Chapter Eleven
"Anna and Mathew," Mr.H. calls.
"Yes?" I ask as we went up to him.
"I don't have the project from last week and I need it in the grades." He says and looks up from his computer.
"I emailed it to you."
"So did I," Matt says. The teacher looks confused.
"Let me check again." He says and started sorting through his mail. "I can't find either of them."
"I'll send it again," Matt grabs his laptop. "It sent." Mr. H looked through his mail. "It's not here."
"Let me see your laptop," I say to Matt. He hands it over. "It's messed up because of the server, you'll have to go to the library," I say and give Matt his laptop back.
"I'll try mine." I grab my laptop. "Is this your email?" I asked and turned the laptop to Mr.H.
"No, there's two rs in Harris."
"Oh, that's the email I used before so it probably went to someone else," I say and put the right email in. "There did it go through?"
He looked again "Yep."
"Ok, thanks, sorry about not getting it on time."
"It's fine, just make sure you can take that test in a month."
"I will," I say and walk back to the desks.
"I can't believe I didn't check to make sure it went through," Matt says looking at his laptop and shaking his head.
"At least he let us put it in and get a grade on it!" I say not really caring and close his laptop. "You should bring it down to the library to get it fixed so you don't get in trouble again."
"Ya, good idea." He walks up to the teacher.
"Hey Anna." Someone says. I turned around to see Nate.
"What do you want?" I annoyedly ask that he was talking to me. Guy doesn't seem to get when someone doesn't want to see his ugly face.
"So I heard that Matt stayed at your house the other night." He says smirking.
"Ya, his roommate needed the house because his family was coming over," I say not knowing where this was supposed to go. I don't understand why he would even care anyways.
"Right, slut." He said and then poured his girlfriends coffee on me. "Oops sorry."
"You jerk," I say standing up and going to the bathroom. "I had to wear white, I couldn't have worn black or even brown, no it had to be white," I grumble to myself. After about 10 minutes of trying to get the coffee out, I go to my locker. "Fudge. I brought my gym clothes home yesterday." I whispered to my self. I don't have any extra clothes with me.
Anna: Do you have anything I could wear, Nate pored coffee on me and I don't have spare clothes
Rosie: No, just a tank top, but it's small for your top
Anna: Darn it, oh well
Rosie: Sorry
Anna: It's not your fault it's just sucks
Rosie: Ya I know, gotta go
"Great," I mumbled to myself. It looks like I'm going have to wear a stained shirt all day and it's only second period. He calls me a slut, obviously, he doesn't know the girls he dates. I start walking back to the room when I trip on a chair in the hallway and then ran right into the wall stubbing my toe. "Owww, again really," I grumble and grab my foot because I keep stubbing the same damn toe.
"That's was funny to watch," Matt says as he comes towards me.
"Shut up," I say and put my foot down wiggiling my toes.
"Hey, it's not my fault your clumsy." He says and put his hands up.
"I'm not clumsy it just the walls hate me the chairs and floors are bullies and the tables hate me too," I say defending myself.
"Ok, keep telling yourself that clutz." I just roll my eyes. "Oh, hey and thanks for letting me stay at your place because of Zach."
"Ya about that, apparently I'm a slut for doing that," I say laughing a little. Matt stop died in his tracks though. "What?"
"Who said that?"
"Nate? Why?" I ask confused, it wasn't like I blamed him for it. I've been called that before and much worse, it didn't hurt me.
"I'm going to kill him." He says and starts walking away with a determined look.
"Wait, stop. Why?" I ask grabbing his arm and then standing in front of him.
"Because he has no right to be spreading rumors about things he doesn't know." He explains without even looking at me.
"It doesn't matter, I know who I'm am and I don't care what people think of me," I say still confused on why this bugged him so much.
"Yes it does, he had no right to call you that." He says running his hands through his hair.
"What's really bugging you?" I ask knowing there was more to this.
"Nothing." He argues and tries to go around me.
"Your lying," I say and staying in front of him. He doesn't even look at me. "Talk to me."
"Why? You don't talk to me and you continue to push me away?" He angry says, but after he said it he looks like he wished he could take it back. " Sorry I jus-" I cut him off by putting my hand up.
"Don't." I say and then the bell rings. I run and hide in the crowd of people. I know I didn't open up to him, but I didn't think he would bring it up like that.
Lunch
"Hey what's up? Is it about your shirt?" Rosie asks while eating.
"No, it's nothing," I mumble even though I was not paying attention and my shirt was still messy and it smelt like coffee.
"There something."
"No, just tired."
"Your lying to me." She says and bumped my elbow.
"It's just Matt said something to me and I keep thinking about it," I say confessing.
"What, did he confess to something?" She asks excitedly making me confused.
"No, he won't tell me something and then said that I never talk to him so why should he." Her expression dropped but got over it quickly.
"Oh, well we have math with him."
"So?" I ask looking at her confused.
"Talk to him then." She says like it was nothing. She doesn't understand, he's always happy. He's never really been mad at me.
"I don't know. I might talk to him tomorrow."
"Ok, if you say so. Oh, come on we have to get to class." She says looking at her phone.
"I'll meet you there."
"Ok." She says a little unsure. I get up and dump my tray, it only had a cup of water and some veggies. I went around the corner but someone grabbed my hand and pushes me into a closet.
