"Is that really so, doctor?" Toriel said.
Auburn nodded her head, "I might have to request frequent visits for check ups. This is not normal, and if not checked- I don't know what it'll do." She spoke softly and with a slight monotonous tone, which is reffered to as "proffesional" as many supposed.
Toriel took it all, and held her hands close to her heart, gulping. Like every other mother, she was worried.
Asgore was right behind her, trying not to stare, and yet, completely failing.
Sitting close to Kris, oddly, was Susie. She dared not leave his side, fearing of another unexpected fit.
"But he'll be free to leave," Auburn said, "Despite his current issue with his erm... soul, he'll be fine. Just be sure to call whenever something... odd happens." She added, trying to brighten up the solemn and dared she say, terrified room.
Toriel turned to Kris and held his gaze. She nodded to Auburn, "I will be sure to inform." Toriel said as she took Kris' hand.
Smiling slightly at his mother's care, Kris followed along with his mother's tug.
Asgore smiled at the scene, at the very least Kris was somewhat happy.
Toriel exited along with Kris. Asriel whispered something to Auburn alone and caught up with the two who exited. Asgore walked a little behind them, but smiled peacefully.
Balling her fists in a bit of pain, Susie stared at the perfect scene.
A perfect family.
A perfect life.
Oh, she wished she had that.
She didn't know where this odd emotion came from- although she had a clue, she wanted a family just like that.
Susie bit her lip, holding in the tears. Auburn proceeded to head out with papers in hand.
Asgore glanced back, and noticed that Susie was standing still. Her scowl replaced with such a longing frown.
Unexpectedly, Asgore walked towards her. Stopping in front of her, holding out his hand.
Because of his Asgore's tremendous stature, Susie had to look up and back to his hand.
"Come with us." Asgore smiled, "Toriel would be glad to know that you are Kris' friend."
Unnoticable it seemed, his angered eyes battled against his caring portrait.
Susie shriveled under his gaze, but maintained her composure, "I'll be fine on my own, thanks."
Asgore furrowed his eyebrows and shook away the feeling of anger, "There is nothing to be afraid of, child." He smiled, truly this time.
"I just-" Susie said and paused, she looked at his hand, "You..." She hesitated again, fear enveloping. She sucked in the fear and with determination she spoke, "You hate me, don't you?"
Asgore was slightly taken aback. And he shook his head vigurously, "Of course not." Asgore sighed and shook his head, "Not at all."
Susie furrowed her brows, "You're lying." Susie said, "You're lying." She said again. She stuffed her hands in her pockets and muttered, "Tch. Like I care." And walked past Asgore.
Asgore gone quiet for a few moments, "You know..." He started, "If you saw how angered I have been, that anger wasn't for you." He said truthfully.
With her curiosity perking up, she turned and faced Asgore, "It's just that..." Asgore spoke again, "You're so much like Tori when we were younger, about your age." He smiled blissfully at the thought, "It makes me regret every mistake I've done as a husband." He continued.
Susie remained quiet as Asgore went on, "I just- promise me you'll take care of Kris."
At this, Susie cheeks dusted a faint red. Take care of him? What did he mean? Wait- that?! She blushed, even more so.
Asgore chuckled seeing her flushed face, "Do not worry, I'm sure you'll make a great wife! Or will most likely be the husband." Asgore laughed wholeheartedly.
Unmoving, Susie just stared.
"Dad!" Kris shrieked from the door, although it was barely a shout, everyone knew it was a screech in his opinion.
Asgore laughed and went to Kris. Patting his back and continued laughing he said, "Do not worry, my child, I was merely joking."
Kris huffed, puffing his cheeks a little. Turning his head to Susie, "Mom asked me if you want to come over." Kris said simply.
Susie turned to Asgore who was grinning widely, she still felt his anger, but she had comfort knowing it was not for her. Asgore nudged her as if to say yes.
"Umm... Sure, whatever, squirt." Susie muttered a bit on the last part.
Asgore was smiling ear to ear. And for once, Susie felt a sense of fatherly love, unexpectedly.
Kris gestured for her to come, and Susie relunctantly did so.
Asgore gave a bouquet of buttercups to Kris, "For your mother." He said.
Susie had her brows corrugated, but still, she nodded to Asgore, indicating her leave. Asgore nodded back and proceeded else where.
Susie's curiosity picked up, "Isn't your father going home with you?" She asked.
"No." Kris said, "Dad and Mom divorced long ago." He said with a monotonous tone.
Susie felt sorry and she opened her mouth to speak, only to be stopped by Kris raising his hand, "Don't be sorry." He sighed, "I've had enough of that."
