Chapter 43
The song is 'Till I Collapse by Eminem!
(Evans POV)
I run over to Jon who was breathing very heavy. I look over in the alley and see a couple dead bodies but no Brock, Hope, or Sydnee anywhere. I wrap his good arm and shoulder around my neck and help him up. I can already hear cop sirens in the distance.
"We have to go Jon." I start to help him to my car when another car pulls up next to it. One that I haven't seen before. I reach for my pistol in my waistband as Tyler, Brian, and Autumn get out of the car, guns drawn. That has to be Autumn's car, I haven't seen it before.
"They got both Brock and Hope, we have to get out of here, help me," I say as they lower their guns and run to my side. Autumn runs up to him and helps drag him to my car.
"I got it from here, I'll take him to the hospital, you three take my car and go get Hope and Brock," Autumn says as she puts Jon in the passenger seat.
"We don't have enough guys or guns or ammo. We'll all end up like Jon or worse." Brian says. I run my fingers through my hair, mumbling curse words underneath my breath. I'm never good at on the spot plans.
"We'll come up with something. We have to leave now, cops are here." Tyler says as he runs back to the driver's seat. I run to the passenger seat as Brian takes the back seat. Autumn was already peeling out of here while we were getting situated.
"Lui and Marcel are at the warehouse. Call them and tell them to get supplies ready, Brian. Evan text the rest of the guys to meet at the warehouse. Brock will protect Hope for however long it takes us." Tyler says as he follows the way that Autumn went. Thank god for Tyler's quick thinking.
"How did you know where we were?" I ask as I pull out my phone.
"Delirious actually. He told Autumn, Brian, and I where he was in case something happened to him. Brian and I were at the shoe store that was on the way to here so Autumn just picked us up. Evan, get the calls going come on." Tyler says, looking over at me. I'm never this distracted why am I now?!
"So you're telling me that this was Hope's idea? And... you oh I don't... just let her go by herself KNOWING THAT THESE DICKHEADS WERE OUT HERE LOOKING FOR HER?!" Craig said yelling at me. I ignored him as I continued strapping on my bulletproof vest.
"The least you can do is fucking say something to him Evan, it's partially your fault too," Tyler says with a sigh. The more time that we waste the more that could happen to both Brock and Hope.
"Okay I get it you two, I feel like the worst person ever. I wasn't expecting them to get fucking ambushed like they did. I thought if Hope couldn't hold her own, Del could help. Not to mention Brock was even there as well! Guys, the more time that we waste, the more bad things are going to come out of this." I was at my breaking point. I was about to just say fuck it and just go in by myself and do this, no matter the outcome. Brian comes rushing into the room with Lui close behind him.
"Lester was able to get ahold of both Hope's and Brock's phone signal. He says that the signal hasn't moved in about an hour or so." Lui says looking at us. He shows us his phone and as he turns around the two small red dots turn with him, almost like a radar.
"Good thank you. Get stocked up, we're leaving here in a few minutes." I say as I start to place bullets in my Assult Shotgun.
"Evan for god sakes we're down 3 people. We have no clue how many of Warrens men we're going to encounter. Not to mention that-" I stop reloading and turn to look at him.
"You can just sit this one out and then we'd be down 4 people. I thought you cared about her like you told me back in the hospital, or were you only trying to get in her pants?" Try to restrain yourself from killing him, Evan. He looks away from me as he starts to load his own Assult Shotgun with bullets. Good, he's coming, the more firepower the better.
"As much as I love fighting as the next guy, can we please speed this up? I'm just going to leave without you guys here in a few minutes." Brian says. He already had his bulletproof vest on and had at least three guns on him.
"ALRIGHT EVERYONE! IF YOU DON'T HURRY UP WITHIN THE NEXT FIVE MINUTES, WE'RE GOING TO FUCKING LEAVE YOU BEHIND." I yell out to everyone. We were on the road within the next two minutes.
(Brock's POV)
"Hm, she got wounded in that little gunfight, what a shame." Sydnee pushed her finger in Hope's gunshot wound at her side. Hope hissed in pain as Sydnee wiped the blood on Hope and walked away.
