Chapter 63
"Left and then down the escalators, and always walk in a formation," I muttered quietly, but my voice was clearly heard in the nervous silence.
I looked down at the frayed sleeve of the jacket, even with the borrowed uniforms we will still look out of place in our disheveled appearance. Our best bet is to walk quietly and swiftly out of here and hope that nobody stops us to question about the dried blood on our uniforms.
The vibrations reduced to a purr as the train slowed to a halt, the platform coming in view from the glass doors. I looked behind my shoulder, everyone was standing in a line with Zane at the very end. The doors slid open and I took a deep breath before taking a step down. I immediately jumped back when I saw a flash of asure uniforms.
"They are in the next buggy," and we have been very lucky to not have an encounter with them and I intend to keep it that way.
I counted them as they all filtered out one after the other, the buzz of activity from the station long forgotten. A total of ten officers got down and I peaked my head out, watching as they merged with another row of officers. There are too many of them.
I stepped down the train when they were out of sight and made way for others. The air here is a little thicker, a little dusty and stale. When I saw them stepping down I started walking, maneuvering through the groups of people scattered around on the busy station.
We turned left, two more minutes and we will be at the exit. And there are going to be officers there. I glanced back, they are all walking behind me, a straight line.
"Sir, can you help me a little?" I slowed at the words, glancing back to see an old lady holding Ian back. I took a swift U turn, "keep walking. Third exit, down the stairs and left in the parking lot, don't forget." I whispered stiffly to Beckett behind me and talked back to Ian, nodding at the rest of us to keep walking casually.
Ian looked at a loss for words, he kept glancing at the line moving forward and at the lady who was patiently waiting with her luggage. Zane regarded me with questioning eyes, and I nodded, faintly brushing his arm when he passed me.
"Good colours madam, how can we help you?" I asked the stunted lady. Ian glanced at me from the corner of his eyes and I gave a slight nod.
"Oh, I just need a little help loading my bags in the train, but the officer here looked confused. Are we not supposed to-" she said slowly glancing at Ian who stood stiffly.
I cut her off with a smile, "no of course not, my colleague here had a rough day and is just eager to meet his family, excuse him grandma," I smiled again and clutched the handle of her bag. I glanced back and took a relieved breath when I saw them join a group of officers moving out of the security checkpost. Nice call Beckett.
"Ah okay, come on, there is a lot of rush on the station, I just saw Mr. Sorin, he is a board member you know," I nodded along with her as we started walking behind her with our luggage.
"Where are we going madam?" I asked her, cuts stretching painfully on my arm. I winced at the sharp stab of pain.
"Oh, just to platform number 7," she mumbled distractly and my eyes widened. Number, 7 is on the other side of the freaking station. I nudged Ian with my elbow and he snapped his attention to me.
"But madam, if we are late we will miss our ride and platform 7 is on the other side of the station,"
"That is awful but I am sure you can hail a taxi and don't you have your hoverboards?"
"Ya we will be back in a bit," Ian replied and dropped the bags, before the lady even had the time to turn around he shrugged the bags out of my hands and pulled me with him. We ran away from her and effectively merged with the crowd.
Two officers were flanking the exit to the parking lot and we were out of luck with this one, I sucked in a deep breath and squared my shoulders before parting from the crowd.
"Good colours officers," I nodded at both of them and stepped towards the gateway.
"Ah you both look really roughed up and you are bleeding," the officer on the left asked, taking a step forward. I stopped and glanced at my arm, which was leaking blood through the fabric covering it in a spot of red.
"Rough assignment," I chuckled, my heart thudding loudly in my ears, I don't even know if I have used the right word.
"Are you sure officer, you barely look old enough to handle yourself," the other officer chuckled, placing his arms on his waist.
"I am sure that you would rather not have a public demonstration of my capabilities on this fine morning," I replied swiftly, tipping my chin at them and walked through the gate. I took a short flight of stairs down, keeping an eye on Ian and hoping they won't stop me again.
Left. Left. Left. I kept chanting in my head as I passed people in the indoor parking lot, overhead lights lighting up the dark hall. My footsteps echoed and they sounded like drum beats to my ears. Kayden said on the left side of the parking lot. He will be there.
I looked around, there were rows and rows of cars parked around here, but I couldn't catch anyone. "Where are they?" I mumbled quietly to myself.
"There, look," Ian whispered standing at the corner of a pillar. I walked to him briskly and indeed our group was there, standing at the very corner of the dark corner of the lot. I started walking, my eyes flitting around in search of a head of silver blond hair.
Where is Kaden?
They are all standing in a circle, huddling in the corner. I furrowed my eyebrows and walked faster, transitioning into a jog. Zane turned and looked at me, immediately pulling away from the group and standing to the side. That is when I saw the silver hairs and navy blue suit, with white pin strips. My eyes widened and I broke into a run, everyone parting to let me see him.
