09 | Green Hood
"Tommy?" I shouted in the open air of Queen Mansion. I raced inside of the foyer, heart rapidly pounding in my chest as fear seeped into my veins. The wooden door slammed against the wall, bouncing off of it as Chase followed me inside.
Thea called me near the end of the lunch with my dad, quickly informing me that our brothers were kidnapped by a group of thugs and back home safely at Queen Mansion. As soon as the words left her mouth, I went into a full blown panic, terrified of what happened to my brother. Fries went flying in the air everywhere and a ketchup packet landed on Dad's suit. I barely managed to speak fast enough to tell Dad what happened and how I would call him later before I hightailed out of his office with Chase in tow.
When I heard the word 'kidnapped', all I thought about was Tommy being put through even majorly as bad as I went through. To think he was placed in a van with a bag over his head and beat up absolutely terrified me, and brought back that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I needed to know my brother was okay. Thea said they were safe, but it was something I needed to see with my own eyes.
I would personally kill anyone who put a hand on Tommy. If criminals thought Code Black was dangerous when they messed with me four years ago, they had no idea what I was capable of when they messed with my brother. We just got Oliver back, too. I was not willing to lose him again so quickly.
Despite being in Queen Mansion, where they were heavily guarded now, more than they had ever been before, Chase didn't take any chances after what happened here. He was hot on my heels, not bothering to close the door behind us. His long legs easily kept up with me as I ran through the foyer of the house.
"Tommy?" My voice echoed against the walls. I bounded up the right side stairs, eyes wildly searching for my older brother. Where the hell was he?
"Hensley?"
I rounded around the corner of the stairs and sped down the walkway to the first door on the left, automatically knowing they were inside. Instantly, I spotted Tommy on the edge of one of the couches in the den and he jumped to his feet when he saw run inside. I ran straight to him, not bothering to pay any attention to the rest of the Queen family, including Walter, or the two detectives in the room.
"Oh, thank God." I breathed, throwing my arms around my brother's torso. My arms tightened against his body, relieved to see he was in one piece.
Everyone's eyes fell on me in the room. None of them mattered to me in the slightest. All I cared about in this moment was that my brother was okay after being kidnapped. If I hadn't gone to lunch with our dad, maybe I could have done something to prevent all of this from happening. I could have stopped this. I, also, would have given part of my secret identity, but Chase would have been able to take control of the situation.
Still sitting on the couch, Oliver gazed up at us with a look of surprise when he saw how distraught I was. I smiled down at him when we made eye contact, a simple way to let him know I was thankful he was okay as well. I pulled back from my brother, quickly examining his face to see if he had any cuts or bruises.
Tommy smiled at me in reassurance, "Hens, I'm fine, I promise."
I frowned at his response, not believing a word he said. "No, you are not fine, Tommy!" I waved my hand through the air at Oliver on the couch. "Neither of you are. You were kidnapped!" I whirled around to the two detectives, instantly recognizing Laurel's father as one of them and the other as Detective Hilton. "Do you have any idea who did it?"
The question was from a worrisome sister, but, also, as a determined vigilante that planned to wreck havoc on the men's lives that did this to them. Once I found out who they are, they would regret ever shoving bags over Tommy and Oliver's heads.
"That's what we were trying to work on, Hensley, before you came storming in." Detective Lance answered me with a slight attitude to his voice. He sat in the chair near the end of the couch by Oliver. A notepad and pen were held in his hands, wiggled in the air out in front of him for emphasis.
A hand latched onto my arm. Tommy pulled me down on the couch with him. I breathed out deeply, holding back any snarky comments that might spill out of my mouth from Detective Lance's rudeness. The attitude he always had toward our family was unsurprising, but he usually held back on it when it came to me, considering I was such good friends with his daughter.
Laurel and I became closer over the years, especially the past year with Tommy and her sleeping around from time to time. Perhaps, I shouldn't know about their minor relationship that couldn't even be considered a relationship in general, but Tommy occasionally came to me for advice.
Sitting beside Tommy, I was about to see Thea and Raisa standing not too far away, giving me a small smile, and Chase was by the door, patiently waiting. His face was blank and he had his hands folded over each other in front of his body. He was in full bodyguard mode, acting like a fly on the wall and no one paid any attention to him. Moira and Walter sat on the opposite couch, quietly listening.
