Corrupt
Yellow has been searching for days now. The rain has poured down steadily, drenching her. Her hair sops in her face, her shoulders hang low. It's amazing what a few months without any sign of your lover can do. The once proud gem is completely broken, her spirit gone. The only reason she trudges on is to find Blue Zircon. She's been told this is hopeless, that Blue would have shown up by now. She won't give up until she knows.
But even her motivation is slipping away. Each step is heavy and slow. She's retraced her steps from where she last saw Blue. Yet her memory is beginning to fade, giving up on her. She sniffles and pushes forward. She wipes her eyes with her sleeve and cleans her monocle. She is lost, she has been for days, and she thinks she might be losing her mind. She shakes off the feeling, forcing herself to move forward. For Blue.
Her search leads her down a different path. Her heart pounds. She hasn't taken this route yet. Hope floods through her, and she even dares to crack a smile. She hasn't laughed nor smiled since Blue went missing. The thought of finding her surges her forward, into a cave.
"I'm on my way, Blue."
She can't see anything in the darkness. Her gem glows just enough for her to light the way. She walks along the cave, looking around. Yellow feels along the cave wall, the cool and slightly damp rock guiding her. She trembles with excitement and fear. She just wants to find Blue and get out of here.
She just hope she wasn't too late.
A soft, shuffling noise alerts Yellow. She draws her weapon slowly, eyes focused straight ahead. The figure steps closer, towards the radiating Yellow light. The steps are uncertain, hesitant. Yellow smiles. If it's anyone, it has to be Blue. Perhaps she's just hopeful. She too steps closer, until her gem's light shines onto the figure. Her eyes widen, tears spilling down her face. No, this can't be.
The gem stands at Blue's height, her hair is disheveled and messy. Her monocle is cracked, her skin cut. Her mouth is ripped open and is trying to form words. Sharp spikes cover most of her back, along the middle. Her eyes are wide and bloodshot beyond belief. Broken screens lodge themselves in her arms and legs. The unmistakable pallet of blues, the shaking stride, the wide eyes...
"Blue, is that you?"
Blue can't even form a coherent reply. She just growls and charges at Yellow, who just stands there, too horrified to move. Blue attacks her repeatedly, and Yellow lets her. She slowly wraps her arms around her, sobbing.
As Yellow holds onto Blue, the corrupted gem claws and tears at her. Crimson stains her pale yellow skin, her vest torn and bloodstained. She frantically kisses Blue, cradling her face in her hands. The torn open mouth moves to form words, but Yellow silences them with a kiss. Blue reels again and bites her shoulder until her bloody eyes sees the red liquid flowing.Yellow is sobbing. She kisses her gem while shaking. Blue keeps attacking her, until it became too much for her physical form to handle. She poofs, gemstone falling to the floor. Her words never reach her corrupted lover.
"I love you, now and forever."
Yellow reforms quickly, and resumes her attempts to soothe the gem.
"Yellow Zircon!" She turns abruptly as the Crystal Gems race into the cave. Yellow stares at them as Peridot walks up to her. The rest of the gems fight off the corrupted Blue Zircon while Yellow screams and pleas for them to stop. Tears stream down her face, mixing with the blood and stinging her wounds.
The gem is poofed and Yellow bubbles it carefully. She flicks her hand, and the bubble disappears.
"Where did it go?" Yellow asks quietly.
"Home." Peridot answers.
