Chapter 68
"Sir." One of the security men called as he briskly walked into Damien's office.
Damien turned away from the open window to face him, his hands tucked in the pocket of his jeans.
"She just stepped into the building." The man informed him.
The corner of Damien's lips turned upwards. He nodded in acknowledgment.
"Tell Mary to let the press in now. I'm ready to see them."
Damien turned back to the window as the man left. So October refused his offer the day before?
He chuckled when he thought about what he was about to do.

October was glad she had convinced her guards to wait outside while she went into the hotel to clear her desk. Her father's rule was that she should make sure she carried her guards wherever she went– but her rule was that they were never to walk into some certain places with her.
This was it. She was no longer going to work for Damien.
Speaking of Damien, she had not heard from him since the previous day since she told him no. At least, today was his so called gala day and asking her again at this time would be useless.
She inserted her key into its hole and then turned it twice before turning the doorknob. She opened the door to her office and walked in– the same office she had worked in for barely three months. She took in a deep breath before she shut the door. Was she going to even miss this place?
In a span of days, her life had taken a turn for the better. Or was it for worse?
She hadn't figured that one out yet.
She took two steps further and then halted. That was weird; there was nothing on her desk. She was sure that the last time she was here, the desk was a mess. Apart from her, only Chinwe who worked with maintenance had her office key. Did Chizoba pack them into the drawers?
She walked to the desk and opened the drawers beneath it. There was nothing in there too except a designer bag– a bag she never had.
She took out her phone and dialled Chizoba's number.
"Hello?" Chizoba said the moment she picked up.
"Hey. Did- "
"Oh, good morning." Chizoba sounded alarmed, like she hadn't checked the caller before she picked.
"Good morning. Did you by any chance clear out my things from my office?"
"Your things?" There was a pause. "Oh, sorry. About that, the boss had instructed that I clear out your office."
"Which of the bosses?" October was taken aback.
"The CEO."
Of course it had to be Damien. Kennedy couldn't do it.
"So where are my things?" October enquired.
"That's the thing– I don't know." Chizoba continued.
"What?"
"He left a message though." Chizoba quickly added." He said that if you were to come today, I should tell you that there's something he left for you in place of all your things."
October suddenly turned back to the drawer. So the 'something' was the bag. She became so furious. She was not in the mood to play games.
"Is he around?" She asked Chizoba through gritted teeth. Chizoba sensed she was angry so she hesitated before she gave her the answer.

Chizoba sighed the moment October cut the call. She picked up her sweeping brush from the floor and took one last look at the car park now 'squeaky clean' as she would call it.
"Those two should just get married, let me rest." She said to herself and sniffed hard. Gosh, her back hurt.
"I never knew you were a matchmaker." She heard someone say. She immediately turned and exhaled in relief when she saw who it was. She had been so startled that she almost jumped. She had thought she was the only one there. Sure, other people would have driven in here but she wasn't expecting anyone to mind her.
"You." She pointed at Lawrence who comfortably sat on one of the cars there. "How long have you been here?"
"Long enough to hear your horrible singing."
"Haha." Chizoba rolled her eyes. "Look at a stool calling a couch small."
"I'm the couch right?" He rose an eyebrow.
"Are you worth up to a couch's standard?" She eyed him.
Lawrence was dumbfounded. Not in a long time had a girl talked to him rudely. It was quite the opposite even in school. She hadn't changed one bit. She was bound to leave an impression everytime he knew her. The first time was in primary school when she and her friends had waited for him in front of the male washroom after what he did to her and dealt with him. Now, she was the girl who was transferring to his school that proved to be his match.
"You know you're on someone's car right?" Chizoba said, more of a statement than a question.
Lawrence looked at where he was sitting. It was a white coloured Porsche in the midst of a line of Mercedes cars.
"Oh." He stood up slowly. "I wasn't aware."
She shook her head and started walking. He walked after her.
"Aren't you like a year younger than me?" He asked out of the blues.
"Your point being?" She said as they made for the elevator that led to the ground floor.
"Why are you subjecting yourself to such labour?"
He noticed the way she stopped walking as soon as he asked her the question.
Chizoba licked her lips and smiled faintly. Rich kids like him wouldn't get it. She turned to look at him.
She had always hated telling people that she was working here because of her mother. Since her mother spent half of her day either at her second job or with her brother who had cancer in the hospital, she couldn't just stay idle. Her brother needed money to be treated, and it didn't just fall from the sky. If Lawrence found out, he would look at her with pity like everyone else, and she hated pity.
She opened her mouth to say something and he waited for her to talk.
"I don't think why you have never seemed to mind your business, since primary school." She finally spoke.
Lawrence scoffed before something hit him.
"What did you just say?"
"I don't repeat myself to people like you." She folded her arms.
He tilted his head to the side a little before he grinned.
"Chibuzor, you crook."
She scrunched her eyebrows in confusion.
"Huh?"
"You remember."
It took her a while before she got what he was talking about. She almost face palmed herself. It was too late now. What was done was done.
"You made everyone believe that you lost your memory after primary school." Lawrence stared at her.
"And you all with your adolescent brains believed that." Chizoba said.
"Why?" Lawrence put his hands on his waist.
"It's not your business."
"Does Leslie know?"
He knew the answer himself when she didn't reply. "Even the person you claimed was your best friend back then doesn't even know."
"I have work to do, Sherlock." Chizoba said, trying to avoid further questions.
He was about to say something when...
"Young Master." They heard a man in a suit call. He appeared to be walking in their direction.
Lawrence clicked his tongue, still staring at Chizoba.
"Wrong timing Jacob."
The man approached them and stood beside Lawrence. He looked at Chizoba, then Lawrence.
"It's okay, she's a friend. Talk to me." He hadn't still turned to look at the man.
"It's your father." Jacob said. Lawrence looked at him immediately. "He wants to see you."
Lawrence put his hand into the pocket of his jacket and brought out car keys. He tossed it Jacob who caught it.
"Start the car."
"Yes, young master." Jacob replied as he quickly walked away.
"Young master?" Chizoba scoffed. "What are you– some rich kid of a Korean multimillionaire?"
Lawrence smirked.
"I could be that." He paused. "But no, I'm just Lawrence Obiakor." He said before a car drove towards them with Jacob in the driver's seat. Chizoba's mouth almost literally dropped open as she recognized the car.
It was the same white Porsche from before.
Lawrence's smile broadened when he noticed her expression.
"We still have a lot to talk about Chibuzor. Until next time." He took one last look at her before he walked to the car that had now stopped a few paces away from them.
Two things were on Chizoba's mind as she watched him leave. One– his family had to be filthy rich, and two– had he called her Chibuzor and not even once?

October was so angry as she waited in the elevator with the Birkin bag in her hand. What right did he have to take her things away? Was it his revenge for refusing to go to the gala with him? First, it was her diary which he still had in his possession, and now it was her things. Yes, she was going to give him a piece of her mind.
She stormed out as soon as the doors opened and marched towards his office. She didn't care how his P.A looked at her. Jane didn't even stop her as she pushed the double doors of his office open and barged in.
She forgot all her anger as soon as she did that, for all sixteen pairs of eyes stared at her now, Damien's included. She froze.
"She's carrying the Birkin bag." One of the journalists announced and the rest began to murmur.
"She's the one." Another one said.
Before October knew what was happening, they began to take photos of her rapidly.
