Rewritten

"Well, isn't this an interesting turn of events?" 'Pidge' smirked.

"What-" Keith's confused outburst was silenced by a scared glance from Allura.

"What's going on?" Shiro asked, subconsciously activating his arm.

"Phase three is. Once phase three is complete, the green paladin will be gone. Her memories are slowly being rewritten, her happy moments replaced with despair and pain. Everything she is will be gone, so do take some time to say goodbye." Pidge taunted. Her eyes flicked from yellow to brown. She frowned and stumbled to the floor.

"Pidge? What's phase three?" Lance asked worriedly.

"I... I don't... My head." She whimpered, breathing heavily. She brought both hands to her temple, holding her head as she folded into a fetal position.

"Get her in a healing pod." Hunk said, and Allura scooped up the young paladin.

"No - her memories are being rewritten. We need to download her memories so that we can get her back."

"We're not going to lose her in the first place." Keith argued, but Coran backed the princess up.

"Allura is right. We cannot save her without losing a part of her. If we download her memories now, we will have a copy of her to reupload when we defeat whatever twisted version of her the Galra will make. But we have to hurry. The longer we take, they farther she strays from her original personality."

"Then let's go." Shiro commanded.

Lance stared at Pidge, hooked up to the many Altean space pads. He watched the sparkles of light that were her thoughts and memories trickle into a large glass tube. The whole team stared at it, especially Allura.

"That's all of it." Coran announced after what seemed like years of silence. He pressed a few buttons and a hologram of Pidge appeared in front of the tube.

"Where - what's going on?" She asked after a moment. She looked around at everyone, her gaze finally setting on her body.

Swear warning if you're sensitive to that:

"Shit, am I dead?" She gasped. Shiro let out a choked giggle. "Hey don't laugh at my dead body." She froze as Shiro looked her in the eyes.

"You're definitely not dead." Pidge smiled at his words.

"Hindsight is 20/20, huh?" Her brow furrowed suddenly. "Wait, if I'm a computerized rendition of my memories, do I need these glasses?" She pulled off her glasses, inspecting them in her hands. Hunk smiled.

"Maybe if you don't want to wear the glasses, you don't have to." He offered, wondering if that were true.

"Nah, I like them. They're a part of who I am now." She pushed the glasses back on her face as Coran brought her real body out of the tube.

"This ought to be interesting." Lance said worriedly. Pidge began to stir, her eyes twitching as she woke from her sleep.

(So I'm calling the altered Pidge "Pidge" and the memory Pidge "Katie")

"Hey, I'm waking up!" Katie said excitedly. "Wait, so why am I waking up? I thought the whole memory thing was only supposed to be used if you're dead." She questioned.

"Well, the galra possessed you somehow and they're changing your memories. We wanted to preserve you in case the damage turns out to be irreversible." Allura explained.

"We didn't want to lose you again." Keith said softly.

"You guys are so sweet. I love-"

"What the hell?" Pidge wrenched her eyes open. "What's going on?"

"What do we do?" Hunk panicked.

"Pidge, the galra are rewriting your memories. Stay with us!" Keith said. Pidge glared at him, then at Katie.

"What is that? Is that me? Why am I there?"

"Why am I there?" Katie retaliated, pointing at Pidge.

"I don't know, or I wouldn't ask! The galra haven't changed any of my memories yet. I would know." Pidge scoffed.

"You seem different, though. What's the last thing you remember?" Shiro asked.

"I remember thinking about the galra torturing me, then waking up here." Pidge answered carefully.

"She's lying - I was thinking about penguins. Specifically whether or not they exist in space." Katie stated.

"What do you mean, I was thinking? I am not you anymore. The galra have made me stronger. I am something new. And I was thinking about the galra torturing me - and how fun it will be to watch them do the same to you." Pidge threw back her head in a hyena-like maniacal laugh.

"Not on my watch." Katie said seriously, taking a moment before lunging at Pidge. Before she could phase through her own body, she disappeared and Pidge brought both hands to her head in a scream.

A/N - I meant to publish this last night right before I plugged in my phone. I guess it didn't publish, and since I didn't get to check it this morning, it's coming out now! Oh well. Tell me what you think - are you ready for Thursday's chapter?
