Ten: Baseball

According to Hero, although Tyler didn't completely understand, the weather in the Sanctuary was dependent on Bodil's mood. The happier Bodil was, the less clouds there were in the sky. So, since it was raining out, Hero was very concerned about Bodil's wellbeing.
Tyler didn't know why. Bodil never seemed upset, he was probably just having some nightmare, he would get back to normal pretty fast, and they could keep training and then save Archangel, which was what Tyler had been brought here to do. Nonetheless, he was glad Hero had come along because he had no idea how to care for a sick Demigod.
A couple of days passed. Hero stayed over. A couple of times, when Tyler was taking breaks from shooting practice by himself, he would visit his sick... Friend? Was Bodil his friend? He didn't know. Bodil stayed asleep, although sometimes he muttered something under his breath in another language. To his utter confusion, Tyler heard his name, but he couldn't tell why his name had been said. He even whispered to Bodil, asking him why while he slept, but he never got an answer. Tyler wasn't sure what he wanted to hear if Bodil did tell him why he was saying his name. He decided to just try and forget about it.
Tyler took over taking care of Bodil's cat and loyal friend, Artie. He fed him, cuddled with him, sometimes he would go out for walks along the nearby lake and Artie would trot happily along beside him. It was usually cloudy outside sometimes. Tyler never noticed, but on the rare occasion that he went up to sit by Bodil and interrogate him about why Bodil kept calling for him, a tiny bit of sunshine would poke through the cloudy, like a little ray of hope. But as soon as Tyler left, Bodil would roll over on his side and curl up a little bit and the clouds would cover the sunlight.
Usually, Hero would bring home some fast food and he and Tyler would casually eat burgers and fries while watching a movie. Hero seemed impressed by the upgrades Bodil had made to the house since Tyler first arrived; Tyler hadn't really noticed the changes till Hero said something. Bodil had built a ton, but just a little bit every night. Hero suspected Bodil had done it while Tyler was sleeping, because Bodil didn't require sleep as a Demigod.
Hero took a long walk around the house, and told Tyler everything that had changed since the last time he had visited. There was a second floor to the house, Bodil's room and across the hall from that was Tyler's room. There was a little nook at the top of the stairs nearby the hall with the bedrooms. There was a cat bed in it and a few toys scattered around for Artie, along with a tiny staircase leading up to the windowsill so Artie could look out. Tyler couldn't help but think it was adorable that Bodil had built a bedroom for his cat, but it made sense. Hero told Tyler that Artie had been Bodil's only friend for a long time.
How old is Artie, Tyler had asked curiously.
Hero told him Artie had been with Bodil for three hundred years. When Tyler asked how that was possible, Hero told him that the Sanctuary stores mortal life away. If a human or an animal or anything at all were to stay in the Sanctuary for a long time, very rarely ever leave, they would never age. Artie had only left the Sanctuary once in his entire life, and that was to go to the vet for three days when he ate a bouncy ball in the 90s and had to get an operation to get it out.
One day while Bodil was awake for a change but still lying in bed, Hero was standing by the window in the kitchen, staring out the window. Tyler was reading one of the books he had found in Bodil's bedroom, in the bookshelves beside his desk. It was Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. Tyler never liked the writing style of William Shakespeare very much, but the plots he wrote were interesting and he respected the man a fair amount. He was a nice guy, in his time.
So Hero was staring out the window and Tyler was reading, and Hero turned to him and said, "Let's go to a baseball game."
Tyler looked up in surprise and confusion. "Huh?"
"Y'know, baseball? Very popular sport on Earth. Wanna go to a game? I know I do. C'mon, it'll be fun! I'll buy you peanuts!"
Tyler stared at the Demigod of Magists for a moment. The Herobrine of his home realm, Archangel, was very different from the man offering to take him to Earth and buy him peanuts just because he felt like it. Tyler eventually shrugged and set down his book. "Yeah, okay. But will Bodil be alright on his own?"
"Notch is watching the weather." Hero said. "So, I did my research, and there's a game in Louisville at three o'clock, it'll be the Cardinals versus the Reds. You in?"
Tyler nodded. "Yeah I'm in."
Hero grinned. "Great! Go get ready!"
Tyler smiled and nodded and went upstairs to his room. When they arrived at the stadium in Louisville, in America, on Earth, Hero made sure to teleport inside a supple closet so no humans would see and panic and think Hero was a wizard apparating like the last time he had visited Earth. They left the supply closet and got a couple funny looks from bystanders. One older man winked at Tyler, smirking. Tyler grimaced.
Hero told Tyler to get a seat in the stands while he went and bought them snacks very customary of an Earth baseball game. Tyler sat down in the bleachers, something a lot of the people sitting there called the cheap seats. On the field below, Tyler saw baseball players warming up, getting ready to play the game. After a few minutes that he stood in silence, Hero teleported beside him, Tyler looked at him and choked, immediately knowing why it took awhile for the Demigod to show up.
He had bought a shirt, a hat, and very stupid-looking sunglasses flashing with cheesy light all merchandise for the Reds team. His arms were full of food and drinks and he looked as excited as a child as Christmas morning. Tyler couldn't help but smile. "I cannot believe."
Hero grinned and put the drinks in the cup holders. "I'm not gonna lie, I love America." He tossed Tyler a tee shirt and a bag of peanuts, grinning, and he looked around as Tyler put on the shirt to humor the Demigod. He hummed softly as the first pitch was being thrown and he smiled. "These are Bodil's people." He looked at Tyler. "Humans are wonderful, aren't they? Small and short-lived and a little petty, but beautiful and bright and they just don't give up. They feel everything and sometimes it drives them mad, but they keep on going, no matter how destroyed they are, be it apocalypse, war, plague... They just keep going." Hero looked at Tyler, smiling a little. "Who does that sound like to you?"
