Chasing Twenty Two - Part 2

(Freya Milano)

I see there are not many people in the diner, 7 customers on the tables.  I’m about to step inside the diner and I don’t see Jamie coming out of the truck yet.  I hold the door before opening it and see once again to see if he’s changed his mind.  I shake my head in disbelief.  I storm inside the diner and scan the diner to see who’s going to be my first victim.  A blonde girl catches my eyes.

I walk up to her when it seems like she’s finished with her drinks.  This perfect timing makes me smile.  I sit on her booth right away and put my arm around her shoulder.  I make her look at my eyes and whisper when she’s about to freak out. “Don’t scream.  Get up and follow me.” She tidies up her stuff into her purse and does as I told her.  I get up at the same with my arm is still around her shoulder.

I lead her to an alley between the diner and a shop next to the diner. “Who are you? Why do I do as you say?” she sounds terrified but she can’t scream for help.  I shush her.  I have no patience for chitchat now.  I flip her to face me roughly that she almost stumbles forward but I catch her with my hands.

“It’ll sting hard but you cannot utter a word.” I toss away her hair to give enough space on her neck.  I caress the part where my thumb can feel the vein and wait for a second to glance at where Jamie’s truck is.  Not wasting another second, I bite her and sink in my fangs.  She jolts but I hold her with one hand around her back and the other around her head.

I feel so alive tonight with the stunt and now the blood.  I pause and find her crying.  I wipe the blood from her neck and calm her. The shock in her eyes upon seeing my lips red in blood trills me.  She looks so pale though.  I take her hand and continue by drinking from her wrist.  This will be the final bite and I’ll let her go to die slowly on her own cause of blood loss.

I lift my head when I hear that voice. “Stop! Stop it!” He’s running to where I am with the girl.  I smirk and wipe the little blood on the edge of my mouth.  He looks stunned for a while until he blinks his eyes and comes closer to me.  I knew he’d give up.

I look at the girl’ condition who’s unconscious now but she’s alive. “Good job Walker, you just saved a life.” I shove her to him like she’s nothing. “She’ll live.”

“We need to get her to her place or the hospital.  We can’t leave her like this in the street.” He’s carrying her in his arms right away.

I throw the keys to him and they fall on the girl’s stomach. “Go play hero by yourself and I’ll wait for you in my room.  I give you thirty minutes.  If you’re late, it won’t just be the whole diner; it will be chaos in that diner and the motel.  Remember Walker, don’t you dare to escape.  I never bluff.” I add before I leave. “Room 14, Walker.”
-----

My room feels colder than it is.  I take off my jacket and throw it on the bed.  I walk to a table and medium sized couch where there is bottle and glasses on the table.  I pour myself a drink then lie on the couch while still having the empty glass on my hand after I drink it.  I close my eyes, killing time with some thoughts about list of all the vampires who might be chasing after me.  Of course, Gabriel, the original, is on top of the list.  My head and heart hurt thinking about him.  I forget about the others out of sudden.

“Damn!” I break the small glass in my hands and the shattered pieces cut my hands.  I drop some pieces on the table and take out the smaller pieces that get into my hands.  I’ve finished taking out the last piece of glass on my hands when someone knocks on the door.  I blow on my hands.  They’re bleeding badly but starting to heal now.

I open the door and there he is, Jamie standing on the side of the door. “I’m here so what is it now?” he looks weary. His neat hair isn’t that neat anymore like he has raked his fingers through it few times. “Are you hurting yourself? You’re bleeding.” His eyes get wider and stare at my hands.

“I broke a glass unintentionally.  It’s fine.” I open the door wider for him to come inside. “Get in first.  Don’t get so uptight.  I mean no harm.” I walk into the bathroom to wash some blood on my hands.  I look on the mirror above the sink and find blood stain my top.  I’m going to need some change.

I step out of the bathroom to get my clothes and Jamie is just sitting on the couch.  He’s so not relaxed.  He sits like he’s on official dinner between the royals in the mansion dining room.  When he looks up and his eyes meet mine, I smile teasingly.  He looks away and sighs after few seconds of staring.  I take out some light t-shirt and knee length pants of my bag that is laid on the corner of the room.

“I need a change.  This top is blood stained and not my blood.” I say as I take off my top.  I unbutton and unzip my jeans then let them fall on the floor.  He instantly gets up and stands with his back against me. “It’s nothing you haven’t seen before.  You saw me like this the first time we met actually.” He stays silent on his spot with his hands on his jacket pockets.

“I’m not coming here for this.  You never take anything seriously.” He eventually opens his mouth.

“And you take everything so seriously as if it’s a death and life matter.” I walk up to him after I wear my clothes.

