- Dancing Heart -
"That movie was really good!" Nick exclaimed as the three of us walked out of the movie theater.
I roll my eyes. "If by good you mean horrible, then yes, I agree."
"The only reason you didn't like it was because you thought it was scary." He playful bumps my shoulder.
"I'm gonna have to agree with Nick on this one." Sam says giving Nick a high-five.
"Whatever." I mumble as I throw our empty popcorn bags into the trash.
"Well next time, I'm not getting the popcorn because the one time I actually offer to get it for us, I miss something important." Sam complains as the three of us started walking into the parking lot.
I give her a confused look. "You didn't miss anything important."
"Uh yeah I did! I come back and bam, I see Cameron with Amanda right in front of you and Nick. I would say that's pretty important."
"What's the big deal it's just Cameron and Amanda?"
An hour into the movie, both of them left the theatre. Amanda was basically begging Cameron to leave. She said she was bored but deep down, she was probably terrified like me. She may have a tough exterior, but everyone has their fears.
"Douchebag," Nick coughs and mutters under his breath.
Sam gives Nick a look and answers, "Come on Cas! He's your Prince Charming! It's like what we talked about earlier today except you know, Amanda is in the way of things."
"Seriously Cassy? You like that idiot?" Nick asks me with a hint of disappointment in his eyes.
"No! I don't like him and I never will!" I sigh, Sam is never going to let this go.
"Alright then." Sam says as she unlocks her car. "Just don't come to me when you need advice on what to wear on your first date!" She quickly gets into the driver seat and locks the car knowing full well that I was going to attack her.
I knock on the door and yell, "Sam, unlock the door right now!"
She shakes her head and replies back, "No can do. This is my car and I don't want to be driving a crazy person who is clearly mad and ready to kill."
Nick starts laughing and I turn my head sharply around to face him and gave him an evil look. He got the message and stayed quiet.
"I'm not mad at you." I say as calmly as possible to my best friend sitting in the car with a stupid grin on her face.
"Sorry! I can't take any chances." Sam pulled out of the parking spot and drove away leaving Nick and I standing in her dust.
Nick bursts out laughing, "I can't believe she actually left you."
"Really Nick? Now is definitely not the time to make me even more mad."
"You're being dramatic! Relax, I'll drop you home." He starts walking to his truck and I follow close behind.
As we're driving back to my house, Nick and I got some time to catch up. After not seeing him all summer, we haven't really gotten the chance to talk much. He told me about all the places they went to see while they were in Hawaii. Talking with Nick makes me sad that we don't get the chance to hang out with each other as often as we use to. With his busy football schedule, my dance schedule, and how often he hangs out with the guys on his team, it's normally just Sam and I. Nick and I use to be inseparable as kids. He was always there for me during my rough days as well as the good ones. Then as we both grew up, we both found our passion making us both busy.
"And here we are." Nick says as he pulls in my driveway.
"Thanks for the ride." I tell him as I get out of his truck.
"One more thing," Nick gently grabs a hold of my hand as he stops me from leaving.
He looks down at our intertwined hands and breathes out, "Cas, about what Sam said earlier. You're better than that idiot. You deserve someone a lot better."
It's sweet that he cares so much about me. However, he has nothing to worry about. Cameron is not on my radar.
I give him a small smile and hug him. "Thanks Nick. Don't worry, I'm not falling for him. He's not my Prince Charming."
//
"Alright girls, see you next week!" I smiled as I open the door for the little ballerinas.
Another successful class. Once all the girls left, I turn to Katie and ask her if her mom is picking her up like last time.
"No, she's busy today. I think my brother might be picking me up." She responded as she smoothed out her little pink tutu.
"Alright! I'll just start packing up my stuff."
I walked over to the table in the corner of the room and started putting my stuff back into my bag when I suddenly heard Katie excitedly yell, "Cameron!"
Did she just say Cameron? It can't be the same Cameron. I slowly turn around only to be faced with the very same Cameron hugging Katie. It's official I can't escape the devil.
When he finally lets go of Katie, he notices me and a surprised look crosses his face. Before either of us could speak, Katie introduces me to him.
"Cameron, this is Miss. Cassy. She's my favourite dance teacher!" She explained to her brother who was recovering from the surprise.
I smile at Katie, knowing that I was her only dance teacher but it was still a very nice compliment.
"Well it's nice to meet you...Cassy." He smirks as he says my nickname.
I fake a smile and mutter out as nicely as I can, "It's nice to meet you too."
"I'm going to get my shoes from the change room and then we can go!" Katie yelled back to us as she runs to get her shoes.
Kill. Me. Now. I hope it doesn't take her long to get her shoes on.
Cameron turns to me and takes a step closer to me. "Are you stalking me Cassy?"
Is he serious right now?
"Stalking you? You wish." I take a step away from him. "And don't call me Cassy," I corrected him as I grab my bag off the table.
"Why not?" He questioned as he again, walked closer to me.
Has he never heard of personal space?
"Only people I can actually tolerate call me that."
Katie walks back into the room with her shoes on and goes over to hug Cameron. I would have thought it was a cute interaction if I didn't hate Cameron so much.
"Cameron, can we go get ice cream? Please?" She begs her brother while continuing to crush him with her tight hug.
He looks down at Katie who is latched onto his leg. "Okay, but only if Miss Cassy joins us as well." He looks up and smiles innocently at me.
No way am I having ice cream with him! I give him again, a fake smile and respond, "Thanks but I wouldn't want to interrupt your sibling time."
"Please Miss Cassy? It will be so fun. We go to this ice cream shop that has the best ice cream and I'll make sure my brother pays for it!" She tells me excitedly.
I can't say no now. I hate disappointing people, especially adorable kids. I mean the free ice cream won't hurt either.
I laugh and bend down to speak to Katie, "Well I can't say no to my amazing student."
"Yay! Let's go!" She rushes to the exit with Cameron and I walking behind her.
I shoot Cameron a glare and whisper to him so that Katie would not be able to hear.
"I'm only doing this for your sister."
"So am I. Now I have to pay for your ice cream as well." He whispers back.
I roll my eyes. He was the one who brought up inviting me in the first place. I take out the studio keys from my bag and lock up.
As Cameron pulls out of the parking lot, I take my phone out and quickly send a text to Sam.
Change of plans, I'm going to be at your house an hour later - C

You've got a lot of explaining to do when I see you - S
Cameron glances over at me and asks, "Who are you texting?"
I put my phone away and answer him. "One, it's none of your business. Two, keep your eyes on the road. I barely trust your driving skills already so you having your eyes somewhere else worries me even more, and three, it's not Nick if that's what you're wondering."
He hesitates briefly and says, "No, I didn't think it was Nick. Why would you think that?"
Yeah right.
"You've had a weird obsession with him since the party."
He looks over at me again and before I could yell at him to focus on the road, he smiles and says, "Whatever and besides, my driving is excellent! Isn't that right Katie?"
Katie shakes her head.
"It's pretty clear that I'm right. From now on, no more talking. You need to focus on driving. I'm way too young to die now." I joke, as I take my hair out from it's place in a bun on top of my head.
"Relax, my sister was just kidding no one is going to-"
"I'm not taking any chances!" I cut him off as he tries to defend his driving skills.
I'm always going to be extra careful when I'm around him, whether he's driving or simply just standing next to me. I will definitely not be taking any chances when it comes to him.
