Chapter 33 : A Thousand Things

It wasn't easy. It definitely wasn't.

It's not easy to be a girlfriend and an intern at the same time. Bite me but my boyfriend was making it even more difficult.

I am his girlfriend, sure. I know it. He knows it. Family and our friends know it but the outside world didn't.

The media sure had it's suspicion that we were in a relationship but we never gave any statement. We even kept the PDA to the lowest because we wanted it private. Rumors were out, with pictures and talks on the internet and even the news. I just might have underestimated Stellan's popularity.

We did go to the racing ring and had our occasional walks but we never gave off any proof of the things brewing between us.

Stellan wished it to be that way.

Not that I was complaining. We just didn't wish for something as new as this to already be a face of something. It would be blown out of proportion and he knew I would hate attention. Being in the limelight has its own disadvantages.

As much as I knew that our relationship was new and fragile, I knew it could go through the blows of media. I would probably get hate because I was totally stealing away the dreams of so many people. Stellan laughed when I told him that.

He thought that it would affect me. He was wrong though.

I have hated myself for far too long. I have forgotten what others hate feels like.

He was worried about my safety, blabbering how I should get a bodyguard. I straight away rejected the idea. Having someone follow you constantly is kind of annoying and I knew I could protect myself.

So for now, the relationship was out of the public eye.

Didn't mean Stellan wasn't having his sweet time teasing me!

When we aren't at the office, we sure as hell enjoy kissing. Our kisses aren't PG-13 but they are kisses nevertheless.

But I had one strict rule. While in office, I was merely an intern.

That though did not pull back Stellan from sending me winks or just pecking me out of the blue. He did that when no one was looking. I literally had to send him glares but he would just send a smirk my way. And he already knew it was a weakness of mine. I could literally do nothing when it came to his eyes or his smirk or his kiss or him as a whole.

This one time he pulled me into a corner to give me a long lasting kiss. I would be lying if I said I did not participate. Hell but his disheveled hair was all my work. I loved kissing him. Very much actually! He was making it incredibly hard for me to keep up that singe rule.

And with the look in his eyes right now, I knew he is up to something. That knowing glint in his eyes told me I had something coming and I had no idea how I would brace it.

We all were in the same room, discussing something. Something because I could definitely not make out what Ms. Kelly was saying. I was almost zeroed on Stellan. He was so bad for my health.

But I knew I couldn't let go of my vice.

The meeting soon ended and I thanked the lords. I was way too hungry.

"Well, that's it for today. You all can leave and work individually." Stellan told us.

I guess I was just being paranoid.

"....Except Ms. Hale and Ms. Kelly."

I guessed fucking too early.

I looked at him but he wasn't looking my way. His stare was set on Ms. Kelly who was way too observant. I won't be shocked if she knew about us.

My friends gave me confused looks as they moved out. I slightly ducked my head, hiding away the smile that only a specific Walker was capable of giving me.

Our friendship was no news now. Everyone knew about it so they didn't question much. Not like I could answer if they did.

Stel and Ms. Kelly talked for a few minutes, discussing some future plans, especially about the coming end of our internship.

It was almost a year in Brooke Falls now and I never noticed. The year was sure hell of a ride. I continued to nibble my lips, absentmindedly reading the slim file in my hand and giving occasional glances to the duo. When they were finally over, Ms. Kelly greeted him and was on her merry way, leaving me all alone.

All alone in the meeting room with Stellan.

Now this should be fun.

I raised my eyebrows at him.

"You wanted to talk, Mr. Walker." I knew he hated when I called him that. But what can I say, I love annoying him.

He rolled his eyes.

"I thought we were over that." He said taking a few steps forward.

I shook my head.

"Yes. We were over with the fact that I cannot call you Stellan in office."

He gave me a bored look.

"I am an intern so I call you Mr. Walker. No arguments there. And stop sending me looks. I swear I saw Ms. Kelly wink at me." I gave him an incredulous look as he laughed.

"And you are worried because...."

"Well, for starters, she would totally find out about us. And two, I swear on earth, I am already getting enough glares for being your friend. Once you're supposed fans find out we are dating, they might as well kill me with their eyes." I gave off a sigh as he pulled me towards himself.

"You might as well get used to it."

"Your legion? Well, I am. But it takes time. Spare me till then." I looked at him and cocked an eyebrow.

"Well.....if you insist, I can try."

He could but his eyes said otherwise.

Laughing at the way we could practically have a full blown conversation through our eyes, I chuckled and bumped my nose with his.

"So, how can I help you Mr. Walker?"

He acted of thinking a little until a smile adorned his face.

