Never Again ~ Rex
It was just another day as the logistics specialist of the 501st. Before every battle you were responsible for making sure the men had enough supplies and enough men were deployed. After the battle was what you hated. This was when you had to do the death reports. It wasn't much work. All you had to do was change the status of every fallen soldier to 'deceased'. But it was emotionally tolling, especially because you made a strong effort to bond with every one of the men.
In you efforts to meet all the guys of the 501st, you met CT-7567, Captain Rex. He stood out like a star in an empty night sky, which for an army of clones, was pretty rare.
Most legions didn't know much about their logistics specialists, but this was not the case with the 501st. Everyone knew you, even men in other legions. Whether it was eating in the mess with them, or joining in on their after hours games, you always made sure you could develop a strong bond with the boys.
Your bond with Rex, however, became more than just friendly after a while. Eating lunch together turned into always sitting next to each other during game night, turned into him walking you back to your private quarters every night, turned into him not going back to the 501st barracks after dropping you off.
Each moment spent together made the love you shared for each other stronger and stronger, until it became obvious the 'just friends' thing wasn't going to work. You were never explicitly told you weren't allowed to have romantic relations with a soldier, but Rex and the other men were constantly reminded that all romantic relationships were forbidden.
Prior to meeting you, Rex was the poster child of a perfect, regulation following trooper. The moment he laid eyes on you, that regulation seemed to have escaped his knowledge.
The past few months were absolute bliss. Well, when Rex was deployed you constantly worried, but him being in your arms after the mission always made up for it.
Today, the 501st was coming back from Geonosis and you couldn't be happier. The death toll seemed higher than usual, so you knew Rex wasn't going to be in the greatest mood upon arrival. You sat at your desk, resting your head on your palm as you looked at the massive list of deaths you had to log.
Your eyes began to burn from looking at the blue glow of the holopad for so long. As you rubbed your eyes, you felt a set of hands rest on your shoulders. You gasped and turned around, revealing your lover with his helmet off. Rex's armor was covered with fine red dust, and there were bags under his eyes.
"I'm tired," was all he said.
"I'm sure," you whispered, putting your hand on his cheek, "if you want you can to to quarters, wash up, and start to get sleep. I need to finish this up, but I'll be there soon."
Rex didn't like this. "No," he grumbled.
"Hun, I'm sorry. I just really need to finish-"
He pressed his index and middle finger against your lips, "No you don't."
You've never seen Rex like this before. He always understood that work had to come first, "Rex, I-"
"Hush," he commanded, cutting you off, "It's captain until you call your work quits."
His golden brown eyes glared yours down. He wanted you, he craved you, he needed you. You watched his eyes trail up and down your body as he began to bite his lower lip. "I haven't seen you in five days, cyare."
You knew exactly what he was trying to do. Bitterly, you groaned his name and reminded him again that you had work to finish. He wasn't buying that.
Rex looked at your desk and snagged your holopad, "If you want it, come get it," he teased before bolting out the door. You exhaled angrily and left the room, making your way to your private quarters, knowing he would be there.
Sure enough, when you entered your room, Rex was there, his arms folded across his chest. On the ground was your holopad and all of his upper armor. You were a sucker for that look. It was arguably your favorite look on him. Maybe it was the way the blacks hugged each muscle, but something about it always drove you crazy.
"Rex, I know what you're doing," you groaned, refusing to succumb to his ways.
"Olaror," he whispered, his eyes touching your soul. You knew enough Mando'a to know that he asked you to come to him.
You didn't come to him. Instead, you look him up and down, admiring every square inch of him, undressing him with your eyes. It didn't take him long to pick up on this.
"What are you waiting for?" he asked in a deep tone. Every second he was pushing you closer and closer to the edge. Rex took a few steps towards you and cupped his hand around your cheek, then slowly ran his fingers down your cheek, resting them on your collar bone. His eyes followed his fingers. When they reached your collar bone, he looked back up at you, "What are you waiting for?" he repeated.
That was it. You put your hands on his chest and grabbed his top, pulling him into you, your lips crashing into his. The second your lips melt, you remembered how much you loved the sweet taste of him. The taste you've been missing for days. He smiled into the kiss, knowing he got exactly what he wanted.
Rex took over the kiss and wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you up off the ground and resting you on your bed. You grunted as he pinned you down, his lower armor digging into your thigh.
"Sorry cyar'ika," he mumbled, hopping of the bed and removing his armor piece by piece until he was only in his upper blacks and boxer briefs. He stood off the bed for a moment, letting you stare at him. On the outside, you had a straight face, yet admirable eyes. On the inside, every muscle of your body was screaming.
Rex laid back in the bed on top of you, then wrapped his arms around you, allowing him to roll the two of you over so you were on top of him. You sat up on his stomach and placed your hands to each side of his shoulder, smiling down at him. The strings of your 501st hoodie dangled over his chest.
He started twisting one around his index finger, "I missed you so much. We lost so many men, (Y/N)," he sighed, "you know that."
"I'm sorry Rex," You rolled off his stomach and off to his side, "do you want to talk about it?"
Rex began to nibble on his lower lip, "I fear one day, my number will come in. And you'll be there, filing the death reports. That's how you'll find out. Not by Fives, Jesse, no. By my CT number coming through your holopad. That's all I could think about once we hit day three on that awful planet."
"Hun," you sighed, rubbing your thumb against the five day old stubble on his jawline, "That's just a reality we have to face."
"You're right, I'm sorry I dump crazy stuff like this on you," he nodded before kissing your forehead.
You laughed, "Rex, you know you always have my ear. Literally," you pushed your hair off your ear revealing the aurebesh 7567 you have behind it.
"I really hope we don't have a long campaign any time soon," he noted, nuzzling his head into your chest to listen to your heartbeat.
"Yeah," you exhaled, "five days without you? Never again."
