Why did I decide to go to a party?
This thought keeps running through my head as I enter the house and smell the alcohol and see girls wearing next to nothing dancing on the table.
"Time to party!" Sam yells and raises her hands in the air as she walks past me.
At times like this, I wonder how I'm friends with her. We are honestly so different, but at the same time, we still understand each other.
I see Sam walking into the kitchen probably getting herself a drink. Nick is still standing next to me and I know he's probably worried about me. After the last party and being cheated on I felt horrible. I was depressed for months. I felt like I wasn't enough good enough because the guy that I dated for about a year who told me he loved me, chose someone else. I avoided everyone in those months. When I finally realized he wasn't worth all the pain, I was finally me again. I never want to feel like that again which is why I put all my guards up. No boyfriends, no parties, no problems.
"Nick, I'm going to be fine." I reassured him and told him he could go drink and have a good time.
I started making my way to the snack table because, I mean, what else was I going to do at this party? I never say no to free food and just because I'm a dancer doesn't mean I always eat super healthy.
As I was reaching for some chips, I felt someone behind me.
I sigh, "Nick, I told you I'm fine-" as I turn around I'm met with a pair of piercing blue eyes.
It wasn't Nick.
"Glad you could make it Cassandra."
Cameron, just the guy I wanted to see. Honestly why can't he just leave me alone and go hang out with Amanda?
"Why are you talking to me Cameron?" I ask him. I start looking around behind him to see if Amanda was around. The last thing I need right now is Amanda yelling in my face.
"Why are you being so mean? I'm just trying to be nice." He starts walking closer to me and closing the space between us.
"Can you try to be nice somewhere else then?" I shove past him and start looking for my friends. I had enough of Cameron for one day and I don't need Amanda after me either.
I spot Sam's brown hair and sparkly purple dress in the living room. Unfortunately, she's sitting with her cheer squad. Before I could turn around and find Nick, Sam saw me and called me over.
"Cas! Come here and sit with us!" She pat the spot on the ground next to her.
Honestly, finding Nick might not be a good idea. Knowing him, he's probably drunk along with the rest of his football buddies. I sit down next to Sam and see Amanda with her minions sitting across from us in the circle that the cheer squad, some guys, and we have made. Suddenly, one of the guys in the circle stood up and announced that he was going to get some vodka for the game.
I turn to look at Sam and ask, "What game is he talking about?"
Probably sensing the panic in my eyes, Sam quickly replied, "Relax Cas, we just decided to play truth or dare."
Is she serious right now? Do these people know how old they are? We are going to graduate this year and almost the whole class is still acting like they are in elementary school.
The guy comes back with a bottle of vodka in his hand, interrupting my little panic session.
He sits back down and places the bottle in front of him. "Alright, here's the vodka. If you pass, you drink. Who's starting?"
"Cameron! Come here and sit with me! We're playing truth or dare!" I hear Amanda call out to Cameron who was a few feet away from us.
There's no way I'm playing truth or dare at a party, especially with Amanda. She's just going to embarrass me more and rub her relationship with Cameron in my face.
I get up just as Cameron sits down next to Amanda.
"I'm not going to play, I'll catch up with you later." As I tell Sam, I could see from the corner of my eye that Amanda was smiling and had an evil look in her eye.
"You aren't playing?" Amanda innocently asks me.
Cameron looks at me for the first time since he arrived at this little 'group'.
"Scared of a little game of truth or dare?" He asks me with that same stupid smirk on his face.
"No." I narrow my eyes at him and slowly sit back down. I'm perfectly capable of playing a small game of truth or dare. Once I'm as comfortable as someone can be sitting on the floor, I see a frown on Amanda's face.
Yeah that's right Amanda! I'm not scared of a little childish game. Well...maybe I am.
The game starts off well enough. Just your typical "I dare you to make out with her" or "Tell us your darkest secret", stuff like that. I was definitely getting a bit bored but I was still on edge since I haven't gone yet and knowing Amanda, I'm probably going to be her target.
It finally reached Lily, one of Amanda's minions, and I already knew what was going to happen.
"Amanda, truth or dare?"
Amanda looked at Lily with a smile on her face and replied back saying dare.
"I dare you to kiss Cameron."
Amanda glanced at me and with an evil look on her face and said, "Easy."
She brought her lips to Cameron's and I desperately wanted to look away, but I knew if I did, Amanda would win. So I sucked it up and pushed whatever feelings I had to the side and focused back on the game.
Once Amanda pulled away, I snuck a glance at Cameron to see how he reacted to the kiss that was more like a short makeout session. He ran his hand through his hair and whispered, "Damn."