Kayden stepped forward and opened his arms, a crisp suit and perfectly groomed. I launched myself in his arms, the force pushing us back and I wrapped my arms around him tightly, placing my head on his chest as Kayden held me tightly to him. I shuttered a breath and swallowed, his cologne wafting to my nose and I inhaled deeply. Clinging to him like a koala bear.
"You are here," I whispered quietly.
"You are alive," Kayde breathed quietly and we gently parted. He swung an arm around my shoulders and pulled me beside him.
"As I was saying, we have two cars, one is from my office. It will be enough to take us to Clauferry. So who knows how to drive?" Kayden pulled out the keys and chucked them at Tristan, everyone began shuffling to the cars.
His phone started ringing and he knitted his eyebrows together, reading the caller id.
"Why would mom call me now? She must know-" he trailed off, mumbling in confusion and pressed the phone to his ear. He moved to the driver's seat and beeped the car open.
"What?" he yelled and I jumped on the spot, eyes wide and locking with each other.
"Mom what happened, what- Hello- Mom?" He yelled into the phone and I jumped to his side pulling the phone from his grip as my heartbeat grew louder, pounding at my ribcage.
"Kayden, I-" mom's voice filtered through the speaker of the phone as she sobbed, her words breaking. All movements stopped and everyone came closer.
A thud and a bang, as if the furniture was being thrown around. "Ask him to come here," someone snapped at the phone, the voice rugged and sent my nerves trembling.
"Kayden come here- NO Ash, let him go," I clutched Kayden's arm when mom screamed in desperation, her voice bleeding with panic.
"Mom, what is happening? Mom," Kayden yelled back into the phone, his breath growing heavier and he gripped the phone tighter. There was no reply, more thrashing, hitting and disarrayed sound. Something broke in the distance, like glass shattering and hitting the ground. I tightened my grip as my heart hammered at my rib cage, a scream at the tip of my tongue.
"Mom?" Kayden yelled again furiously.
"Kayden," mom wailed on the phone, her voice getting choked over the sobs, "please come here fast, there are some men here," she hiccuped, sobbing as her voice shook.
"Listen here, come here this instant if you want to see them alive, don't call anyone because we are Sorin's personal officers and we are told to get your family packed up and shipped to Urydale so I suggest that you get here before you run out of time," someone growled on the phone, spitting out the words that chilled me to my bones.
"Noooo," I gasped at the sudden cry of pain, my legs growing weaker as Ash's scream echoed in the empty lot.
"Let me go," he cried again, screaming his words.
"He can't do anything,"
"Maybe he is just weak,"
"Too weak to even show his colour, I think not,"
At the muffled conversation my eyes snapped to Kayden, and I shook my head slowly. Eyes mirroring clear fear.
They know.
The call ended, a stabbing silence left in its awake and the conflict started to cloud my mind.
We need to save them, I need to save my family. I looked back at my team, the colourless who were looking at me to hear my mind. I blinked, I can't go with them, I am not going with them. And I think that is what they saw in my eyes as Beckett stepped forward hesitantly. And I shook my head at him.
"We need to get to Clauferry Ariel, we can't do that without you," Beckett urged slowly, placing a hand on my shoulder to comfort me, but I shook my head at him, Ash's cry ringing in my head. I stepped back and shrugged his hand away.
"You can back out now, it will jeopardize everything," Beckett pressed his point, speaking sharply as I continued to shake my head.
' They need a leader.'
I shook my head again as if to get rid of Oreana's voice.
"We can split up, Kayden can take two with him and the rest of us can move to Clauferry," Beckett urged helplessly, his voice turning desperate as I kept moving back.
"It all makes sense now," my eyes snapped up at Zane's voice. "The only thing that wasn't adding up was your reason to be in Urydale, why you were seeking us and why you were so willing to help. It wasn't for us, and it wasn't for your Nanu, you didn't even know he was alive," his eyes were sharp as they started back at me.
"You have been lying to us from the start, using us to get you a solution for your brother's colourlessness so he wouldn't end up like us," he pushed away to stand in the front, facing me with darkened emotions.
"Weren't you going to use me too, to get to your goal. Asking me to infiltrate a government building and poison them. And it is my choice that I didn't tell you anything about my brother," I snapped at him, my voice turning cold as I tried to stand still. Nerves in chaos.
"And what about your colours? That was your choice too right," Zane continues, taking a step forward and I shook my head, turning back to step to the open door of the car.
"You expect trust, loyalty, but you aren't willing to return that," he snapped again and grabbed my arm, pulling me back to face him.
I glared at him, "I would do the same, a thousand time, anything to keep my family safe. Wouldn't you do the same for Mich."

Guys so sorry for the late update, there is only so much I can do with 8 hrs of online classes 😞
And yes my college started about a couple of weeks ago and it has been literal hell!!! Anyways I get one holiday so I will try to get the remaining chapters to you as soon as possible (even though I have assignments and periodicals).
Btw I am thinking of adding an interview chapter with the last chapter, so you can comment the questions you want to ask the characters and they will be separately interviewed. It can be as funny as you like and as many questions as you want to be answered!!!!!
.....I am going to ask Skye what is going on between him and Oreana 😉😂
