Hi! This chapter is for simple cover stuff! I used to not know anything about covers and made covers like:

Which is really just me blending a bunch of things on top of each other and slapping text on top

And then I discovered the world of simple covers which is pretty much text slap with guidelines

(And I also found out about cover sizes)

I am here to keep you from making such abominations and those alike

Let's help you get from this:

To this:

(I know it's not that good but ehh)

1. Use the correct size -
I beg of you

2. Do not use more than 2 different fonts -
They're gonna look messy

3. Please stick to neutral font colours -
You know, black and white
(Sometimes this rule has to be broken though ;))

4. Find pictures with a lot of space for text -
So it's easier for you and it looks neater

5. Less is more -
Don't overcrowd buddy, that's just not nice

Pretty much a recap with pictures:

Find a good picture that has space, pictures like these:

I usually get my pictures from Unsplash or Pinterest :)

Crop your chosen picture (I mainly use PicsArt but occasionally canva):

Save the cropped picture:

Open whatever text app you use and add text (I mostly use Phonto)

Please use fonts that match the genre, don't use a horror font for a teen fiction fic ;—;

this would probably indicate piranhas or another jaws story

Remember to not use more than two different fonts, and please don't match complicated font with complicated font.

For example if you use a cursive font for the title, it's better to use a sans serif font for the author or subtitle, it makes it more balanced idk. If you use a distorted font for the title, use a sans serif font for the author of subtitle.

And please use black or white for your text, if you want colours please limit it to no more than 1 random colour + black/white (though sometimes this rule can be broken and things can still turn out okay but that case is rare)

slap on your text and make sure they don't get too close to the edges or the pictures — just let them have their personal space
