Chapter One
I wake up with the alarm clock blaring by my head, interrupting the peaceful dream I was having. It was the first I had in months since the accident. Opening my eyes, I guessed where the alarm clock once and slammed a fist on the table, feeling wood instead of plastic. By the third try I finally hit it, hearing the alarm shut off. I took a moment to enjoy the silence, hearing muffled movement in the kitchen.
I began searching for my glasses, feeling them on the wood floor. My room finally came into focus, the sun barely peeking from behind the curtains. Ever since a few months back my roommate took a lot of things out of my room, posters included. I just had a bed, dresser, and bedside table.
"Hey foods ready." My roommate came in, knocking lightly just beforehand. I let out a groan, covering my head with my pillow. I heard the sound of curtains opening, then the pillow was taken from me. I closed my eyes and hissed, hearing him let out a sigh.
"It's going on 10 am Tyler. Me and Steve need to make sure you're up before we leave," he scolded, voice not as nearly disappointed as it should be. With each day he sounded worse than my mom. "I've already called the station telling them I'm coming in late. Even if I'm their best detective they will fire me."
"Then leave me to die," I mumbled, finally opening my eyes. He had his arms crossed over his uniform, but didn't look mad, more so concerned. He and Steve were opposites when it came to, 'taking care', of me. He was patient and walked on eggshells while Steve was quick to snap.
"We're not doing this every morning."
"Then give up on me."
"Tyler."
"Kyle."
"Both of you!" Steve appeared in the doorway, looking exhausted. Kyle backed out of my room, putting his hands up in surrender. Steve watched him leave before looking at me, looking frustrated.
"Get up and get ready. Benny is coming by to pick you up to go see Dr. Soro. And don't you dare forget you medicine. I'll be at the station with Kyle." With that Steve left the door frame, walking back towards the main area.
I sat up and looked towards my closet, narrowing my eyes. I was surprised Steve even let me keep the door on it. I got up and went over to it, opening it and pulling my outfit out for the day. Getting dressed, I peeked my head out of my doorway, seeing no one. I walked along the edges of the floor, where the floor would less likely creak. It was an old habit that would die hard. I made it into the bathroom and looked in the mirror, scrunching up my nose in disgust.
Everything about myself was terrible, the only good thing was that I was going blind. Though it was more reasons for my roommates to treat me like a kid. Looking down, I saw the fluorescent orange bottle by the sink, mocking me. Steve would be able to tell if I took one or not.
