Hope ~ Cody
"Ugh! Do I really have to?!" you groaned in frustration.
Master Kenobi looked at you with disappointment, "I'm sorry (Y/N), the war has escalated and Jedi Generals are spread thin. As a Jedi Knight, this is just one of your duties."
You dreaded the day this would happen. At the beginning of the clone wars, you made it clear that you did not want your own battalion, no did you want anything to do with being a higher up to the clones. The whole concept of creating humans just to force them into brutal war made you sick. Ethically, everything about this war was wrong, hence, you wanted nothing to do with the clones. You feared being with them would make you feel more passionate about what you believed. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Eventually your worst nightmare came to life and you had to serve as a general to the 212th. The thought of those poor men dying under your command hurt before you even met them.
As you and Obi Wan made your way to the Jedi cruiser, he explained to you what your first mission would entail, but you weren't able to focus on that. It wasn't until you landed on the cruiser that the reality of the situation hit you. Obi Wan lead you to the on cruiser barracks of the 212th so you could meet them before you left for the mission.
"Good Morning men!" Obi Wan announced, you following behind him, "I have things to deal with at the Jedi Temple, so am leaving you with General (Y/LN)!"
You stepped beside him and faked a smile, "I can't wait to lead you men to victory."
"With that being said, you should all get ready for departure to Florrum," Obi Wan remarked, "I'll be back in a few rotations."
The 212th went around and introduced themselves, but their helmets were still on, so you knew the second the helmets came off, you'd be more confused than you are now. The only one you really remembered was Cody, and that was because he was your second in command.
"It's a pleasure to meet you all. I'll debrief you on the mission on the way there," you explained, trying your hardest to not be angry with the situation.
"Yes Sir!" they all chanted in unison, leaving the barracks and heading to the loading dock.
You followed behind them since there wasn't an immediate rush. As you were thinking about the mission, you sensed a presence coming up to you.
"General," Cody said, getting your attention.
"Yes Commander?"
"Is everything okay?" he seemed to be able to pick up on your disappointment.
You laughed a little and decided it would be best to lie, "oh you know! First time jitters!"
Cody laughed as well, "Well, if you need anything, myself an all the men of the 212th are willing to do anything!"
"Thank you Cody," you smiled, arriving at the dock, "Let's get to Florrum."
On the way down to the surface, you debriefed the men. It was mostly a relief effort, but there were few some battalions of droids that could pose a problem. The main goal was to protect a Republic outpost from those remaining droids. After the debriefing it fell quiet. You could hear the soft hum of the gunship engine as you looked around at the group in the ship with you. You shut you eyes and kept telling yourself that they could all make it out alive.
"General!" your com link went off breaking silence, "we see gunfire on the surface, should we land there instead?"
"Oh yay my first instant decision," you groaned to yourself, "Yes! Sounds perfect!"
The closer you got to the surface the louder the battle got, making you beyond nervous. The door quickly opened and you turned on your lightsaber, doing exactly what Obi Wan instructed you to do.
It wasn't a simple battle for sure. You were told most the droids were gone since the Separatist ships have left, but it seemed like so many droids. After all the droids were killed, you recouped the men to take the walk to the outpost. One of the men didn't make it. You were told his name was Trecker. The whole walk, all you could think about was him. "What would his life have been after the war? His poor friends."
Once you got to the outpost, you told the boys that they could wander the base, but they had to be on high alert. When they dispersed, you found a small room used for meetings and took a seat. You massaged your temples and sighed. It worried you that your feelings of empathy were effecting you like this, but you reassured yourself that it was just because you were a kind soul.
Suddenly, the door quickly opened, "General!"
It was Cody.
"Hi, Commander. What's up?" you were hoping maybe this would get your mind off of things.
Cody took off his helmet and placed it on the table, "Well, I just wanted to know if we've got a quiet General or the loss of your first solider is getting to you too hard."
You did not hear a single word he said. Once the helmet came off, you were engulfed with thousands of feelings. You've seen what a clone looks like before but Cody had something about him that no one else had. Maybe it was the scar along his temple? Your mouth opened ever so slightly and you completely stopped blinking.
"Sir?" he asked once you didn't answer after a few seconds.
"Uh, hi, I'm (Y/N)," you said without thinking.
"Excuse me?" Cody was clearly extremely confused by your comment.
You sighed, "I'm sorry, I'm just not used to war time formalities. But, you can call me (Y/N) if you'd like, when we aren't in battle."
Cody laughed, "Alright (Y/N). But are you quiet or-?"
"Just upset about Trecker," you whispered.
"I know it's worse because it is your first time, but keep in mind this is what we were made for. Trecker was a wonderful brother, and I am disappointed that I will never see him again, but that's just how life is for us clones. Don't let it bother you, (Y/N)," Cody smiled, trying to reassure you that everything was alright. What came next was the LAST thing he expected.
You clenched your fist, "That's the thing! How dare the Republic think it's okay to just make humans to fight then die. This is why no one has ever seen my around. I refused to fight in a war that is so morally warped."
Cody's eyes widened and he was speechless. He never heard anyone, let alone a Jedi make such a statement that every solider could agree with. "That was really touch-"
Cody was cut off my a ground shaking explosion.
"To be continued?" you noted, rushing out of the room and alerting the men that the action is clearly not over yet.
(.......)
It's been a few days since that battle and you found yourself hanging out with Cody. He was really easing all the pain and frustration you have from the war. Whether it was grabbing a meal at the mess hall, or having Cody swing by your barracks, it was nice to have him. The fact that his looks were his CT number out of ten made it even better.
"Hey (Y/N)!" he cheered, walking into your barracks.
You rolled out fo your bed, "Have you heard of knocking?"
He rolled his eyes, "I was just excited to see you!"
"Oh?" you thought. He's never said that before. "In that case, what's up?" you asked, going to your bag and grabbing a deck of cards. That's what you both usually did together.
"I need an excuse to come over?"
You laughed, "I guess not. The least I could do to thank you for your kindness is play cards with you!"
"ERS!" he exclaimed, calling what game he wanted, "I'll totally beat you this time!"
"Yeah right!" you sassed back, dealing out the deck.
The two of you were playing, when suddenly, Cody stopped putting down cards.
"Uh Cody?" you questioned him stopping.
He put his deck down and ran his hands though his hair. "I gotta come clean," he sighed.
You instantly became concerned, "What's wrong Cody?"
Cody kept taking deep breaths, hesitant to speak. "I've really enjoyed these past fews days," he finally let out.
"Me too Cody!" you replied with a smile.
He looked at you with passion in his eyes, "No, I've REALLY enjoyed these past few days." Cody scooted closer to you and rested his hand on your shoulder. "You are the most jaw dropping General I've ever seen," he confessed.
His words sent chills down your whole body. Without thinking, you grabbed the back of his head and crashed your lips into his. Your chest filled with warmth as he deepened this kiss.
"Wow," he gasped pulling back, "I cannot believe-"
"I've got a thing for cute Commanders," you cut him off, kissing his cheek.
He laughed and picked you up over his shoulders and dropped your on your bed.
"I am so glad that finally happened," he whispered, pulling you close to his chest.
"Me too," you smiled, happy that you were assigned to the 212th and given the opportunity to meet such an amazing guy.