"So, that's your story?" Detective Lance picked up where he left off, eyes roaming over what he wrote down in his notepad. He narrowed his eyes at Oliver and spoke with a doubting tone laced in his voice. "A guy in a green hood flew in and single-handedly took out three armed kidnappers?"
A guy in a green hood? Internally, I thought about how that sounded a lot like a vigilante. Starling City only had two vigilantes that I was aware of. One of them rarely ever went out unless it was absolutely necessary, who happened to be my father. The other vigilante in this city was myself. We never wore anything other than all black when we went out on the streets. So, who the hell was this guy in a green hood?
"I mean, who is he? Why would he do that?" Detective Lance demanded to know. His pen hovered over the notepad.
A smirk slid on Oliver's face. He barely shrugged his shoulder before replying without a care in the world, "I don't know. Find him and you can ask."
I peered around Tommy, frowning at how carefree Oliver was acting about the the entire situation. They were kidnapped and he acted as if it was just a normal day for him. These men were armed with weapons. How was Oliver acting this way? In a way, Oliver was acting a lot like his old self, when he just didn't care about anything because he didn't have to.
"Yeah," Detective Lance nearly rolled his eyes at Oliver's statement. He turned his attention on my brother while holding up a charcoal sketch of the hooded man. "You see the hood guy?"
The sketch was a side profile of the man. Whoever gave the details on the new vigilante seemed to only give the basic facts of what the man looked like. The sketch was not strong enough to use to identify the man, which took away one of my chances of finding him.
The two boys shared a quick look with each other before Tommy eyed the sketch of the hooded man one more time. "I saw--" He glanced at his best friend from the corner of his eyes, who only stared back at him with a blank expression, one that was far too calm for the situation at hand. Tommy looked back at the two detectives. "-- just movement. Everything blurry. I was kind of out of it."
I lightly squeezed his forearm, comfortingly. I was grateful Tommy couldn't exactly remember what happened. That kind of experience leaves a terrible feeling with you in everything you do. I knew that firsthand. Although, his voice quivered slightly when he spoke, like he sounded too unsure about what he said.
"Yeah," Detective Lance mumbled, uncertainly. An annoyed expression was thrown at Oliver next. "It's funny, isn't it? One day back and already somebody's gunning for you. Aren't you popular?"
The hatred Detective Lance felt toward Oliver was unnecessary for him to bring into his job, especially when he was just kidnapped. He blamed Oliver for his daughter Sara's death. No one knew she boarded the Queen Gambit that day and went off with Oliver for the trip. Sara never told anyone she had been seeing Oliver behind her sister's back.
Moria glared at the back of the detectives' heads, clearly upset up his choice of words. "Were you able to identify the men?"
Detective Hilton shook his head once before he replied to her, "Scrubbed identities, untraceable weapons. These were pros." He stopped absentmindedly pacing the room, fiddling with his own notepad in hand.
Hidden behind my leg, my hand balled up into a tight fist. It was no surprise to me that the police wouldn't be able to help with something like this. They seemed to struggle with finding information about kidnappers. Dad told me about how they barely provided any help when I went missing. He hired a private investigator for that reason, and to cover up the important fact that Dad was searching for me on his own. He needed someone to take the fall for when he actually found me and took everything into his own hands.
Detective Lance pressed his fingertips together and swiveled in head in Moira's direction. "Yeah, well, the probably figured you'd pay a king's ransom to get your boy back or a Queen's ransom, as it were. After all, a parent would do anything to keep their child safe," His head angled back to Oliver's then to me, adding, "Just ask Ms. Merlyn over there about what her father did when she went missing."
My jaw clenched in irritation. Being friends with Laurel often made me be around her father at times and he fully knew how sensitive I was about the subject of my kidnapping. Livid, I heavily glared at Detective Lance with the same amount of hatred he felt toward Oliver. How dare he drag me into all of this when it had nothing to do with me!
A hand belonging to Tommy held me down, knowing I was seconds away from exploding at the detective. "Hensley has nothing to do with this, so don't drag her in it," he barked, harshly.
Even Oliver and Thea opened their mouth to defend my honor until their mother's voice cut them off before either one could utter a single word.
"I don't find your tone appropriate, Detective." Moira calmly scolded him.