Amanda laughed and leaned over to Cameron's ear and whispered something to him.
When she turned back to the group, she looked me dead in the eye and asked me, "Truth or dare?"
I've never been a dare kind of girl and I'm definitely not changing my ways tonight.
"Truth."
"Do you like Cameron?"
I was shocked. I'm sure my face got a few shades redder. If I wasn't driving tonight, I'd probably take a drink instead of answer but of course, Nick had to piss off Sam. I look down at my hands careful not to look at Amanda or Cameron and answered back nervously, "No. I don't like Cameron."
"Ouch Cassandra. That hurt a lot." I looked up at Cameron's sarcastic comment to see him also place his hand over his heart.
"I was positive you were checking me out earlier." He winked at me and that almost made me grab the bottle of vodka and smash it over his head. Luckily, Sam saved me from a possible murder charge by grabbing my hand and quietly telling me not to let them get to me. She ended up taking my turn for me by asking one of the guys that was in my english class.
After ten more minutes of random dares and stupid confessions, I hear some of the football guys behind me. I turn around and see Nick, with a can of beer, trying to sit down on the ground next to me. I laugh when he nearly tips over.
"How are you doing Nick?"
"M-mighty fine babe." He raises his can of beer to me and at this point, I can't stop laughing.
"Babe? Wow you must be quite drunk." I start reaching for his beer but he stops me by grabbing my hand.
"No..pe, you aren't touching my beer. Have I told you that you look really hot tonight?"
I blush when he called me hot and looked away from him and looked at his hand holding onto my wrist. "Well you didn't exactly use the word-" Before I could finish my sentence, I am interrupted by Cameron.
"Cassandra, truth or dare?" I am at this point, very annoyed with Cameron. However, when I look at him, I see that his whole expression has changed since I last payed attention at him. He looks almost angry.
I hesitantly replied back, "Uh...truth."
Why is he so angry?
"Are you and Mr. Football fucking?"
Did he seriously ask me if I'm sleeping with Nick? It's my turn to be mad now. "What?! How dare you ask me that?"
"You said truth so I asked you a question. That's how the game works, and right now, I don't hear a no."
Right now we are both yelling at each other and I am slightly aware that some people around the group started looking at us.
"NO! Nick and I are just friends!" As I stand up, both Sam and Nick get up as well.
"I'm sure you are." He grabs the bottle of vodka and starts drinking from it.
Nick begins to walk towards Cameron but I hold him back. This is my battle with Cameron and besides, Nick is too drunk to do anything smart.
"What's your problem dude?" Nick yells at Cameron while dropping his beer on the floor as he tries to stumble past me.
I see Cameron get up as Sam and I try to push Nick back away from him.
"Well right now, you're my problem." Cameron points at Nick with fury in his eyes.
Nick looks at me and tries to move me aside. "Cassy, move out of my way."
I start to get really nervous because I definitely do not want Cameron and Nick fighting especially with alcohol in their system. "Nick, no. Leave him. Please, let's go." I grab his hand and make him look at me instead of Cameron.
Nick listens to me, which was a miracle, and Sam and I help him out of the house. I don't want to be near Cameron anytime soon, but unfortunately, he's in most of my classes so I don't have a choice. This night has turned into a disaster and it's only nine o'clock. I'm guessing the party is going to go all night which means most of the seniors won't be showing up tomorrow at school. I'm hoping Cameron stays home for the rest of the week. Or better yet, for the rest of his life.
When we reach Sam's car, my phone starts ringing and I see that it's my sister calling me.
I place the phone next to my ear to see what my sister wanted. "Yes Desiree?"
"I saw you leaving the house. Why are you leaving so early? We don't need to be back home until eleven." I bring the phone away from my ear because of how loud my sister is yelling through the phone.
"Des! Stop yelling! It's a long story and don't worry I'll cover for you if you come home late. Just don't do anything crazy." I know my sister is probably worried about our mom catching her sneak in late. Like I said before, she is the one with the better social life.
After I hang up, I see that Sam has managed to put Nick in the backseat by herself. He is now passed out in the back of the car so I get in the driver seat and start the car.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Sam asks me as I start driving away from the house where the party was at.
"Not really. You know, it's all your fault we were in that mess. You dragged me into that group to play truth or dare." I jokingly tease her.
"Hey! You didn't have to play. It's not my fault Cameron got jealous." She starts defending herself.
I roll my eyes, "He was not jealous, he was being a pain in the ass."
"You keep telling yourself that Cassy. What I saw tonight was jealousy."
I shake my head. Sam is wrong. Why would Cameron be jealous? He has Amanda already so what is bothering him?