I sneak up to him from behind that he doesn’t realize because he seems too nervous to be aware of his surroundings.  I swing him and throw him on the bed.  He gasps roughly at the unexpected attack.  I climb on the bed and he drags himself to the back of the bed.  I chuckle when his head hits the headboard.

“So why are you really here Jamie?” I stop when I get on top of his thighs, locking him so he cannot move anymore.

He closes his eyes then opens them. “To get you home.”

“Why?” I lay my hand on his chest.  He catches it right the second I rest my hand on his heart to feel his heartbeat.  My left hand is going to touch his pelvis, taking chances but he catches it even before it touches him.  He holds both of my hands on the side now.

“I did it for your brother.  He may not admit it but I know he needs you.” He panics a bit when I try to move my hands under his hands.  I can actually flip his hands so easy but I like the feeling of his hands on mine.  His hands send heat that warms my hands through my skin.

His answer is unbelievable.  I can tell he covers some truth so I confront him. “If Alexander needs me he’d come looking for me.  If you said you did it for him, why didn’t you just tell him where I was instead of coming here by yourself?”

I smile showing some nice feeling and lean in closer to him.  Before he can open his mouth, I continue. “I’ve seen the way you look at me when you think I’m not looking.  That’s cute.  Jamie, I have my strong senses that even as careless as I appear to be, I’m aware of my surroundings almost 24/7.” I smirk playfully looking at his priceless shocked expression.  He tries to hide it but his pupils dilate. “So Jamie, why are you really here?”

There’s a silence for a while there when he must be thinking of what to answer.  It’s not an awkward silence though. “Just go home, Freya.  Think of why you came to Afton in the first place.  Actually think further way back of what would your parents would want you to do.”

His changing the subject really turns me off.  I pull my hands off under his hands, lift my leg one after another and climb off his lap. “You’re such a mood killer.  What a way to play safe, Walker.” I throw myself on the left side of the bed, lying next to him. “I think I’m done with you tonight.  You can go now.  I’m not coming home with you.”

He gets up and lets out a heavy breath.  He must have been holding his breath a little too long.  I drag myself to the edge of the bed and sit, watching him leave.  However, he stops right in front of the door.  He turns back and looks at me.  We’re just staring in silence until he opens up.

“I did come here for Alex.  He needed you more than you know.“ He rakes his fingers through his soft thick hair, looking away from my eyes but staring back at me after probably gathering some courage. “But more than that I came here for myself.  Freya, I need you.  I need you to come back.  I need my partner, my friend who accompanied me in the grill, the lake.  Afton has been so dull without you.”

That gets me speechless though I should have expected that.  I mean I was the one confronting him but I was just playing and didn’t really expect he’d actually pour his heart out like that.

“Though, I’m not going to force you to come home with me.  I just needed you to know that. “ He adds that as if he just reads my mind. “And I’m sorry again about your date.  I guess I should go now.  Goodnight.” He finally leaves but my mind is still processing what he just said.  He seems too nervous himself to stay there facing me after that little confession.  When I can think clearly and decide, I run to catch up on him.

“Jamie!” I find him walking on the alley in front of my room.  I quickly run to him as he turns around.  Once I’m close enough, I grab his face and pull him down closer for me to reach his lips.

The moment my lips crash his, he parts his lips, letting my tongue slide inside his mouth.  He feels so tender yet so full of passion and energy.  This escalates slowly but definite.  As we’re kissing, I feel ignited when his hands sneak around my back and pull me up to close the nonexistent gap between us as though he can’t just get close enough already to feel every part of me on him.  It feels like his heart and mine beating together with this much of closeness.

For the first time I can finally dip my fingers in his hair that’s indeed so soft and thick, I just want to keep fondling my hand in it while my other hand caressing his sideburn jaw.  His breath is strong that we devour each other like we’d never let go but he pulls back first, leaving me longing for more.  The way he retreats his hands from my back, through the sides of my body is like teasing.  However, his hands move to cup my face now, keeping me from another kiss.  I feel his breath on my lips.

“We shouldn’t have done that.  We can’t do this.” He whispers and pulls back a little, giving a space between our bodies. “What was that for?” his eyes are literally so wet like begging me to kiss him but also not to.

I caress his cheeks then to his jawline and say. “A goodnight kiss, to get you through your boring days without me.”

“So you won’t come back?” His loose hold gets tighter in a sudden and pulls me back closer with one hand on the back of my head, making our nose touch.

I smile. “I’ll think about it, partner.  I have something to do first, on my own.” I take off my hands of his face and touch his chest. “Goodnight, Jamie.  Be safe.  Don’t die on my absence.” I walk, leaving him while he’s still standing there in his spot, probably watching me leave till I get in my room.