Walter climbed to his feet and interjected before Detective Lance could make a comment back to her. "If Oliver can think of anything else, he'll be in touch." He effortlessly took control of the conversation. His hands moved his jacket out of the way as they slid into his trouser pockets, nodding at the two detectives, signaling it was time for them to leave. "Thank you, gentlemen, for coming."
A low chuckle came from Detective Lance as he climbed to his feet, grabbing a thin work portfolio from the floor by his shoes. He slid the sketch inside and nodded once at Moira and Walter. I continued to glare at him, frustrated he would bring me into this when I had nothing to do with the case. The hate he felt for my father, as well, was sometimes transferred over to me.
Oliver climbed to his feet.
"Your luck never seems to run out, does it?"
"It's time for you to leave, Detective." I snipped, unable to hold back any of my anger.
He met my gaze, pressing his lips together when he realized he stepped too far with me. Raisa showed the two detectives out of the room, making sure they left Queen Mansion altogether. Laurel would be horrified when she found out the comments her dad made today.
Thea slowly wandered over to where I was sitting on the couch. A concerned look was present on her face as she crossed the room. "Hensley, are you okay?" She asked, knowing how sensitive I was.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I muttered back to her. I stood up from the couch beside her while Tommy climbed to his own feet. I smoothed my hands over my jeans, palms slick with sweat from being so close to Oliver's bedroom, the same place I've been avoiding for four years.
"Have I ever told you how attractive your bodyguard is?" Thea casually angled her back to Chase, who hadn't moved from his position by the door. A wicked grin was on her lips as she peeked over her shoulder at him. "Because his good looks should not go wasted."
I cracked a smile. Her playful attitude helped soothe my nerves. "Are you trying to ask if he is single?"
Thea beamed at me. "You know me too well, Hensley."
"You do realize he's twenty-seven and you are seventeen, right?" I laughed, briefly making eye contact with him over her shoulder.
Thea groaned, tilting her head back, dramatically. "Come on, Hens, you're killing me." She turned back around to fully look over at Chase. "Haven't you ever considered dating him? How can you look at him all day, every day and never have those thoughts?"
"I mean, he is cute." I told her, shrugging my shoulders. "But I don't find myself attracted to him." I nervously tucked a strand behind my ear before I folded my arms over my chest. "I'm not exactly ready for a relationship yet either."
Her eyes widened in disbelief. "How? He's literally the definition of tall, dark, and handsome. I just want to run my fingers through his hair." Thea eyed him and flashed him a smile when they made eye contact. Her eyes flew back to mine. "Does he box with you shirtless?"
I laughed at her questions. "Sometimes."
"Can I please sit in on one lesson?" Thea pressed her palms together in a begging motion. "I need to see that."
"What lesson?" Oliver walked up to the two of us, grinning. His arms crossed over his chest as he smiled at the two of us, waiting for us to answer.
"Boxing lessons," Thea answered first.
Our conversation grabbed Tommy's attention and he moved to stand beside me. He glanced down at me, understanding the conversation was directed at me.
Oliver raised a brow and turned his head to me. "You box?"
I nonchalantly shrugged my shoulders. If only he knew how well I boxed and what else I was capable of. "Uh, yeah," I told him. "I kind of took it up after everything happened and Dad thought it would be a good idea if I learned some self defense moves."
An impressed look shined in Oliver's eyes, like he hadn't expected me to be interested in a sport. When most people heard I took up boxing lessons, they expected I was on a basic level and most likely needed more training to actually hold up in a fight. I knew Oliver was thinking the exact same thing. I was small and most considered me to be a fragile girl.
There was a reason I let everyone believe that theory about me. This way, no one would ever believe I was Code Black.
"Chase is my teacher." I pointed to him across the room.
A smirk spread across his lips at the mention of him. It wasn't a lie. Chase was my teacher. We just didn't box for the full hour I was there for, but no one ever had to know that. That would forever remain our little secret, aside from my Dad knowing.

This would have been uploaded last night, but it desperately needed to be rewritten, so you are now receiving it. Hope you didn't mind waiting. I think this chapter was worth it.
I just really love this story, probably because I love the show so much. I started to watch it from season one again since I'm all caught up on the seasons now.
I can't wait until this gets more action packed. You can expect some run-ins with Code Black soon. And more scenes with Oliver.
Question: The party Tommy throws for Oliver is coming up soon. How do you think that will go for Hensley?
So, yeah!