"I can think of one thing."

Next thing I know is his lips on mine.

Damn my rule.

There was no use arguing him. I could not control my own self in his hands.

I pulled him closer and we continued to kiss till were breathless.

"One rule. That's all." I looked at my culprit from my hooded eyes and he flashed a smile.

"You are my girlfriend. I can kiss you anywhere. And the rule is plain stupid." I gave him a bored look. His mouth descended to my ears as he whispered ever so softly.

"At least I am kissing you in secrecy. Or the people won't be able to handle the sight of just how much you crave me. And you don't say no to a starving woman." I felt his breath fan my ears when his eyes returned to mine and god was this man starving.

It's official. My boyfriend in no less cunning!

"I crave you?" I asked him innocently.

He didn't answer but just shrugged.

I smirked.

"Hell yes I do!" I pulled him closer and kissed him with all in me.

I could forget the rule for some time.

I was hungry right now.

After our long make out session, it took me minutes to be back to normal. Normal as in with my hair done and no blush and no swollen lips. Stellan did not even care to tousle back his hair. He said it was a mark of my territory to keep the other females away. He is way too cheeky.

I walked back and started working and researching. People did not question me. Now either they knew what happened or they could care less.

Sending my final command to print before lunch, I walked to the farthest corner of the floor to get the prints. The printing machine was way up the corner and in a secluded region. I could hear my own steps as I walked and gathered the prints. With my back facing the door, I looked at the prints when I felt a hand on my waist. I stiffened.

"Hello Ophelia." I knew that voice.

Bryan Keller was back.

"Missed me, sweetheart?" He whispered in my ears and I dropped the prints. Holding his hand on my waist, I turned around and pushed the scumbag off of me.

"Never touch me again." I gritted out. He was given a fucking warning.

"Oh, come on. I thought you would be over it by now. Last time, you were in denial, but I know you want me." I could see the lust in his eyes.

"I am sorry if I haven't made this very clear but I don't want you anywhere near me. So fuck off." I glared at him and would have walked past him hadn't he pulled my hand.

"You kiss Stellan with that mouth?" He smirked at my narrowed eyes.

"Shut up." I growled back.

"It's clear to the eyes who want to believe it. You both are way too close to not be together and the guy likes you too much." I shook my hands away from him and crossed my arms.

"What do you want?" I was losing my patience. If he doesn't move, I am not even going to regret getting him in a hospital.

"Nothing other than you."

Was he serious?

"I am sorry to say that you can not always have what you want." I hissed as he laughed.

"I always liked your feisty side. That's your charm Ophelia. And I don't see what you find in him. Come to me. I am much more of a man you need."

Anger filled my veins and my hands curled in a fist.

"I don't need you asshole." I slapped his approaching hand away.

He smirked.

"You won't know until you have me."

And the next thing happening is him pulling me closer. It was so quick and swift. He kissed my jaw and his lips were mere inches away from mine but I acted quick too.

He thought I would give in.

Stupid bastard!

I pushed him back and punched him straight in the jaw.

Enough of his crap.

He staggered back as I sent another punch but he caught my hand and twisted it.

"You bitch." He snarled back.

It was an easy lock. I twisted my hands, catching his own and twisted too. And I was out of it.

"I said do not touch me."

Not waiting another second, I bent low and kicked his knee, misbalancing him for a second. I went for another punch, a strong one to his gut.

My next aim was his nose, but before I could decorate his face with a lovely broken nose, someone pulled me back.

I could feel his presence but he wasn't the one holding me back.

I knew it was Alice who was holding me back, not allowing me to move any forward. I was burning with anger. Trembling probably but thank god she stopped me because I would have killed him.

But it wasn't just my anger burning up the room.

I could see Stellan's stiff posture taking steps towards a backing off Bryan. I couldn't see Stellan's eyes because his back was to me but if the fear in Bryan's eyes was any true, Bryan Keller was a dead man.

My punches were enough but Stellan sent another and Bryan went staggering back.

"HOW DARE YOU TOUCH HER? How dare you lay a finger on my woman?" He was thundering. Roaring like the lions declaring their territory.

Bryan still had guts. He glared back at Stel.

"She had it coming."

Did he have a death wish?

Stel pushed him to the wall while Alice continued to hold me back.

"What did you just say?" Stel asked as calm as ever.

Oh calm he was! Like the calm before the storm.

Bryan chuckled but the fear never left his eyes.

"That pretty little thing can't go unnoticed to the eyes, Walker. But why fight over her? I am sure you are having your sweet, little night time with her. Let me have some of my own."

Big mistake.

A very big mistake.

