Chapter 1

Hello! Sorry it took so long to get this chapter out- fucking cat stop biting my computer- anyways, I hope you enjoy! <3

~

Since that day, I had only talked to Audrey a record breaking two times. Why keep tabs on our conversations, you might ask? Because my increase in loneliness had also increased my desperation, and therefore had me dreaming about the possibility of conversing with her too often. My grades dropped, I stopped paying attention in class. I was more of a mess than I already was.

I thought frequently of the conversations we did have. One, about the loss of a pencil. Fallen and stranded under my seat, begging to be brought back to its rightful place assisting the angel. "Can you get that for me?" She'd asked, motioning to the item in a hushed voice. I picked it up, hands shaking, and handed it to her. That was the end of it, but I thought about it almost every day. I remembered the look she had given me. The way she spoke. She was constantly on my mind.

Our second conversation was about the logo on my t-shirt. It was of a band she happened to enjoy. We talked about our favorite albums, favorite members, favorite whatever for about five minutes. Sadly, we were forced to go our separate ways when the bell rang, sending us to our next period. But this little connection we had kept me hooked for months after. These little things made feel as though we were together in some way. That the universe was keeping us together. And music was the way to do it.

I had never known a thing about love. But maybe, just maybe, I loved this girl.

Of course, for quite a long time I found it hopeless. She was straight, I would repeat to myself in between fantasies and school and practicing drums. The good ones are always straight, remember?

About a month later she was forced out of the closest by the schools latest gossip. Bi. Audrey Alexandra Hamilton was bi. And of course, our homophobic little hell hole of a school started to pretend like she wasn't there. Just like they did with me and Troy. I think I cried when I heard she was gay. Well, half gay. My dreams had the slightest chance of becoming true. And I promised that somehow, someday, she would be mine.

-

"Y'know," Troy said in between mouthfuls of whatever the hell was on his plate. I wouldn't know, I wasn't up to date with the latest vegan trends. "Maybe you should try talking to her. Because honey-" He flipped the wavy, blonde soaked ends of her hair, "if you ever want to tap that, I suggest you speak to her, first."

My face blazed, and I punched him in the arm. He snickered behind his hands. "I have talked to her.." I hissed, picking up a slice of mushy pizza, which was quickly dropped back onto the plate.

Troy rolled his stupid green eyes and gave me a stupid green eyed look. I stared down at my Converse, rereading the song lyrics and taking note of the fact that I would soon have no more room to doodle on either shoe. Dammit. I had just gotten this pair.

"And by talk to her, you mean stare at her creepily as she draws, writes, or does literally anything that requires movement or focus so that she won't see you? That's what you mean, right?" He smirked and I punched him in the gut. He coughed hard.

"Jesus." He said after his coughing fit was over. "I'm just kidding, Sams. Calm down. But you're going to have to talk to her at some point." He waved his white block of fake meat in the air and then shoved it in his mouth.

My eyes instinctively traveled to Audrey, who was sitting alone at one of the cafeteria tables. Her long, beautiful autumn hair was tucked into a messing braid. Her glasses were on the verge of falling off her nose as she concentrated on the sketchbook in her hands. Her fingers working delicately yet restlessly as she scribbled on the page. I bet her drawings were lovely. I'd only ever seen a few, but I wished I could look at them all. See what went on in that pretty little head of hers.

"You're staring, boo." Troy muttered as he ate. My eyes snapped up and I blushed again. He chuckled. "Talk to her." He said as he got up. "For me."

I sighed, not looking up as he skipped off, heading to his next class early. My thoughts raced, and I tapped my foot anxiously.

Once again, my gaze drifted to Audrey, and by a small burst of courage, I stood up. Slowly, at first, and then all the way. I took a few hesitant steps in her directions and by some miracle was able to make it to her table.

I didn't know how long it took, but I knew that quite a few people were staring at me as I stumbled forward. Scared out of my mind yet more hopeful than anything else. What would she think of me, I had no idea. I didn't care, not at the moment. I knew I would later, but my objective now was to talk to her.

Just a little 'hey' or something, and I hoped she would take it from there. If she didn't, I would probably go home and curl up and cry for days and never be able to ever show my face anywhere ever again without bursting into tears. But if she did, and we started talking, I would go home and cry. But for a much different reason. And then the next day I'd rub it in Troy's gay fucking face that I had a conversation with my crush and he wasn't able to hold eye contact with his. But of course I wouldn't do that. I loved Troy, and I wasn't that much of an asshole.

Ok, maybe I was.

I reached Audrey's table, and it took just a second for her to look up. In that moment, I was able to catch a glance of a half finished drawing of a flower that couldn't have looked more real. God. She was so talented.

"H-Hi." I said, my voice shaking beyond my control. She smiled, obviously a bit confused. I think I almost fell over. She bit her lip a little, curiosity in her eyes. I smiled back at the best of my abilities. "I'm Sam, w-we've talked b-before.. I don't k-know if you remember.. but... D-do you mind if I sit here?"

She grinned and nodded. With shaking hands I pulled back the chair. Collapsing into it. Fuck. Why was I so nervous? How was I going to pull this off?

She spoke quietly, but a bit joyful. "I'm Audrey.." She hummed. I passed out.

Awe. My poor little nervous bab. Also, sorry it took so long to update. I just have not had like any time to write. Hope you all enjoyed, though!
