Expectations are the worst kind of self-destruction. 

There are the expectations for straight A's and Harvard acceptance letters;

for being the best jumper, runner, thrower, catcher, swimmer; 

for happiness - how much we should show our faults.

There are expectations for cruelty and what we want to be portrayed as; 

for high and low standards;

for those who have "no" standards.

There are expectations for clean rooms, pet grooming, and carpet cleaning. 

Expectations range from how you look at yourself in the mirror to over-analyzing what people are thinking about you. 

But why? 

Because it's human nature.

It's human nature to have expectations.

"I expected more from that movie."

"I want this essay done by tomorrow."

"He should have opened the door for you."

"I thought my parents were going to buy me a car for my birthday."

Sometimes, we do it out of habit - 

unconsciously. 

But we need those expectations.

We need those due dates;

the rating of cleanliness;

the laws that govern countries.

Because without expectations, how would the world survive?
