside. Uncle Vernon had not come home yet, and Dudley was playing video games up in his room, leaving Aunt Petunia enough space to watch the animal geography channel comfortably on the couch. Harry silently walked to the left of Aunt Petunia and waited for his instructions with his head down, just barely high enough for him to secretly be able to watch the part on a lion's tail signals. He patiently waited for Aunt Petunia to notice him. Once the program was interrupted by a string of commercials, Aunt Petunia finally 'noticed' him. "Make spaghetti with meatballs and tomato sauce, ravioli stuffed with cheese, and chocolate pie. Have the dinner ready by seven thirty." Harry nodded his head. "Yes Ma'am." Harry walked back to the kitchen and quickly ran over the ingredients in his head, gathering everything that he would need. He made each dish at the same time, but it took him the remaining hour and a half in order to make it all.
By almost exactly seven thirty, he was setting the table with the food resting in the middle. He was only ever able to make the food and eat the scraps. If he were to dole out portions, he would receive an even worse beating than what could be counted as normal. A few minutes after seven thirty, Uncle Vernon finally came home, but he was raging. He couldn't wait to lay into his freakish nephew after dinner. Aunt Petunia quickly called Dudley down, and everyone sat down at the table like a normal family, except for Harry, standing in the shadows behind his uncle. Aunt Petunia served Uncle Vernon and then Dudley before herself, with a clumsy grace. Both males dug into their food once it touched the table, before Aunt Petunia could even remove her hand. The whole room was soon silent except for smacking lips, scratching utensils, and the rustling of clothes as the people moved. This went on for approximately an hour before the food ran out and Uncle Vernon grew more angry. "Boy! Bring out the dessert! Fetch me some Scotch!" Harry shivered slightly at the implication of the drink, but quickly walked to get the dessert from the refrigerator, and the scotch from a cabinet. Harry opened the door, only for the labels of Brandy and RumChata to the seen. Silently praying to Merlin, Harry sifted through the cabinet, his panic growing as the drink was not found. Shakily returning to the dining room, he placed the dessert on the table, and Vernon grinned maliciously. "Where is the Scotch boy?!" Harry flinched and backs up a step, quaking. "I-it's not in the cabinet, sir. There is only Brandy and RumChata." Vernon internally crowed with delight, as he had had a very bad day at work, and he needed to blow off some steam. "Fine then, grab the the RumChata, but be sure to expect me later tonight for this, freak!" Harry cursed himself for being an idiot and nodded his head, not trusting his voice. He quickly grabbed the RumChata from the cabinet and placed it in front of Uncle Vernon, hiding in a shadow once again. Dudley quickly devoured the dessert, with the help of Uncle Vernon, though he was half occupied with drinking the RumChata. Aunt Petunia had only taken a small piece, which she wouldn't even finish, as she never did. Seeing that everyone was done, Harry quickly grabbed the dirty plates and brought them to the sink, washing them quickly. Vernon went to his couch, and Aunt Petunia retired for the night, as well as Dudley, though Harry knew he really would only be watching television on his own, probably R rated movies. Harry sighed and quickly slipped upstairs and into his room, quietly grabbing a few pieces of stale bread from underneath his bed to eat. Uncle Vernon had forgotten to give him the leftovers, or purposely didn't, so he could have another thing to throttle the poor boy for. Harry laid down on his bed and took off his glasses and shirt, wiping his brow from sweat. The Dursleys didn't want to pay for an air conditioner for any extra rooms, which included Harry's. Harry relaxed his muscles against the semi-comfortable bed and felt himself start to drift off as he thought of his friends and all of their adventures together. He had forgotten about the promise Uncle Vernon had made him.
