Chapter 1

Before I begin this story I would just like to say this is completely fictional. Yes, it's true some sociopaths can commit horrible crimes such as murder. But, that's not true for all sociopaths. There are many successful sociopaths living completely normal lives with friends and family. So please, whenever you see or hear "sociopath" don't automatically think "criminal" or "murderer".  That's all I have to say just so I don't get hate for "giving sociopaths a bad name" or something. Please read and enjoy!

Sociopaths are common in today's society. They are merely people with antisocial personality disorder. They are incapable of feeling intense emotions, such as anxiety or remorse. Most are able to live their lives fully without any problems, having exceptionally normal lives. Others, though, may take their lack of emotion to the extreme and commit serious crimes.

Kim Namjoon has taken his disorder to the extreme. He is an infamous serial killer known by all as "The Monster" in South Korea. His lack of emotion has driven him to insanity, abling him to kill without feeling any guilt or shame. The only feeling he knows and loves is the buzz of adrenaline he gets while killing someone, watching the life drain from their pleading faces.

It's as if seeing all the blood and pain is his only escape. His escape from the real world, the world where no one will ever accept him because of his disorder. If they didn't want to accept him, then he'd stop trying to get them to. Instead, he wants them all to fear him. He wants everyone to tremble at the mention of his name, wondering if and when they will be his next target. This was much more fun. It is much more fun than struggling to fit in where he knows he does not belong

Namjoon feels that adrenaline increasing as he listens to the woman in front of him scream. She is screaming for help, for mercy, for everything the murderer isn't willing to give her. Her hysteria brings a wicked smirk to Namjoon's lips as he traces his knife slowly along her skin. He moves it across her neck, up and down her arms, anywhere her body isn't covered with her clothes. The knife slides back up to her neck as she sobs uncontrollably.

This has been going on for a bit too long, Namjoon thinks as he quickly and precisely slits the poor woman's throat. She chokes and bleeds out profusely, all over herself and the grinning criminal. Namjoon sighs as the warm liquid covers him, realizing he made a mess and would have to clean up quickly. Once he removes his clothes, throws them in the fireplace to burn, and changes into a new outfit, he turns to leave. Before he leaves, he remembers to wipe anything he touched with a cloth to get rid of his fingerprints, and then throws that in the fire also. He then takes one look back at the dead woman staring at him lifelessly from the chair she is tied to, and rushes out of the abandoned cabin.

Namjoon gets in his car and drives away as fast as possible, knowing the cops were looking for that woman. He had captured her and brought her to that cabin three days ago, which means there is definitely a search party going on for her now. Once he feels he is at a safe distance away from the cabin he slows down and continues driving for a few hours.

This is how his life goes. He finds a place to settle down for just a little while, maybe a few months at tops. He spends that time meeting new people, searching for his next target. Once he finds one it's simple. He kills them. After that, he flees to another city far away to restart his routine. Sometimes along the way he'll have random bursts and just kill on the way to a new city, such as with that woman. He hadn't planned on kidnapping her and murdering her, but he did. There's no going back now, he thinks, as he carries on driving.

So many people believe Namjoon to be a heartless monster. His name to the public- because they don't know his real name- is even "The Monster". The thing is, he knows even if he wasn't a killer he would still receive labels such as that. Being a sociopath leads to people judging him before they get to know him. They automatically think of him as an empty, cold shell of a human being. Now, they're right. The sociopath has driven himself to that stage, along with the help of all the judgemental people in the world.

After driving for about three hours from leaving the cabin Namjoon arrives in a place called Anyang. He looks around for a little while and finds a small apartment complex. It wasn't too run down, but it wasn't too fancy either. The criminal didn't want to stand out in any way. He parks his car in the small parking lot and enters the building. The older man at the front desk looks very bored, and pays Namjoon no mind when he walks in until he is right in front of him and coughs to get his attention.

"How can I help you?" he says monotonously.

"Are you the landlord of this complex?" Namjoon replies calmly.

"Yes, I am. Are you going to rent a room?" he asks.

They go through the process of renting an apartment rather quickly, and Namjoon pays his first month's rent in cash right there. He always takes odd jobs wherever he's staying to save up money for his next move. The man takes the money happily and hands Namjoon his little gold apartment key.

Namjoon walks up the stairs to his room and enters. He puts his small suitcase full of clothes in the bedroom and goes back out into the main area. He always travels light, only bringing multiple changes of clothes just in case he gets a bit... messy. The apartment may be furnished, but the only objects in there are furniture. The murderer knows he has to go shopping to get food and other necessities, so he grabs his wallet and exits his room, locking the door behind him.