Susie was suprised he could talk back to her, but wasn't willing to pick on him if it involved family issues- which she knew many about, "Sorry? Who said I was sorry, dork." Susie growled a bit.
"Oh, um, sorry about that." Kris said as he walked a bit faster.
"My child, a bit faster if you please!" Toriel informed.
Kris grabbed Susie's arm without hesitation and pulled her along, "Come on!"
Susie blushed, strangely, unexpectedly.
~~~~~~~
Toriel sat in front of Susie and stirred her tea, her legs crossed underneath the table.
Susie felt anxious, especially since Toriel had such piercing green eyes.
"Don't be shy, child, eat!" Toriel informed happily.
Susie nodded her head slowly. The way this family accepted her easily, it felt somewhat unbelievable, yet so right, in a way.
Kris was with his brother upstairs, doing what Asriel proclaims to be "bro time" and had left the two for some "girl time" in which he proclaims as well.
"Now," Toriel started. Susie gulped, expecting an interview, although kept a straight face as she internally drooled over the food settled in front of her, "Where do you live, Susie?" Toriel asked with a small smile.
"I don't have a home, Ms. Dreemurr." Susie said simply.
Dismissing the use of her name, Toriel's eyes widened, "Then, what about your parents?"
Susie shook her head. Oddly, Susie didn't seem to mind being quiet and timid around Toriel, she just reasoned it as an effect of this "girl time".
Toriel had her eyes brimmed with tears, "I simply cannot bear children alone. And in the streets!" Toriel assumed.
Susie just nodded plainly. She didn't live in the streets, she lived in a once happy household that was now broken-down, uncared for, unloved.
Like her.
But it held the same effect to Toriel either way it had been said.
"In all my years knowing you, I thought you had just been a bully," Toriel started.
Susie hung her head. Once, she was proud of her being the biggest bully, but now, with her strange change, unexpected emotions, she became ashamed of it.
"But you have a story of your own..." Toriel stated with a pitiful look.
"Yeah..." Susie said with a slight raspy tone, finally finding her voice to answer.
Toriel rested her head on her palm and sat there thinking.
A few moments passed filled with silence, and a bit of Susie munching on bacon, which was the greatest thing she tasted in her life- Well, besides chalk that is- Toriel stood up unexpectedly and slammed her hands on the table.
"You could live here!" Toriel said in eurika. Toriel coughed and lowered her voice, "You could live here if you'd like." Toriel said.
"Me?" Susie pointed to herself, "I- I couldn't Ms.-"
"Nonsense." Toriel shook her head, "I would like another child to take care of, especially when Azzy goes back to college in two weeks." She smiled, "But it is completely your choice."
"I-I" Susie stammered, she stared at her motherly gaze, contemplating the offer. In those eyes, she saw her own mother, before she had turned to ashes, she couldn't say no, perhaps this was why she could not provoke nor taunt Toriel, perhaps she saw her own mother in those green orbs, "I'd like that, you know, live here."
Toriel smiled gleefully, "It's settled!" She clasped her hands together.
"I wish there's some way I could repay you." Susie said out of the blue.
Toriel shook her head, "There's none I can think of in the moment." She paused and her eyes widened in realization, "Well... I did just knit a very cute sweater. And it's just your size." Toriel said.
Susie's brows furrowed in confusion, "Wait..."
Before she knew, she was already in the most "adorable"- in which she called grotest- outfit she wore in her entire life.
"Uhh... Ms. Dreemurr-" Susie tried to speak.
"No, no call me Toriel, or Mom if you like." Toriel grinned with care.
"Toriel..." Susie said. She wasn't ready to call her mom, not yet. Her Mom couldn't be replaced, she thought. But the smile Toriel wore just proved that it was only a matter of time before she called her "mother", "Do I really have to put this on?" She pointed to the flower crown on her head.
"Why of course!" Toriel giggled.
From the door, Kris and his brother, brimming with curiosity, stared at Susie in a bit of shock and wonder.
"Wow, she's a pretty one." Asriel said, "Better make the moves, bro." He grinned as he teased.
Kris merely stared with mouth slightly agape and his cheeks a light touch of determined red. He mumbled, "Didn't even know she could behave."
Asriel snorted, "But you can't stop drooling. Tsk, tsk, tsk. My brother's a perv." Asriel grinned with absolute enjoyment, watching Kris' cheeks become red even more.
"Am not!" His voice was only a light touch in the air, but everyone had their eyes on him.
Susie's gaze met Kris' and both stayed that way, for a few moments it seemed. That moment was broken by the sound of Toriel clasping her hands together.
"Just in time! Kris, Asriel, we have some news!"
~~~~~~~
From afar I see, a perfect family for her...
Better than I or her could have ever given.
