The day dawned on a colossal mansion set in the vicinity of Paris. Butlers and cooks were busy preparing for the day’s work. Madeline opened her eyes when her housekeeper came in. “Madeline” she called urgently. “Habillez-vous vite et venez pour le petit-déjeuner!”(Get ready quickly and come for breakfast.)

“Oui ”(ok )

Madeline quickly got ready and ran down for breakfast. During her meal, her butler handed her a letter. She was quite astonished as it was pretty rare to receive a letter in the time of e-mails.  She couldn’t control her excitement. She ran up to her room, plopped herself on her bed and tore open the envelope.

 The card was brightly coloured and on the top flap there was a message in French which made her jump high and almost touch the ceiling with joy. It read- “Madeline, you are selected to go to Calypso. Regards- The Wizard”

Finally she was going! She called up her friend Pauline to tell her.

“Allo Pauline. J’ai reçu une lettre. Je vais a Calypso”( I received a letter. I am going to Calypso)

“ Wow ! Madeline. C’est excellent! Regardez a l’interieur !  (That’s excellent. Look inside)

She opened the card and exclaimed in disappointment as it was a musical card which sang - Happy April Fool’s Day !
Oh no! J’oublie. Aujourd’hui est le premier d’avril, ”(Oh no, I forgot, today is the first of April)

She heard her friend’s michevous giggle on the other side.

Oh oh… she thought, I have been fooled by all my friends!
