PERSONALITY
There once was a boy who saw a beautiful, crimson rose in his wonderland garden. All alone, away from the colourful array of flowers, as if it was any different. Guarded by its many pricks, it intimidated the fascinated child. He knew the dangers, yet the innocent urge to reach out and grasp the flower into his hand dulled out that awareness of his. So, the boy gripped the rose tight in his hand, and plucked it out. He immediately wanted to let go, but he couldn't. The pain contrasted out the tranquility he felt from having the rose in his possession. Little did he realise the scorn that would follow, once people found out what he'd done.

|| He has eyes for one woman only currently, although it's a loose relationship. It's nothing official, other than their sweet confessions. They both want more, but they both have their reasons for keeping their distance. At least, he does. Despite caring so much and loving so hard, he can't bring himself to risk pulling his family's name through the dirt. She is of a lower caste, though he personally could care less about that, he needs some time to think of how to solve matters amiably. It's not just the social issues, he has other concerns as well. While his love may seem sweet and gentle, out of a pure fantasy, it's not that pretty really. When it comes to his lover, his affections could be perceived as overbearing. His kindness is unbeatable in comparison to his peers, that's for sure, but he goes overboard with his protectiveness. He worries a lot, and feels like he needs to do so much more in order to make sure that his loved ones are safe and sound. Most people say he's rough, not because he is violent or anything of the like, but because he steers away from trying to listen to others' troubles. That's true, he is indifferent, he tries to be, because he already has his own anxieties when it comes to those he keeps close to his heart. No matter what he hears, what happens between the two, he still returns to her side - even when his presence may be unneeded or not deserved. There's a lot going on in his love affairs, and it's been tough to keep a clear mind these days, so he's prone to space out in the middle of important discussions and still manage to get out of it unscathed with a polite smile and nod.

Murmurs, echoes, and screams. They flew by the boy's head every day, of how the current duke's charm was surreal. His attention having been caught, he'd never taken his father out of his watchful eyes. He was but a child, unaware of the real world, of how the duke played people like fiddles with sweet words and smiles. And yet, somewhere in his frail mind it clicked - was lying supposed to be such a great thing? He wanted a figure to follow, someone from whom he could learn, someone who could help him affirm an identity.  Somehow, he became the opposite of said person.

 All of his life, he'd been compared to his father, a great business man in the majority's eyes and a swindler in his. Alaric didn't hate his dad, but he wasn't quite fond of the image he'd painted on himself and the effect he had on people. He'd promised himself from a frail age that he would succeed in life without being akin to his parent figure, to his supposed idol. He would perfect himself in his own ways, mostly by being upfront with the problems he had to face. He'd inherited the silver tongue and charm from the ex-duke, the problem was that he preferred to wear his heart on his sleeve. He has strong morals, and has a tendency of being blunt with those he's addressing. Why? Because honesty is a virtue, and why mess around when he can tell the truth and avoid a tiresome web of lies? He has good manners, he knows when he should refrain himself from saying anything inappropriate, but he would still say it .. just phrased nicely enough to not cause havoc. There's a difference between being respectful and being a prevaricator. He believes in freedom of speech and wants to make his opinions heard. Some may call his attitude much more brutal than the former duke's, but does he care? No. Because whoever would say that knows nothing about what his father's truly like behind the scenes. In this world, everyone wears a fancy mask, Alaric won't. That doesn't mean he is bad at keeping secrets, it's the contrary in fact, as he is known for his trustworthiness. If someone were to confide in him, he'd find it very meaningful - a sign of friendship, of loyalty - he would never betray someone's trust by spreading around secrets for his own pleasure. Even if he finds it from other people, he'd still keep his mouth shut. After all, he isn't like his father who'd gladly use it for blackmail reasons.

 It was a strange pair. A father and a son who simply couldn't see matters eye to eye. They were constantly arguing, even when the son proved his worth and became his father's pride. Even then, their ideas clashed. One summer night, after shocking news were distributed under the subtlety of an unlikely scenario, the father told him as if his heart were breaking: ' it is not because you love her, but for you see it as another way of going up against me. '

Despite everything, he is susceptible to his family's opinions. He has a woman he holds close to his heart, and no matter what he says and promises, he always finds himself in compromising circumstances where he has to cancel their plans. To an extense, he'd tried to break things off - although he was the most infatuated one. Many attempts had been made in the past years, but he found himself returning to this one lady. His best friend would've probably been disappointed in his choices, for they had entirely different perceptions on the aspect of love - he had so many chances to look for a suitor, or to simply fool around, but he gave them all away in order to return to the one he was supposed to leave. Thus,  his father always ends up convincing him that this isn't something as beautiful as the romances written in books, but it's merely an obsession born out of a childish tantrum. It should be bullshit. It should, but his concerns blind his better judgement. He knows how manipulative his papa can be, but... He is constantly doubting himself, fearing that these cruel lies might be true - it's the reason why he'd turned away from his beloved countless times. It's at times like these that he wished he had that fiery stubbornness of his sister's, to keep his mind clear and focused on one objective, rather than have it full of worries.

