Ship's log: 18th April, 1770.

Calendar date: 19th April, 1770 (because the duffer forgot to adjust the date crossing the Equator).

As I wander the seven seas I wonder how much longer this dreary trip will take. In wishful imagination, through rearing, foamy waves I fancifully see a safe harbour, only to have my dreams shatter as we ride the next crest. I find it too hard to honestly absorb the truth. We are still days away from land.

Next morning he blinked and near missed — Australia!