Tyler stared at him a moment, then looked down at the game, which was starting up. Hero smirked softly, popping a peanut casually into his mouth. Not much time passed, but Tyler was just starting to have fun with Hero at the game when it happened.
He heard a few gasps among the crowd, and more people looked up, making more people gasp. Tyler and Hero didn't notice anything, until it landed in the middle of the baseball field. Rather, he landed.
Tyler took a double take as he saw him on camera, on the big screen in the stadium, looking around at the baseball players and the huge crowd interestedly. Tyler's eyes widened and he stood up like a shot. "Saruhiko!" He snapped.
The man, Saruhiko, had wings. He had flown down onto the field with jet black wings that looks just like Tyler's. He appeared to be just a little younger than Tyler, with glasses and messy black hair and a rather bored expression. He flew up again, the camera following him. Hero groaned loudly. "Poor Hystoria... Poor, poor Hystoria."
As soon as Saruhiko landed on the bleachers a level below him and Tyler, Hero teleported all the to the supply closet. Dimly, they could hear muffled shouts of confusion from the crowd outside. Hero just sighed loudly. "Well, we're gonna be a new meme soon." He looked at Saruhiko and Tyler and was going to interrogate them, but Tyler was already yelling at the younger Soulsucker in another language, so Hero decided it would be wise to just stay quiet.
"What the hell are you even doing here?" Tyler finally demanded in English. "I don't see you for years, and suddenly you just fly in the middle of a baseball game on Earth?! What the hell Saru?!"
Hero looked between them in confusion. "Sorry, do you guys know each other?"
Tyler sighed. "Unfortunately."
"Harsh." Saruhiko replied dryly. He looked to Hero. "You've made friends with a Demigod? Fascinating." He didn't seem to be very fascinated by Hero at all. "I'm Saruhiko, Tyler's younger brother."
"Unfortunately." Tyler growled again.
Hero blinked. "You have a brother?"
"And a sister, who's doing well, by the way. We're still exchanging letters and she's angry that you never reply to hers." Saruhiko said, crossing his arms.
"Oh I'm sorry I couldn't find the time I was too busy almost dying." Tyler snapped sarcastically.
"That sounds like a you problem."
"Your face is a you problem..."
"You're a child."
"Says you."
Hero sighed. He couldn't imagine what it must be like to get into a sibling fight. He and Notch never fought. Neeeever. "Children, could we please talk like adults so we can get out of this damned closet?"
Saruhiko looked at Hero, then at Tyler. He looked him slowly up and down, registering the shirt and the bag of peanuts. "...Oh my god." He smirked.
Tyler scowled. "Oh, shut up!"
"This is just too good."
"Saru, why are you here?!"
"Oh, that." Saruhiko uncrossed his arms, shifting his weight to his other foot and putting his hand on his hip. "Someone's wandering around the Soulsucker ruins."
Tyler stopped. Suddenly, he looked serious. Hero look between the brothers in confusion. "And that's...?"
"Bad." Tyler said. "The ruins are sacred ground. Whoever the hell is there-"
"-is gonna get the ass kicked." Saruhiko said. He smirked at Tyler. "Let's go, brother."
"I'll teleport you there." Hero said, learning not to argue, and they both nodded. Hero put a hand on both their shoulders and they promptly teleported away. When they reappeared, Hero thought for a moment that he had accidentally taken him to some Roman ruins from Earth, but they didn't seem angry about being in the wrong place. They both looked around like tigers scanning their surroundings for prey. Both had weapons in hand. "Um..." Hero started to speak, before they heard the voice.
"Hello?" A distant, voice echoed across the ruins. In the theme of Earth, the male voice had an almost Irish tone. "H-Hello? Anybody?"
Tyler's eyes narrowed. He looked at Saruhiko and they nodded in unison before splitting up. Hero decide to just stay out of their way and remain where he was.
Tyler crept along, taking light steps through the rubble stones and still remaining ashes. He held his scythe tightly, even though it was still clammed shut; it could be used as a pretty good staff. Around the edge of a boulder he went, looking around for the voice as they called. He approached it, able to tell because the voce grew louder. Saruhiko was somewhere else in the maze of rubble, but then, Tyler heard the voice get cut off by a loud shout.
He looked up and started running, knowing his little brother had found them first. Then, when he turned the corner and saw who Saru had pinned to the ground with his scythe to their neck, he froze.
It was a young man, bald-headed, wearing grey robes. A Chu monk. Tyler gasped. "Saru! Saru, get up, let him go, stop stop!" Saruhiko looked up in surprise and confusion and Tyler shoved him off of the monk. "He's okay!" He sighed and pulled the shaking monk to his feet. "I'm really sorry, kid..." He looked at him. "How... How are you even here?"
He looked the monk up and down. He didn't look travel worn at all, he couldn't have walked all the way here. He must have been teleported, but why? He looked scared and he had a nasty, still bleeding cut on his cheek.
"Th... Th-The Monastery..." The monk cried frantically. "I-It... Angels, th-they...! A-And the High M-Monk...!"
Tyler's eyes narrowed with concern while Saruhiko watched with mile confusion. "Whoa, kid, slow down. What about the Monastery? What's wrong with Murphey?"
"I-It... I-It's under a-attack...!"
Tyler froze. Hero had joined them just in time to hear the news and his eyes widened in horror. "Who... Who would...?!" Tyler looked back at Hero, shocked.
Hero swallowed. "Angels... He said angels..."
Tyler tensed and his expression darkened. "Oh. Oh, that's it." He looked at the monk. "I'll get rid of those damned Cherubs, I promise." He sighed at the cut on the innocent monk's cheek. "Nobody else will get hurt..."