We were in some butchering factory. Dead and skinned animals were on hooks just like Hope and I. Except they weren't tied up and hanging upside down like we were. Chains wrapped around our feet hanging off of the hook and a tight cloth around our hands. Different machines were going off but the one that was most noticeable was the meat grinder. I stared at it, hoping we wouldn't meet its blades.
"I'm feeling lightheaded Brock," Hope says as she does her best to sit up. She yelps out in pain as she goes back to hanging upside down.
"Hey don't strain yourself too hard, alright? You're already in bad enough shape as is." I say to try and calm her down. She nods her head and sighs. An alarm started to go off and we started to slowly move forward.
"Brock... Brock where are we going?" She was starting to freak out again. Sydnee jumped down from a small ledge and started walking with us.
"See, I could just shoot the both of you right now and end you both, but what fun would that be?" Sydnee says as she pulls out a pistol, "instead, what better way to watch you both die than in a meat grinder!" She says excitedly. I started to thrash around, hoping that the old rust chain holding the hook and me can break.
"WHAT THE HELL DID I EVER DO TO YOU? WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?!" I yelled. Sydnee turns and looks at me.
"Well, you were just in the right place at the right moment. And might as well hit two birds with one stone with trying to get rid of the crew. It's the only way I'll get Evan back." She starts to giggle like a teenage schoolgirl as she walks away again.
Once she was out of sight I heard Hope sniffle her nose, like she was crying. I'm not letting Sydnee win, Hope and I are getting out of here either by me or from the guys. I let out a yell as I try to sit up. I grab the chain that was holding me up by my fingertips but only for a second before I was swinging back and forth again.
"Brock it's... it's okay. I think I'm coming to terms with this. This was all my fault anyway, I got us both killed." I turn to Hope and see that tears were forming in her eyes. I shake my head no.
"Hope stop, I couldn't protect you when I did. If I wasn't knocked out, we wouldn't be right now." I felt guilt overcome me. I could've fought harder, I could've gotten us out of that alley and to safety. I'm more at fault than she is.
"You know, you're the first one that showed me true kindness in the gang. I'm glad that you've become my best friend Brock, even if you don't think we are." Hope says giving me a smile.
She needs to get out of here, I don't care if I do, she needs to, for the both of us. I heard faint gunshots but the sound of the machines made it sound like they were miles away. Please let this be the guys. I cup my hands around my mouth and yell as loud as I can.
"HEY! WE'RE OVER HERE! HOPE AND I ARE OVER HERE!" Hope did the same and we were both yelling together.
The gunshots seemed to get closer but still seemed so quiet. They probably can't even hear us. I didn't care they needed to hear us. We stopped moving and started swinging back and forth. Hope quit yelling as she groaned.
"Brock, I really think I'm getting close to passing out. This yelling... isn't... helping." She was fighting to keep her eyes open.
"Hope, stay awake for just a little bit longer, they're almost here. Hear the gunshots? That's Evan and all the guys." She continued to fight it. Craig ran around the corner, gun out as he looked around the area quickly.
"MINI! WE'RE OVER HERE HELP HOPE REAL QUICK!" I yell out to him as he turns to us and runs over.
He tosses me a pistol as he gets to Hope. I sit up and aim it at the chain wrapped around my feet, god this better work. I shoot it and the chain breaks, I fall on my back and lay there, letting the blood flow back down throughout my body. I bring my mouth to the tight cloth wrapped around my arms and start to untie myself.
"The others are still looking for you two, Evan went to go find Sydnee," Craig says as he unties Hope's hands.
I sit up but was starting to see double, still better than nothing at all. I get up and sway my way over to help Craig. I shoot at the chain at her feet and she falls into Craig's arms. I stumble over to the wall next to us and almost fall down.
"Craig... that... hurts." Hope winces in pain. He brings her over to me and sets her down next to me.
"Go help the others. No one is going to check on us, they're either too worried about keeping Sydnee alive or trying to kill the guys." I say looking over to bot of the Craig's. He kneels down in front of us and shakes his head no.