I could feel the anger bursting right through Stellan. Hell, even Allison's gripped tightened on me.

He pulled him by the collar.

"Even think about her and I will come to you after hell. You go after her and I come after you!" And then Bryan was pushed to the floor. Stellan went on top of him and started beating him up.

Keller fought back but Stellan seemed impossible to stop. I never saw him fight but now that I do, I don't think I would want to be at the recieving end. I might just take him down any other time, but right now, he wasn't a force to be reckoned with.

Fortunately, Keller gets to be the victim. And I fear this might turn worst than it was ready.

The commotion increased as numerous other people now suddenly flooded the scene.

Chaos calls crowd.

Ophelia Hale calls chaos.

Some gasped while others just watched. I saw Ian and his assistant finally pulling away Stellan. His own knuckled bloodied. Some maybe his own, some maybe Keller's.

Ian held Stellan back as Keller, disheveled and somehow conscious, stood up, nursing his broken nose. I knew that Stellan would lose it again and so I took a few step forward, assuring Alice I was okay. She let go off me as I moved towards them.

"I warned you. I told you to stay away. But you never learn Keller. You don't touch a woman without her consent." He charged again but I pushed him back, my hand on his wildly rising and falling chest.

"Stop." I glowered at Stel.

He glared back but I held him with enough force.

But Bryan can't fucking stop.

"Coward." He muttered.

He was out of his mind.

I clenched my jaws but pushed Stellan back once again.

"Shut the fuck up Keller. You should be counting your last breathes now." I bit back at Bryan without looking at him.

He laughed.

"So loyal. Such a fire you are! She burns quite good. But bites as well. Remember to keep your bitch on a leash, Walker."

Stellan took a sharp breath and glared back at me.

"Sorry babe! Can't let this one go." He pushed my hand aside and pushed Keller to the wall again, his head hitting the wall. Keller tried to regain his strength before Stel threw him back to the wall again. He was furious. I had never ever seen Stellan so angry. He was livid and he was raging. Raging like a storm to take the next ship down. And it scared me.

And then I saw Bryan fall to the floor, his bloodied face void of any signs of consciousness.

I knew Stellan would kill him without a second thought. And I was not yet ready to carry the blame of another death. I hugged him from the back. He suddenly stiffened.

"Just stop." I whispered.

But it was enough for him.

Maybe it was my touch or maybe the desperation in my voice. I held him tight as he dropped his hands. His breathing slowly down.

Bryan was already unconscious on the floor.

"Take him out. Take him out before I lose it. Again."

The security quickly ushered him out as Ian went to fly the crowd away. It was lunch time. There were anyway less people. Some who got a wind of the shouts came here.

It was lunch. Probably Alice came looking for me and called Stellan. Or maybe someone heard my shouts. Or they just saw the cameras.

I didn't care though. Right now, I had a bigger problem in my hands.

I glanced at Allison and she nodded at me. I simply blinked. Enough for her. She slowly sauntered out of the room.

Then I felt Stellan hands find mine with my cheek still placed on his back and my hands around his waist.

I could feel the liquid blood on my hand and I realized he was hurt too.

I unclasped my hands and walked in front of him, taking his hands in mine. I didn't look at him though.

I just...couldn't.

"You are hurt." I whispered as he winced when I touched his hand.

"It's fine. I j-"

"Let's get you cleaned up." I didn't let him complete and I held his hand, dragging him out of the messed room.

I continued to drag him to his office. He didn't hold back, moving just in sync with me.

The few lingering people gave us confused and worried looks but I paid no attention.

We walked to his office and once we entered, I closed the door and told him to take a seat.

"Where is the first aid?" I said, my eyes searching the massive office with his name on the table. The office had one wall of complete glass, overlooking the busy streets of Brooke Falls, the 23rd floor of the building giving a huge view of the city. In the middle sat his table and papers neatly placed on top. One corner had all the files stocked in a ceiling high cupboard while the other had a rectilinear sofa. The smooth carpet covered the whole floor.

He hesitated for a second but knew it was useless fighting me. He simply signaled to the attached washroom. I walked in and got the kit.

He was sitting on the linear sofa, his eyes watching my every move. I went to him and took a seat on the sofa, taking his hand in mine.

I started cleaning the wound with him wincing once in a while. I was solely concentrated on cleaning his wound although I could feel him burning holes in my head.

"I am not that hurt."

Is he kidding me right now?

I intentionally pressed on the wounds a little harder, earning a wince.

"Is that not hard enough? Or should I just press harder for your realization?" I glared back at him and then looked away.

"You are angry."

