what is a lie?

a lie is when i offer
the world my smile
but i just lay alone,
crying at night.

a lie is when i say
i'm well and fine
but the truth is
i'm just waiting to die.

a lie is when i hear
my heart beat
but i know it's just me
pretending that there is.

a lie is when people look
at me and see
that i'm alive
but they don't know
how dead i am inside.
