Chapter 1. Inauguration

"I am proud to be the first president from the glorious state of Washington. Now I understand that some of my fellow candidates were worried about my lack of compassion towards the falling job market, and I understand that a certian... percentage of our country was specifically worried about the stock markets over the last year. Let me remind you that I stand for creating more jobs, and that we have proven that more jobs will balance out the markets!" he stopped, raising up a hand to the sky. "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Roosevelt said it best, better than I ever could. If the one percent fear the poor than why should we fear them? As your president, I am happy to raise my tax rate policy through my own maticulously planned senate, fully balanced may I mind you." He let a smile through, waving to a small girl sitting a few rows into the crowd. "The children of the next generation will not hodl our debt with them. If they choose to ruin our country after we are gone, well I can only pray that we have taught them how to fix it once again. But today we make a difference, one that effects your schools, your state governments, your militia's, your neighbourhood markets. The days we spent hiding from the government, the days we would hide our friends from the police, we do not have to do that anymore. Vice President Kal already started projects in eleven states to start on proper refugee housing and employment facilities. I will carry on his legacy while he takes over my company from this day forward."

Everett took in a breath, looking forward towards the momument, it's casting over 300 feet, right across the water. He looked towards the crowd, smiling at the people right up front. His wife Jenifer, right next to her was Naiche Mulligan his Vice, then his three children Anabell, Emanual and baby Adaline. They all looked beautiful in the early afternoon light. Even as cloud cluddered above.

No rain.

"In this day an age there is so much we do not think of. My daughter and Son, my wife, my best friend. My mother passed away only this last year and my father was never a part of my life. So many children think every other child has a parent, or that every child goes home to a home. Children on the streets! Children with no food! Things I know I dealt with in my life time. My mother worked three jobs when I was little and my brothers and I work at least two by age sixteen. You all know this, you voted for me maybe because you knew that. I understand why you all wish to have a better life. I understand that life is terrible for most, and that every day it becomes harder and harder to keep trying. Sometimes what drives us is our family, other times it can be power or money. The thing is that without any motivation we risk not feeling anything at all. If I feel nothing then what makes me a good president."

"I will not treat this country like one person, but like the community that we are. After today I hope that I can be the president you truly thought you were voting for. Thank you, each and every one of you, for voting me to be your 49th President of the United States Of America!" He waved as he stepped down from the podium as Vice President Kal got up to give his own speech for the end of his Term.

Happily walking back to his family as his little girl ran up to him. He saw a camera trainling after him as he picked up his little Adaline. "Daddy, Manny pulled on my braids!" She cried out, hugging around her fathers neck.

The little boy yelled back, Naiche grabbing at the younger twins hand and hitting it. "Don't yell, we are in pubic." He scolded, Emanual frowning as he sat back down with his mother and older sister.

Everett chuckled as he sat down, Adaline smiling in his lap as she crossed her legs. "Now remember Emanual, arguing will only get you somewhere if you believe in what you are saying."

The little boy pouted as he glared at his sister. "She kicked me so I pulled her braids. You said I just said I wasn't suppose to kick her back last time." He defended, noticing a camera zooming in on his family. He was about to point to it when his father reached out.

"We will talk more once we get home. You are not in trouble though." He said with a smile.

The little boys frown broke as he leaned back in his chair. Everett heard a scuff, looking back to his second in command. "That is not how you discipline a child." The dark skinned man pushed on the Presidents shoulder, causing the other to laugh.

He smiled for another camera before leaning back himself. "Then you can yell at me later. Only an hour left here and then we can all go." He assured, winking at the younger male.

"Oh, I will do more than yell at you once we get home Rett." Naiche scolded with a smirk on his face and a dazzle in his eyes.

"Boys!" Jenifer warned, causing both males to realize how close their faces were. Everett started to laugh again as his little girl join him, Naiche staying in his normal stoic position. "Both of you behave. We do not know who is watching while we are out here."

The eldest daughter laughed lightly as the two older men, forcing her composer back for the approaching reporters. Everett smiled, passing his little girl to Naiche. "I'll be back when the wolves stop feasting." A little giggle came from the frilly dressed girl who quickly latched onto the family friend.