"Let go of me," I say trying to get my hand back, but not start a panic attack.
"It's fine it's just me." I hear Matt's voice.
"What the hell?" I yell as he let my hand go, there were no lights on so I couldn't see him.
"I needed to talk to you."
"Ok, well why did you have to scare me in the process?" I ask trying to see where he was and calm my breathing down.
"I wanted to make sure you would talk and not run away."
"Ok, what do you want to talk about?"
"Earlier this morning, I'm sorry about what I said. I know you don't trust people and I just-"
"It's fine I understand why you said it," I say, still trying to find any light.
"You do?" He asks confused.
"Ya, I haven't told you much about anything and then I go and ask you to open up to me," I say turning around because he's right behind me. I can feel his breathing and can tell because of his voice. He must have pushed me into the closet further than I expected.
"Ya, about that. It gets to me because of my cousin Tina...He knew her when he was in high school and had kept bullying her. He'd call her all these names and the favorite one was calling her a slut....After everything that was happening she'd...She committed suicide because of it...So when I heard that he said that to you it just really pissed me off." He explains and I hear him slide against the door. I assume he sits down.
"Sorry," I say and sit next to him. We both know we're going to be late, but neither of us moves.
"It's fine I just get mad when he bullies people especially my friends." He says and she grabs his hand trying to comfort him.
"Ya, I can see why." They stay quiet for a little until she speaks up again, "You know if someone sees us it's not going to help our case." I say trying to get off the topic of his cousin and lighten the mood a little.
"Ya, and I think we're going to be late for class." He says and stands up. I stand up, but tripped on I think was a broom and fall right into Matt.
"Oww, stupid brooms," I grumble and rubbed my nose which hit him right in the chest.
"Are you ok?" Matt asked and grabbed my shoulders.
"No, your chest broke my nose and I twisted my ankle," I say laughing a little, but I feel something wet dripping from my nose.
"Why are you laughing then?" He asks slightly concerned.
"Because I'm so clumsy," I say and open the door. The light makes me squint at first before my eyes can adjust.
"Your nose is bleeding." He says concerned.
"No, I didn't know that," I say sarcastically, and roll my eyes.
"Come on let's go." He says and heads towards the bathroom.
"You can't go in there."
"Everyone's in class, I'll be fine." He says and walks right into the girl's bathroom. "See." He says cockily.
"Whatever can you just hand me paper-toweling." After going through a ton of paper-toweling, my nose stops running. "I think it's done," I say washing my hands.
"Let me see." He says and turns my shoulders. He grabs my head and looks to see if my nose was still bleeding. "I think you're good, but what happened to your shirt?" He asks and lets go of my face. His hands were really warm, it was kinda nice, wait what did he say?
"What did you say?"
"Why is your shirt all messy?"
"Oh, Ya, in science when Nate came over he pored his girlfriends coffee on me and I don't have another shirt to change into so I'm stuck with this one."
"I have a sweatshirt, it might fit you." He said thinking.
"I don't know, it'd have to be really tight on you, you are quite a bit taller than me." He looks at me and smiles.
"Ya I know, but it's really tight on me and it's better than that." He was still smiling.
"I'll try it," I say and we walk out of the bathroom. Once we go to his locker he couldn't get it open. "What's your combination?" I ask and push his hand away from his lock. He looks at me funny. "I'm not going to remember it, just tell me."
"Fine but if I'm missing anything I'm going to you." I just nod my head."26-12-08" I did his combination, it didn't work, he looks happy. I try it again, but his time it opens.
"Haha, now you can wipe that grin off," I say and open his locker, it was a big mess and papers came out. "How can your locker be this messy and how do you know if your missing anything?" I ask pointing to the mess.
"I just shove things in there and I would notice if something important was missing." He claims and moves things around until he finds the sweatshirt."Here, try it. It's shouldn't be too big."
I put it on, it was long, but I fixed that and the sleeves were right. "It's good just a little baggy."
"Good thing you have long arms." He says and I just nodded my head. "That's the second sweatshirt you stole from me." He says with a wink. I was going to reply but then a teacher calls to us, "You two come here." We both went. "Why are you two out of class?" Why would they care? They get the money whether we're in class or not.
Before Matt could say anything I say, "I got a bloody nose and he helped me."
"That took 20 minutes?" She asks not believing what I told her.
"Ya, because it wouldn't stop and then she had to go to her locker to get her sweatshirt because someone spilled coffee on her," Matt says joining the conversation.
"Ok, but if you get a bloody nose tell a teacher next time." She says and turns, we're about to leave when she asks, "Where are you going?"
"Counseling."
"Mrs.Rs," Matt adds. Shen nods her head and then waves us off. "Miss lier."
"I didn't lie you did. You said my sweatshirt and that we went to my locker, that's not my locker so ha."
"True but you didn't tell the whole truth."
"She never asked so I'm good." He just shakes his head. He goes to his locker and I was going to go to mine but he couldn't get it open. I go over and open it on the first try. I laugh a little.
"How do you do that?" He asks annoyed.
"I'm magical," I say and winked. After I go to my locker to throw my dirty shirt in, I go to my class. The professor just looked at me when I walked in, told you they don't really care. There were only about 10 minutes left of class so I just read my book not really wanting to pay attention. And Rosie kept asking me questions on why I was late, but I just said I had to go somewhere.
