Darling

"I love you," was all I needed to hear before I entered into my own little dream world. As time faded to a stop around me, I had the time to remember what happened in the last twelve hours.

I remember that I was standing on the side of the path, stretching as I caught my breath. That early morning I had forgotten my water bottle at home, but I was too ambitious and decided to carry on running without it. He was walking on the path by when he saved me from thirst, and it was probably in the dorkiest way possible.

He was carrying a book bag on his back when he walked by, stopping when he heard me panting like a dog in heat- which was the perfect way to describe me at the moment. I still remember the smile he flashed at me, trying to seem friendly. "Hi there, darling," he chuckled to himself, "need a drink?"

I had moved from my stretching pose to an upright, standing position. "I am pretty sure that line only works at the bar," I had rolled my eyes at him, trying to lead him off of me before he lent out a sealed bottle of spring water. I almost felt bad for making fun of him, because he was making the most courtly manner I have seen in Margery Park. He raised an eyebrow me as I hesitated to take it, shaking the bottle lightly to break me from the trance of my own worries.

Taking the bottle from his hands, I thanked him as i twisted the cap off for a sip. "I always carry an extra for emergencies like this," he had smiled at me, nodding once as I continued to sip from the bottle as he talked. "Have a lovely evening, darling!" and that was the last I was supposed to ever see him. I had not even bothered to take a look at his features for memorization, yet I had taken his spare bottle of water and continued my stretches and jog like nothing had happened.

Time sped back into motion as I stared at the man in front of me, grinning like the fool I was. "I love you too," I replied, breathless as he leaned down to kiss me to slow back time around me all over again, allowing me to remember what happened in the last six hours leading up to this kiss.

I remember standing in line at my local grocery store, holding three cans, a loaf of bread, half gallon of milk and a package of cookies in my arms instead of in a basket like a normal customer. I had just came in for the milk and bread, but I always tended to wander the isles for twice the time I first intended. When it was finally my turn to put my items on the conveyer belt, I had dropped my package of soft, chocolate chip cookies onto the floor.

I first put the remainder of my items on the belt before crouching down to pick up my cookies, noticing they had magically vanished from the floor. I frowned and stood back up to see the man behind me was putting the cookies onto the belt for me. "There you go, darling. I recommend a basket next time," he gave me a smile before returning behind his shopping cart. "And I also recommend the peanut butter cup cookies instead, they are way better."

I had smiled at him for his courtly ship and charm. "I'll remember that for the next time I come shopping for quick groceries. The chocolate chip cookies are superior to the peanut butter ones though, just saying," My response earned a smile from the man before my attention was stolen away by the cashier. After I paid for my groceries, I looked back at the man behind me and smiled once last time before I left in a hurry to get home. I was in such a rush, I had not even looked at the man's features closely for I was too focused on my cookies.

Time sped back into motion as the man in front of me pressed him lips against mine, allowing me to share in his passionate kiss of love. He reached down and grabbed my hand gently, entwining his fingers with mine. Time sped back down as I took in his kiss, looking back at what had happened in the last two hours.

I remember sitting on my couch, watching tv as I enjoyed the rest of my weekend. In the middle of my Saturday cartoons, my doorbell had rung. I swiftly went to my front door, opening it to reveal the post man, holding a fairly small package in his hands along side a clip board. "Afternoon, darling," the postman had smiled as he handed me the clipboard. "I have a package for Rachel Erwin," I nodded to confirm that was me. "Please sign on the dotted line," he handed me the clipboard with a pen.

I signed quickly, trading with the postman the clipboard for my new package. "Thank you, sir," I smiled, "have a good day! Thank you!" he nodded to me and walked off, leaving me to close the door and go back to my tv show and my package.

Time sped back up and I was breaking the kiss to look up at my husband. His eyes were a deep chestnut, drawing me in to the warmth of his embrace. His hair jet black, combed back for his usual professional look for work and for me to mess with when he came home everyday. His lips were a soft pink yet a bit chapped, and his nose perfectly bridged. I loved him so much, and I swear I could gaze at him for hours if ever given the chance.

"Welcome home, darling," I said to him, leaning up to kiss his cheek as his smile grew across his face. I had met many men today, but I already couldn't remember what any of them looked like as I gazed into the eyes of the man I had been married to for three years already. I led him back to the couch where i was watching tv when he came home. On the coffee table was the package I had received 2 hours before. It was my three year anniversary and Mr. Erwin had sent me chocolate chip cookies from work, just to make it up for having to work on such an important day.

I sat on the couch, grabbing one of the cookies from the box before I lent it out to him. "I bought an entire package this afternoon, you know," I giggled before I leaned back in to kiss the man of my dreams.