Naiche got approached multiple times, though unlike the bubbly president most of his responses consisted of the words "No Comment" and "If you would excuse me.". Jenifer answered a few questions, mostly from popular drama magazines and news extra articles. All three kids got an interview that was very much not in Naiche or Jenifer's best wishes. Everett called it practice, though the other adults thought it was just another way for him to drag him family into the politics.

"Adaline, does your father spend a lot of time with you?" One reporter asked, all three kids getting quiet. "Adaline?"

The small girl grabbed onto her brother hand. "Daddy is home a lot, but so is uncle Naiche. I like Uncle Naiche better." She said quietly.

Everett stayed with a large smile just off to the side while Jenifer and Naiche sat with worried expressions, finally Jenifer being the one to end the kids interview.

"Ma'am if we could just-"

"My children and I have to get home." She glared at the reporters, even straight at the rolling camera. "Everett!" She yelled, the father quickly coming in to grab both Anabell and Emanual's hands. Naiche came right to Adaline, picking her up with a smirk plastered on his face. "What channel is this?" She asked, pocking at the reporter.

She flinched, looking back to the camera. "CNN live Ma'am."

Jenifer smiled, looking straight into the camera. "Thank you, I'll know who to block at home from now on." With that she walked after her children and husband, smiling to Naiche as he ushered her back towards the car.

"Thank you, I didn't like that anymore than you did." He said, getting a slight nod from Jenifer. "And you missy," He smiled, kissing Adaline's forehead. "Am I really your favorite?" A little laugh coming from the younger mans throat as he watched the tiny daughters nod bob up and down.

Everett hand Emanual up in his arms now, the boys head laying on his shoulder. "I'm sorry for putting you kids in there. I should've known they were bad reporters. If you are ever uncomfortable you know you can tell me right?"

"We weren't uncomfortable." Anabell assured with a soft smile, waving to a few people waiting by the car.

The family and Naiche were shut in the limo, a driver starting down the drive.

"Then why were you all quiet?" Everett asked, rubbing Emanual's back.

"Because we knew what she would say." Anabell answered back quickly. "We didn't want to make you feel bad, at least I was guessing that was why Adaline had to think. It is not like her to pause before speaking."

The little girl quickly turned to face her father. "I didn't hurt your feelings, did I daddy?" She asked, grabbing at her collar.

He shook his head, feeling the ground beneath the car change as they entered the public streets. "No honey, I'm not hurt. You just like Naiche a little more, that's okay." He said with a smile.

Though now that he thought about it, he knew it would get big on the news if CNN really had been live. He could already see the headline. "Presidents Daughter Loves Vice President More"

Everett looked up as he felt a hand on his shoulder, soft caramel eyes looking back at him. Naiche let his smile settle so the man to calm down. "Just breath Rett." He said softly, lowering his head to be eye level with the tired president. "Four breaths in, four beats each."

Doing as he was told, Naiche finally let his shoulder relax. Jenifer smiled to her children and the two men. "It's just James driving, correct?" She asked, getting a nod from Naiche and a knock on the console window.

"Right here madam, windows are blacked out and music on for your pleasure?" A light British accent flowed into the main of the limo as the console divider dropped.

"Oh, please and thank you James. Too many people and too many challenges today." The noble woman shrilled as her heels came off and she laid into the lap of the Vice President. "You boys drive me crazy you know." She smiled as she saw a light blush over Everett's face.

Naiche smiled as well, holding out a hand to rub over the blushing mans cheek. "We are still talking when we get home. We need to figure out how this all is going to work out." He said softly, his eyes glaring as they went down to the sleepy boy in Everett's arms.

Everett saw the gaze, quickly shaking his head. "No, he didn't do anything wrong. She picked on him more than he does her. You know that's true Che." He protested, holding his son close.

Naiche frowned, shaking his head as he looked down to his wife's face. "If we are continuing this I think someone needs a little reminder of the rules." He said with a little smirk to Jenifer.

