Cerberus
Cerberus
It's going to happen I know it.
The room was quiet as John went up to the front of the class. Mrs. Winston was watching him from afar as he took out his sword made of shining metal. John fingers gripped the handle tightly as he took his stance, getting ready for his beast.
A red portal appeared on the stone floor, John's eyes glowed red as well as his beast approached.
Two feet long nails appeared from the portal as the monster emerged from it.
It was hideous, pale gray skin with three crimson red eyes on the outline of its face. It had two holes for a nose and was completely bald. The creature was naked yet despite being humanoid, the beast had no reproductive organs.
The creature growled at John, showing it's sharp ragged teeth. Shivers went down my spine as I watched John get ready to slay his beast.
I never thought he would have this hideous creature in his mind, he was a social outgoing person, it didn't seem to fit him. However, I should not have assumed he didn't have it.
John's hands were visibly shaking as he faced his beast, but no later than a second he stood up straight and took a deep breath. He held up his sword with a determined attitude and waited for the beast to attack.
Once the creature did attack, I was surprised to see John so calm. The beast swung at him with its long arms but John cut its arms off in two swipes.
With just his third swing of his sword, John impaled his beast straight through the middle and killed it.
There was a silence as the creature slowly hit the ground in two halves, blue blood spilling over the ground.
The class erupted into a wave of commotion as they congratulated him on slaying his beast.
There was a spark in John's eyes as he smiled at himself and sat back down. The portal opened up again and swallowed every bit of evidence that there was a fight here. Even the blue blood of John's sword disappeared.
Of course, the beast wasn't dead, not truly. No one can ever fully kill their beast, it will always reappear so we can face it again and again.
"Nice job John, very surprising and violent," Mrs. Winston complimented him and turned to Betty who was already red with embarrassment, "You're up Betty."
After her it's me and I'm going to embarrass myself.
Betty was such a quiet person, kind and adorable, her voice even had a constant softness to it. The poor girl will surely have to face an enormous beast, she always seems so nervous and is constantly blushing like she is now.
Betty stood at the center like John had done but instead of taking out a sword, she knelt down and looked at the ground.
The whole class was watching in amazement as a pink portal opened from the floor. A beautiful gray wolf, four feet tall, emerged from the ground.
Instead of Betty's now pink eyes being filled with fear, she was calm as the creature faced her.
My heart raced as the beast snarled at Betty, it's teeth easily over two inches long. Its claws extended as it got ready to attack, but instead of panicking, even more, Betty smiled in the face of the wolf and took a deep breath.
She knelt down and extended her hand. The beast's eyes soften and it took a more calm approach towards her.
Betty chuckled as the beast nuzzled her hand and curled around her before laying down, it was protective.
Betty seemed to have a connection to her beast, she understood it and knew how to calm it down. There was no need for weapons, instead, she opted for a peaceful solution.
The portal appeared, again and again, took away everything before our eyes, leaving Betty alone on the floor.
"Excellent job Betty! I haven't seen anyone do this approach in a long time!" Mrs. Winston complimented Betty, leaving her blushing like mad again.
No no no no no, not me, please.
My heart raced against my chest as I silently pray that the teacher would skip me. That somehow she'll read my mind with her magic and let me be.
"You're next," Mrs. Winston pointed at me and waited for me to get up.
I pushed myself out of the chair and blushed a deep shade of red.
Was I walking weird? Am I in the same spot? I think they were a little to the right more.
I could feel the whole classes gaze on me as I got my sword out. The blade was dull and the handle was about ready to break off.
I can't do this, I'm not like them. I can't. I just can't!
A purple portal opened up from the ground. My hands were sweaty making the grip on my sword looser, which in turn made me shake uncontrollably, or perhaps I was shaking out of fear.
There was gasp in the classroom as my beast appeared. A 40 feet tall, three-headed dog named Cerberus.
The beast's growl shook the ground like a mini-earthquake and as a result, brought me to my knees.
I lifted my sword in anger and desperately tried to hurt the beast that has been following me all my life. Yet I was not special, everyone had a beast, whether it be small or big, we all had one.
Why do you always hold me back!
My sword broke as it hit the beast, not even inflicting a scratch on him! The blade fell to the ground and I lost contact with the handle as panic overcame me.
I'm scared, I'm scared, I'm terrified.
There was no time to escape as Cerberus lifted his paw and squashed me down. I couldn't breathe as I felt the entire weight of his paw on my back.
I gasped for breath but felt as I was breathing nothing at all. A couple of feet away from me was the broken blade of my sword.
I saw my reflection as tears went down my purple illuminates eyes.
Why am I like this? Why do I have this beast?
Suddenly the weight was off me as Mrs. Winston shut down the portal. She tried to hug me but I pushed her away angrily, I still couldn't breathe correctly and didn't want any contact.
I calmed myself down and found that the whole class was staring at me. Embarrassed I wanted to walk to my seat and put my head down but Mrs. Winston stopped me.
"Meet me outside," She said simply and I followed her out of the class and into the hallway.
"I'm sorry," I apologized and I blushed again at the scene I made in the classroom.
"No need to be sug, I didn't know you had an immortal as a beast." Mrs. Winston told me and I was puzzled.
"What's an immortal?" I questioned and she smiled at me softly with sad eyes.
"It's a beast that can't be killed, it's too big and it seems that your sword couldn't even make a dent."
"You mean I can never defeat it?" I cried out as I thought about how I couldn't live like this.
"I said you couldn't kill it."
"How do I defeat it?"
"Everyone is different, I'm afraid I can't tell you that, you have to figure it out for yourself."
I couldn't help the tears running down my face again, Mrs. Winston gave me a hug and I accepted it this time.
"Don't cry, It's okay that you can't handle this now."
"Really?"
"We all defeat our inner-beast at different times, and that is totally okay."
