You have lived on a small island off the coast of the United States for your whole life. You were considered to be in a separate country, a new land. The population was low, but that ment many people lived on the countryside.

You had had this one pet your whole life. It was your age in human years, as it was born when you were and you came close to it around the age of 4. You never thought much of it.

One day, a strange ring of explosions are set off, and you wake up far from home, where your pet was left. The two of you travel, maybe making new friends, searching for your companion.

Everyone else but people who had those special pets is dead, bodies disintegrated.

Or were they?

You find your pet and realize that you both together spark your special power, of which you must discover.
