He wanted to stop her, but didn't. He watched like the coward he was as she walked by and shut the door behind him. He didn't know why her face was red or why she was smiling in such a nervous way, either.

Maybe it was because she knew he was watching her and thought he was creepy. Maybe that was what made her nervous.
