Chapter 4
Jamie's POV
"Are you crazy? We could have been killed!" I exclaim, pressing Finn up against a wall. The terrified look in his eyes makes me menacingly smile up at him.
"You need to calm down now." my brother-in-law states, causing my grip to tighten on his shirt.
If my brother was here right now, he would tell me to let him go. Thankfully, I already sent him back to our apartment after the attack at Rousseau's.
"You almost got us killed. The wolves didn't just go after Davina. They attacked me too." I detail, showing him the blood on my neck. "And if it wasn't for your brother, I wouldn't be standing here."
"I'm aware. I gave the order." Esther nonchalantly tells me, crossing her arms against her chest. My grip on her son's shirt loosens, letting him escape over to his mother.
"The attack had to look convincing." She continues, as my glare hardens. Oh you have got to be kidding me.
"I have a concussion because of you. If it wasn't for Kol healing me, it would be much worse." I mutter, gesturing up to my head.
"You'll live." my mother-in-law states, rolling her eyes at me. "And more importantly, Davina will feel indebted to you and your brother. She will seek you out to apologize for what she perceives as an attack she caused...as I planned."
My glare hardens, as I feel my powers growing out of control. Even as a witch, I don't have the best self-control.
"Well, I've had enough of your plans. You stick me and my brother in these bodies. You force us to sneak around like some common toadies. And for what? So that after I help you change your children, we get to live as witches. My brother barely has control of his powers, and I have none. If this is the grand new life you have planned for us, you can have it back." I rant off, feeling the wind outside begin to pick up.
Before I can use my powers against my mother-in-law, she gives me an aneurysm on top of my concussion.
"You are here by my grace." Esther voices, as blood begins to pour from my nostrils. "And you will remain by my grace. Have I made myself clear?"
Nodding lightly, I grit out a positive response, causing my mother-in-law to release me. I shouldn't have taken her deal to bring me back. I'd rather be swimming in the depths of Tartarus than be tortured here by a psycho witch. Feeling guilty for what she did to me, Esther leans down and takes my face in her hands.
"Your brother-in-law was in the attic during the attack. Finn, tell her what you saw." she instructs her eldest son, who folds his hands.
"The door was open. The room was empty." Finn explains, lowering his head like the little lapdog he is. My mother-in-law directs her attention to me, standing back up on her feet.
"So how did Davina tear apart a pack of vicious wolves? She must have had this weapon with her." she questions me, as I finally catch my breath. "What was it? A dark object? A book of spells?"
Geesh, Esther! One question at a time, please. Gathering my composure, I slowly stand back up and lean up against the wall for stability.
"I wish I knew." I lie, gesturing towards my neck. "My brother was knocked out, and I was too busy dying to notice. We never saw a thing."
Let's hope she bought it. This frail witch body is already in enough pain.

"She did WHAT?"
Oh boy. Angry brother is not a good thing. At least he's not mad at me. His target's Esther this time.
After I returned back to our apartment, my brother rushed me inside and helped fix my never-ending headache. I told him about what Esther did, and here we are.
"I'm fine now, but we have to continue with our mission. Otherwise, Esther will kill us." I detail to the teenager, who scoffs at the idea.
"Kailie, you almost died tonight. Screw Esther. She can fall off a cliff for all I care." he states, crossing his arms against his chest.
"And if we don't complete the tasks she gave us, we're gonna die. I fought to get you here, Jeremy, and I don't want my efforts to be in vain." I mutter, standing up to face my now taller brother. Embracing him in a hug, I lean up and whisper to him.
"The faster we finish the better. You keep wooing Davina, and I'll keep Kol distracted."