I didn't answer. I simply bandaged his hand and packed the kit back when I was finally done. I kept it in the washroom cupboard and moved out.

I stood there for a few seconds, my head hurting even more with every growing second. Sighing and rubbing my forehead, I finally looked at Stellan.

And finally had I looked at him after all the commotion.

And all I wanted to do was curse. But neither had I had the energy nor did the guy deserve it.

"You lost it Stellan." I said with just as strong grip as I could have on my voice. It was firm and he knew it.

"I wouldn't want it any other way." He gave me a look I knew very well. A look that simply meant that he wasn't backing down as well.

"You almost killed him for god's sake." I whispered looking anywhere but him.

He sighed and stood up, taking a few steps towards me.

"He touched you." His warm hands found mine and our fingers enlaced.

"There are thousands of men who are going to touch me wrong, Stellan. You cannot always protect me. I have to do it myself." I looked back at him, my vision threatening to blur under his strong gaze but I drank back the tears.

"I know what you are capable of. I know how dangerous and lethal you can be, love. But in my presence, no man going to touch you wrong." He pulled me by my waist until his forehead was on mine.

"But you almost killed him. I carry the guilt of killing one man. I cannot carry the guilt of another. And nor the fact that it was me who forced you to do something wrong."

I knew what it felt to carry that burden all along. I carried it for years. I still do and I do not wish it for anyone.

"It would be me. It would have been all me had I killed him."

Trust Stellan to forever take the blame. I shook my head.

"No, it wouldn't be. He did wrong and I retaliated back. I would have handled him. Might have given him the beating he required but I don't want you to do that. I don't want the light in you to freeze because of me." He looked at me and I knew he was confused.

I chuckled as a tear left me eye.

"That's why I was hesitant to be in a relationship. I knew I liked you but I couldn't let you die in the same darkness as me. You don't get it, Stel. But I call chaos. I am chaos. I have always been. And it won't ever leave me. My fate is so designed that I somehow lose everything to that darkness that lurks inside and I can't lose you. I can't survive losing you. And today, I almost did. You held him because of me and if he died, it would have been me. If you would be arrested and gone, it would have been all me. So get it when I say it Stel. I am not good for your health." I gave him a sad smile.

He looked at me for a second before he gave me a sweet, small kiss. It wasn't a long, toe curling kiss but it was just as magical. Just as reassuring as ever. He said a thousand words. Made a thousand unsaid promises and tied me down.

"You are right. You are chaos. You might call chaos. But you are my chaos. My beautiful chaos."

How am I supposed to stay angry or firm with him?

"Stel it's n-"

He put a finger to my lip.

"Whatever you are, however you are, I love you, Ophelia. With every living cell in me. And I wouldn't change anything about you for the world. I knew I lost it. I knew I should have been rational but damn me and my anger when someone hurts my people. I would have beaten him senselessly even if he touched any other girl. Keller altogether is against all my ethics."

I knew just how good hearted he was. And would be just as dangerous when it came to what he believed.

And I saw that side of him today. It was a hint of what he was just as capable of doing as joining the spare parts of his new device. And although he wouldn't let me be hurt, he would never know when he gets hurt in the process.

"I know you would have killed him for any other woman but I don't know about the hatred that you would have for him. For killing isn't simply hating someone. Hating is far worst. And right now, you probably hate him just as much as you love me."

I put my arms around his neck and my forehead on his chest, closing my throbbing eyes.

"Don't do that to yourself even for anyone. Even for me. I don't want the only Sun in my life to burn out." I looked back at him to find him smiling.

"You don't say such things to a boyfriend with his girlfriend in his arms after he just beat a guy over the fact that she is just his."

I chuckled slightly.

"I am no one's."

He shook his head.

"Might not be but you are just as close. And I am just as much yours. And I don't think you are capable of giving someone darkness, love..."

He placed a firm kiss on my forehead.

"....not when the only thing I see in you is my light."

That teased off my tension.

I knew this man. And I knew just how much I wanted him too.

I quickly embraced him as his hand wrapped around mine.

"Next time, give him a more solid punch in the guts."

His body shook with laughter.

"There's the woman I fell in love with."

There were a thousand things to worry about.

A thousand things that could go wrong.

But if I was meant to be here at the moment in his arm, I couldn't be any happier.

"That's just how my love is. My heart is like the sea. It has it's own storms and it's own tides. But in the depth has it's pearls too. The pearls that already belong to you. I love you, Ophelia Hale. And no force in the world can change that."

I smiled at his words.

It was a matter of time.

A matter of time before I said those three words back.

And maybe my broken self was already being mended by those three words everyday.