Just as Namjoon is leaving his room someone else is unlocking the door across from his. The mystery man turns when he hears the click of Namjoon's lock. The sociopath is taken aback by the sight infront of him. This boy in front of him may be the prettiest thing he's ever seen. His light brown hair looks as smooth as silk, his dark brown eyes are shining joyfully, and his lips are so big and plump.

Namjoon shakes his head forcefully to break himself from this foreign thoughts. He's never seen anyone and thought anything like that before. It felt weird, almost as if he shouldn't be thinking that way. The sociopath didn't like it one bit.

"Hi, I'm Kim Seokjin! Did you just move in across from me?" the beautiful boy asks politely.

"Uh, yeah I did. I'm Kim Namjoon," Namjoon replied once he found his voice.

"Well, nice to meet you. I assume you're going somewhere, so I'll let you go. We can get to know each other later," Seokjin smiles widely before entering his own apartment.

Namjoon quickly exits the complex and walks down the road to the small market he saw while he was driving earlier. It only takes him five minutes to get there and he focuses on the shopping to get his mind off that man. He doesn't understand the effect Seokjin had on him just a little bit ago. It was completely new to him, and the sociopath doesn't know how to handle it.

A little while after Namjoon gets back to his apartment and unpacks, he hears a knock on his door. Wondering who on Earth it could be, he's a bit cautious in opening the door. He doesn't feel nervous or anxious- he can't- but he's not dumb and knows when to be careful. When he opens the door, though, he sees that it's only Seokjin.

"Hi, sorry to bother you but I figured if we're going to be neighbors we might as well get to know each other! I brought cookies as a little housewarming gift I suppose. They're my own recipe," Seokjin says cheerfully.

"Okay... sure," Namjoon mumbles as he opens the door wider for Seokjin to enter.

He closes the door and they both go to sit on the couch in the middle of the room. It's an awkward silence at first, but Seokjin is very personable and easily sparks up a conversation.

"So, how old are you, Namjoon?" he asks.

"I'm twenty-three. How old are you, Seokjin?" Namjoon responds.

"I'm twenty-five. Oh, and you can just call me Jin if you want. That's what everyone calls me," is Jin's answer.

"Okay then, Jin, what do you do for a living?" Namjoon asks the pretty boy next to him.

"I'm a teacher over at the elementary school down the road. I just love kids! What about you?" Jin replies.

"That's nice. I like to travel a lot. I usually don't stay in one place for a long time, so I've never had a long-term job," Namjoon answers smoothly.

This isn't the first time the criminal has had conversations with other people about topics like this. He always makes "friends" wherever he moves just to seem normal. He usually befriends his targets, also, so they trust him and make his "job" easier for him. No one ever suspects him, which he is really lucky for.

"Oh, I see. Well maybe you'll like it here in Anyang so much you won't want to move again!" Jin says with a large grin.

"Hm, maybe I will," Namjoon replies softly.

For some reason, the criminal sounded more sincere than he's ever been. Granted, he's gotten pretty good at acting and lying over the years, but this was different. When he looked at Jin's wide grin and brown eyes sparkling with hope, he couldn't help but reassure the boy. They've only just met and Namjoon is trying to make him happy. He usually only really tries to make his targets like him. This isn't normal for him.

The two men sit and talk for a little while longer, learning more about each other. Namjoon knows things about Jin he usually doesn't bother getting to know about other people, such as when his birthday is and that his favorite color is pink. They end up eating all of Jin's cookies in the process of talking. Jin realizes he overstayed his welcome quite a bit and tells Namjoon he should go.

Namjoon wants to protest, but he knows he shouldn't. Instead he shows the older male to the door, thanks him for the cookies, and bids him goodnight. Namjoon feels really strange again after Jin leaves, and he really wants the feeling to go away.

A few hours later, Namjoon is in bed tossing and turning trying to get to sleep. Rain pours, thunder pounds, and lightning flashes outside which doesn't help at all. He can't stop thinking about that perfect boy who lives right across the hall from him. He's only just met him and Jin is taking up his mind. He has to figure out a way to stop feeling this way.

Namjoon lies awake in bed trying to make sense of this situation. He closes his eyes and thinks as the darkness swirls and dances under his eyelids. He can still hear the thunder outside and see the lightning through his eyelids. It's not exactly comforting as he tries and tries to think. The sociopath can only come up with one solution right then, at 2:00 am while the black of night surrounds him and the wind howls against his window.

Kim Seokjin is his next target.