"I split up from the guys trying to look for you two. We wait till you're both fine, here Hope." He pulls out an AP pistol from his other pocket and hands it to a spaced-out Hope.
He looks around for a second before locking eyes with something. I turn in the general direction that he was looking at. If the chain never stopped, we would've been in the meat grinder within a minute. I was still seeing double but everything was coming back together. I stand up and swayed for a second as I regained my balance.
"I'll be fine Craig. Hope are you good?" I look over to the still spaced out Hope as she has trouble standing up. My vision finally goes back to normal. I go to her side and wrap her arm around my neck, I do the same to help her from swaying. I look over at a skeptical Craig.
"We're all armed, I can help walk her if you just help get us out of here." Craig looks away from us before sighing and looking back at us.
"Just keep your pistol out okay?" Craig holds his gun out in front of him as he slowly walks forward.
(Hopes POV)
We were walking through the maze of the factory for a good few minutes. I was able to walk normally again a little after we left our spot, which definitely helped my side and of course Brock. The gunshots still were going off, but not as much as when they first started to go off.
Craig held up a hand, telling us to stop, someone was talking with another person around the corner. He peered around the corner and gasped. He drew out his gun and got away from the wall as he went around the corner, Brock and I did the same. I look as Sydnee is by a door, Evan holding out his gun, pointed at her.
"Hm, I guess you really don't care about her if you went searching for me first Puddin'." She looked over at me and smiled. It was like a small stab to me, I bit my lip to try from saying anything. Evan cares about me more than her.
"I killed Warren and I can kill you just as easily," I say darkly I take a step forward now. She sarcastically holds up her hands like she was surrendering.
"You mean nothing to him, sweetheart. If you ask him, he'll probably tell you that he's still not over me." Another step forward.
"Hope don't listen to her. She's just trying to get in your head." I was next to Evan now.
"Then kill her Evan, you have the perfect shot. Kill her, if she means nothing to you." I lower my gun and look at Evan now.
He brings the scope closer to him as he puts the finger on the trigger. I look over at Sydnee as she still has a smile on her face, she crosses her arms now. I look back over at Evan, he starts to breathe heavily now. He's... he's hesitating. Come on Evan, you're better than this.
"Come on Puddin', I know you can do it. You have Hope now, remember. Or am I right, you still have feelings for me?" She asks in a happy tone.
His arms start to shake as he yells out fuck and lowes the gun back down. I felt everything inside me break. My heart was beating heavily, my pain quickly changed into anger as I bring up my gun again and point it at her.
"Do me a favor and say hi to Warren to me." She pulled out her own gun and shot at me.
I felt bullets enter and leave my abdomen. I dropped my gun and stood there, as I watched her give me a wink and run out the door, Evan chasing after her. I shakily look down and see three bullet holes through the hoodie, blood already flowing out of them. I felt even more light-headed and fell on my back, my head hitting the smooth concrete floor. Brock and Craig came into view, both of them crying. I grabbed at Craig's hand and looked up at him. My own tears in my eyes.
"I don't want to die Craig. Please... I don't want to die... not like this." I say through my tears. He reaches down toward the bullet holes and brings his hand back up, it's covered in blood. Craig scoops me up in his lap as he starts to rock us back and forth. His tears turning into sobs. He stands up with me but I started crying in pain.
"PUT ME DOWN! IT HURTS CRAIG! CRAIG!" I was screaming now.
He sets me down quickly as he brings a hand to his mouth, still crying. Everything was becoming brighter very quickly. I heard a gasp as someone ran over to me. Brian knelt down in front of me as he looked me up and down. His own tears were forming but he shook his head as he grabbed underneath my knees and under my neck and lifted me up.
"You're not going to almost fucking die in front of me again god damn it. I don't fucking care if this hurts. YOU'RE. NOT. DYING!" I started screaming in pain through my tears.
"BRIAN IT HURTS! IT HURTS!" I was screaming through my sobs.
Craig ran in front of us and opened the door for Brian. I started to beat on Brian's chest, begging him to let me go, to make the pain stop. My hits got weaker and weaker as the light got brighter and brighter before it turned to sudden blackness. The pain soon went away.
