Chapter 53

October frowned as she pretended not to notice the way Olivia was staring at her from the same bed she was working on. She just unpacked her clothes from her traveling box as she listened to her Lauren Daigle playlist.

"I know you can feel my burning gaze." Olivia was grinning from ear to ear. October sighed and finally looked back at her.

"Finally, you said something. Stop staring at people like that. It's creepy. And aren't you supposed to be at work? Where's Peppy by the way?" The last one was a rhetorical question because neither she nor Olivia ever knew where Peppy was.

"Well, for your information, it's Sunday." Olivia rose an eyebrow.

"Well, what about Church?"

"It's ten a.m, my service has ended. For your information, you woke up late."

"Yeah, that's true. I was so tired last night when I got back." October shrugged.

"See as your skin tone has changed. I guess the Philippines did you good." Olivia playfully pushed her a little.

October laughed.
"It's just one week."

"For your- "

"Say it one more time and I'll spit in your mouth."

"So, what happened between you and dream man?" Olivia wiggled her eyebrows.

"Who? Damien? Nothing much." October turned back to her box and zipped it up after she had brought out the last piece of clothing.

"Well, in my dictionary, nothing much means that there is actually a little something." Olivia pouted.

October sat on the bed.
"I'm more worried about home."

"What home? Like, home home?" Olivia's smile faded.

"My dad called me." October said after a moment of hesitation. "He said I should come home."

"Did he say anything else?"

October shook her head.
"I'm confused and angry at once, confused that he called me after five whole years and angry that......he finally called me after five whole years. Why did he? I've moved on already."

"Maybe something happened over there?"

"I don't even know." October sighed.

"So are you going?" Olivia rose her eyebrows.

"I'm so not sure. Aaron wants me to."

"But what do you want to do?"

October bit her lip. "Maybe. I'm curious. I actually feel like something is wrong."

"You still have to give me details about your trip by the way."

"Sure. When I have the time though. For now, since I'm not ready to go back to that house, I have to plan the next big thing on my list." October paused. "Which is to storm into Aso's Elite tomorrow morning and demand for my salary." She continued before Olivia could ask.

"Babe, you have only worked for two weeks and a half. You took off a week for your reunion. Your month is not complete yet. Or you want to ask for an advance? You haven't completed your month yet. You're even lucky your boss is Damien, if not you would have received a pinch out of your salary if you were me. Just two and a half weeks after you got the job, you took a break."

"I- kind of quit."

Olivia's mouth dropped open. She patted her chest lightly like she was having a heartache because of the news October was breaking to her. If she had told October that she was really having one, she would have believed it.
"Why would you do that, you- piece of cow dung?"

"Damien and I had a misunderstanding."

Olivia rubbed her eyebrows like she was trying to process what she had just heard as slowly as possible.
"After taking a break? This isn't going to work well with your pay."

"For the record, I said it was for surgery."

"Without a medical report? The Damien I've heard about isn't a fool."

October opened her mouth to defend herself.
"Well," She shrugged. "He never asked for one so...." She paused when she noticed the look Olivia gave her. "You have a point there. I was supposed to go with a report as proof." October pursed her lips. "And the fact that he didn't object to my request but gave me a week break is suspicious."

"There you have it. He's treating you different. But I can't say the same about your salary yet though. But seriously, did you know that if you would have just worked for five months, you would have been a millionaire, just like that?"

"It's not that easy. I have expenses. If it was like that, everyone would have been millionaires by now if they saved their entire salary every month."

"Anyways, if anything is cut from your salary, the house bills won't pay themselves o." Olivia crossed her legs on the bed.

"You know," October folded her arms. "The moment I think you care, you just seem to disappoint me, always."

Olivia laughed.
"It is wharit is."

"Why are you always reminding me of the house rent? You can go and remind George and Michael upstairs to pay their own rent too, since you have become the collector for Mr Obiagu."

"Well, before you didn't have a job, and now you obviously don't have a job anymore." Olivia rolled her eyes. "What kind of misunderstanding made you quit in the first place?"

"I wanted to slap Jessica because of something she did, and he said if I did so, he would fire me."

Olivia's eyes widened.
"So....?"

"I slapped him, then her." October answered. Olivia shut her eyes and took a deep breath as if the information had created fresh air for her.

"Good, good." She patted October's shoulder. Her eyes opened immediately. "But it's a shame you had to slap him though. He's too fine to deserve it. But that Jessica on the other hand, she's a witch. She just wants to keep on perching close to him, even after he has nothing to do with her."

"What do you mean? They're dating."

"Nope." Olivia shook her head. "They broke up, right before he came back to Nigeria last month. I guess he couldn't handle her anymore." Olivia laughed.

October's eyes almost barged out of their sockets.
"What? Who told you this?"

"Who wouldn't know? Everyone concerned about rich men's kids knows this."

"Well, how come I didn't? And why didn't you tell me?"

"Heyyyy." Olivia clapped her hands thrice. "So I should have just told you like that?"

"Ummm, yeah, considering the fact that we had something to do with each other before."

"Am I a gossip?" Olivia asked and October gave her a look. They both knew the answer to that.

"But if they broke up, why did he bring her to the reunion?" October didn't realize she had said that out loud.

"He did?" Olivia picked up one of October's shirts that she had unpacked from the bed. She placed it on her body to see if it matched her skin color. "Like I said, she just wants to keep on perching close to him." She pulled it to her front and examined it again. "Or I could be wrong and it could be that he brought her there himself for something else." She pursed her lips. "I'm so taking this shirt." Plaid shirts were her favorite. October just nodded.

"Wow." October scoffed. "So was that the reason she tried to get rid of me? She thought I would go after him."

"I don't know what you mean by 'get rid of you', but if she's afraid that Damien would go for you, it probably means that he must have showed signs that he is interested in you. Either that or she's just paranoid."

October smiled.
"Well, she should get ready because her nightmare is about to come to pass."

"And by that you mean?"

"She almost got me killed because of what she holds dear, and thinks she can do anything since she has connections with powerful people and I can't prove she did it, I'm going to do what she fears- take away who she loves."

"To be honest, I feel like this is going to be one long emotional trip, but I love it." Olivia squealed.

"And on that note, since Damien wants me to come back to work for him and I haven't turned in my resignation letter, I'm going back to do just that."

Olivia smirked.
"I dare you."