Once again the older male grumbled, shaking his head. "Jenny, he's just trying to get his way again, you said he c-"

"I thought I told both of you to behave." The line caught both arguing men off guard, Jenifer's voice traveling a little louder than the rest. "Now Naiche is right, we can't let Manny just get away with hurting Adaline. Shes already in trouble for kicked him, and I will make sure of it. We are parents, there is no favoritism." She kept her head in Naiche's lap, sighing. "When we get home we should just sleep. No work, no meetings, just a nice long nap. The three of us."

A little eye roll came from Everett as he slouched. "My baby boy didn't do anything and you know it." he mumbled, holding Emanual in a tight grip.

An identical grip was around Naiche with Adaline, the tension between the two fathers filling the car.

Anabell could have cared less about her parents fighting. It was all they did when they started the campaign, not like when her dad was a governor. DC was fun, but she missed Washington. The cool waters and dark forest right outside of her house. The bunnies that would hope through the front yard and the howling of Coyotes right on the Colombia. She remembered her grandmother baking a pie for Naiche when he came back from Iraq, or when she had made her debate team cookies. She missed her friends from school, and her teachers. Mr. Riley was on the other side of the country probably teaching kids how to greet each other in Latin. Her grandmothers house was full with a new families stuff, and all the Coyotes were ran out by supposed nature conservationists. Anabell remembered her dad and Naiche helping her with her classes, and her mom helping her with Science and typing. Or when they brought Emanual and Adaline home for the first time. But she knew her little siblings barely remembered their north west life.

Now she sits in the living room of her mothers parents house, listening to Bach in G major as her supposed cousins told grand stories of their times in Italy and France. She tasted weird food while her Grandfather went on about the dryness of wine. Her mother tried to connect with her through painting, but the arts were not in her favor.

The campaign being over only meant a worse time for the girl. She knew that Naiche would be involved in her life less and less as these long four, maybe eight years went by. She'd be forced into an even higher role of society than she already felt she was. And worse of all her mother would call the one thing ruining her life a miracle.

"Are we going to live you and Mama?" She asked that night as they all sat in the Rossi's elegant dining hall.

Everett was about to speak when his mother in law took the lead. "Why dear, do you not want to stay here with your grand father and I? Your mother said you wished to continue your studies, I just assumed she meant with us. A tutor would be such a burden in the White house, and you three already have so much to do." She said quickly, making eye contact with her daughter.

"Why of course the kids are staying here!" She proclaimed, a shocked look coming to Everett's face.

"But we'll be hours away then. How will we take care of them?" He asked, trying to deny what the two women might mean.

Elisabeth smiled, shaking her head. "Why, Everett, I will take care of the Children, George and I or course. We could never expect you to run a country and take care of three beautiful children such as yours."

Naiche looked upset, but the strict hand on top of his was keeping him form protesting. He didn't know why Everett was holding on, but he would wait till the elder felt safe. They ate in silence for a while, the soft clink of a glass on the table and the scratch of a pushed out chair. Adaline got down, running around to the other side of the table to hug her grand mother.

"So we get to stay with you and Grandfather!" She asked with a swift and excited voice. Emanual looked just as happy as he stayed seated.

Everett could see the betrayed look in his eldest's eyes, shaking his head. "I don-"

"Then it is settled, the kids will stay with mother until we know for sure that we can handle everything." Jenifer cheered, gripping Everett's shoulder. "Won't this just be great for them?"

Everett didn't have to answer for his wife to be happy, but Naiche was worried when the man stayed quiet.

All he could feel was guilt. That night as he turned off the twins light, checking for a final time at Anabell's door to see her still not in her room. The feel carried into the bedroom when Jenifer tried to cheer him up, he only turned away. He fell asleep in tears that night after he left to sleep with Naiche in the library. He was carried back up to their room late in the night, Naiche ignoring his partner as he got the president to bed.

"You should talk to your daughter." He mentioned before turning in for the night.

Jenifer scowled, turning out the bedroom light as she pulled a blanket over all of them. "I will do so in the morning  if it be your wish that I do." She said with a small huff. "Te amo Che, Goodnight Everett."

"Amo."
