Memory Lane

I gasped. This was Memory Lane.

That house! It was my first house! It was black, and small.

That other house! Where I grew up! There was the dent where Amika had thrown a ball!

There was Amika's house, where... I lost all of this. Where I lost her.

I looked away, hoping to divert to my happiest memories. There was both my schools, and my dance academy.

At each place, memories rushed to me. Smells, of baked goods from Amika's parent's bakery. We had practically spent our teen years there.

I saw where I stood up to Chloé, my bully. I saw where I had stayed in my trip to Paris. I saw all the place's I knew of. I saw the memories each held inside of them. I smiled as I remembered my Netflix addiction.

I swept away tears when I saw where my grandparents had died.

Where I had starved myself.

Where I had ken my arm.

Where...

I was interrupted when I saw them.

My family, my friends, everyone I knew.

They were all grouped together, standing as if they were wax. I reached over, as if to touch them, but the shimmered.

I sprang back. Suddenly, I could hear bird calls. I was in a forest.

Why? Then it hit me. This is where my ancestors came from. When they had lived freely, before the English. Before... I blinked away tears. I could remember how the Aborigines were treated throughout the years. And then all the so-called 'minorities'.

It turns out I was a advocate for equality.

Until...

I had gained my memories, so why was I still here?

I wandered around lost, until I saw the §. I touched it, and was plunged into darkness.

When I woke up, I knew that I had come back. I was gone from Memory Lane.

I could remember my life now, but what were the costs?