FACE CLAIM
|| Josh Whitehouse ( specifically his role as Hugh Armitage in Poldark )

HOBBIES
|| fencing; writing letters; horse riding; taking walks at night 'alone'; buying peculiar objects.

OPINIONS ON THE TOPICS ;

LIKES / DISLIKES —
|| correspondence, history, discreet meetings with his lover, spending time alone to brood, catching people off-guard, when people listen to his advice;
|| the current society and popular beliefs, his title despite wearing it with pride, being forced into something he doesn't want to do, seeing his lover in pain;

SEXISM—
|| Women are inherently weaker than men, that is something he believes. But does that make them useless? Tools? Accessories? Does it mean it's alright to overlook what they have to say, as well as underestimate their capabilities? If they're weak, can they not have a brighter mind than any other average man? His answers would be no. He is against the idea of putting all men on a pedestal, and trampling on women's rights - if they have any, that is. Alaric wants to see people for who they are, not for their sex.

HOMOSEXUALITY—
|| As a heterosexual gentleman ( or so he thinks, sexuality is truly diverse and for people living in this time this notion is yet to be explored) he finds it quite strange. He already didn't understand the need to sleep around with the opposite sex without maintaining any connections, but doing it with the same gender as well? Unfathomable, yet he wouldn't go out of his way to drag these people down. He knows how hard it can be to be with the one you truly love, he acknowledges the meaning and circumstances may be different, but he knows. Thus, he is understanding when it comes to this topic. That being said, homosexuality is a different concept from what he'd been taught, so he's bond to offending people with his unintended words said out of pure confusion.

THE MARRIAGE MART—
|| In a way, he can see why this was created. It's an easy method for people of the same caste to come together and find love, if only the idea wasn't twisted around ever since it came to be. To him, the mart is a bud that didn't sprout well, that withered under misconceptions and coercion, just like everything else seems to be doing in this wealthy world. It has become a place where you come looking for the best partner that could support you, it's not out of love, it's out of a /need/. Which to him, is quite ironic, he has so many things due to his title but there's still ' needs ' out there that he needs to fulfil. He isn't quite fond of this marriage mart, simply because of his unfortunate situation, in which his freedom in choosing a partner is nowhere to be found. Perhaps other people come here to actually find someone to love, perhaps he shouldn't find it that bad, but the majority come out for a facade of superficiality. He doesn't hate the idea of marriage if anything he adores it, unlike his best friend, the problem is that he wants to be tied to someone he's fond of, not to a fake bride who's looking for a balanced family rather than endearment. On short, he despises being forced by his family to find a pretentious stranger as a suitor in this event when his mind's already infatuated with another.

THE ROYAL FAMILY—
|| Truth be told, Alaric doesn't have any strong opinions regarding the royal family itself. He has a lot of respect for those at the top, of course, but he doesn't know enough to have any impressions, other than the pretty crowns and jewelry their rules drown in. However, he is keen on the idea of monarchy. He finds it intriguing how this certain form of government is like a double-edged sword, when it could either be stable, or harmful. Due to his high rank in society, he is unaware of what effects it has on the nation as a whole, but it would be an interesting thing to study during his free time. He would love to look beneath these poised figures and find out what the royals truly are like as people, but that is a mere dream. So, he remains insouciant.

EXTRA
|| He'd surely been fueling his sister's bratty self, with how much he doted on her ever since they were children ( he'd always wanted a sibling, but that doesn't mean he was responsible enough to know that spoiling her wouldn't help when she grew up).

He'd definitely been to the gentlemen's clubs before ( once or twice ), due to his friend's influence, but he hadn't really found it... satisfying.

Lately, Alaric has been considering properly addressing the matter of his commoner lover, as he's tired of going back and forth between her and his family's principles. He pushed those plans of his until after the marriage mart, having decided that he would give it one more go this year.
